General Discussion / Re: Is someone else using my ICAO Hex code?
« on: September 10, 2021, 10:09:22 am »
Thanks Peter
I thought that would be the case and quite right too!
I read all this stuff to keep abreast of all that is happening with PAW. I'm of an analog age so every little helps.

I haven't seen the hex code search page before.
Is this accessible to all or is it just for the developers?
I see it needs a sign-in.

Technical Support / Re: Track File Missing
« on: August 24, 2021, 06:09:27 pm »
I have had this a few times.
It is usually the return flight that is missing.
Today no record of the return. The PAW appeared to be working perfectly. Ground stations and traffic all appearing on screen.
Samsung tablet using PAW gps and android phone using its own gps both screens were the same and all good.

Technical Support / Re: Wiring into Trig TT21 - is it worth it?
« on: November 25, 2020, 05:58:14 pm »
I agree with Paul. It certainly is worth it.
It's cheap and simple to do.
There will be other traffic out there not PAW equipped but with ADS-B in on another system so they will see you.
You don't need another antenna. You must have misread something.
Good luck.

Technical Support / Re: P3I box on homepage

Thanks Lee.
At first I thought I had a problem, but as always the system works beautifully and all targets show up.

Technical Support / P3I box on homepage
« on: October 07, 2020, 06:08:19 pm »
I have noticed that the P3I box on the homepage now gives percentages UP and DN [very small numbers] as opposed to numbers of transmissions and signals received.
I can't find this change in the op manual.
It happens on both my PAWs and is on other people's downloads on this forum.
Can you explain what these percentages mean?
Regards
Bob

Technical Support / Re: Add External LED's

Why not look at the home page on 192.168.1.1.
If you have four greens it's working. No wires required!
[I assume you have a phone or tablet]

 Why make everything so complicated?
If its not working you won't have a position on your Skydemon or whatever you are using.
Mine turns on with the master switch. End of story.
The kit has worked unfailingly for years. Stop worrying and get on with life!

I have been using one of these for a couple of years:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/HitCar-Converter-Charger-Inverter-Camcoder-Micro-USB-Right-Angle-3Meters/dp/B071XLLKNF

It is wired to a CB and has a right angle micro USB to the PAW.
I bench tested it for a day or two with my unit and no issues.
I have had no problems and I don't get any radio noise.

All I can say is that it works for me!

Technical Support / Re: Feature request: Pause traffic audio

A simple in-line switch on the audio cable would be better than fiddling about with programming your tablet/phone when you are already getting an overload of information!
I would cost max £1.50 - not £49.99!
If you can't remember to turn it back on again you certainly won't remember to turn any other system back on either.
Remember..... KISS.

Keith
I've just read your explanation of the new stuff coming out.
I dread to think how much time and checking it took you all to do this.
All those moaning minnies constantly demeaning [in another place] what you were doing must have been dispiriting.
I think we all [with some exceptions!] understand the limitations of any kit we use, but what you all have done is a great step forward.
I raise my hat.

For a lightweight option there's this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/HitCar-Converter-Charger-Inverter-Recorder-Micro-USB-Left-Angle-3Meters/dp/B071KPF75F?psc=1&SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYY

All I can say is that I have used this [hardwired to a CB] for nearly two years without any problems or interference. You can choose the angle of the micro USB to suit your setup.
I ran it for several days in my workshop before installing it and had no dropouts.

Good luck.

Technical Support / Re: PilotAware Rosetta- Trig TT21- Wiring Loom
« on: April 30, 2019, 08:47:40 pm »
The trig TT21 wiring harness does NOT have a USB connection. It only connects from the remote mounted transponder to the panel mounted controller.
Two separate wires on this harness are labelled GPS position in and GPS ground. These are the wires that you need to connect to your Rosetta.
You will need one of these:
USB-RS232-WE-1800-BT-0.0 from Farnell.
Connect the orange wire to GPS IN  and the black wire to GPS ground. [the other wires are not used.]
Plug the USB end into your Rosetta spare USB socket and then configure that socket on the PAW to TRIG - Please READ the PAW manual on how to do this.
The TRIG TT21 will also need to be configured - yet another manual for you to read.
It will work.
I know!

All this information is here on these pages [ad infinitum].
It would really save you a lot of angst if you did a bit of research on what you were buying.
A lifetime in aviation has taught me RTFM.
I do appreciate you need to ask so please take this in good heart. You will succeed!
Cheers

Thanks Lee

It did seem to be a bit broad in it's frequency range.

It would be great if we could just buy the new rigid external antenna on its own. I have the original, ground plane required, wobbly Ae and it rather offends me!

I have a classic system [with RP3]  pretty much built in and, like many of us, I have no need of all the upgrade bits for Rosetta.

I had enough bits left over from the original [after the tinkering add-ons!] to make a ground station for the price of a bridge.

If you offered the PAW antenna separately on the website just to see the take-up maybe it would make financial sense. [I could say the same for the 1090 Ae]

There are quite a lot of us very satisfied, but desperate to fiddle, out there who might be interested!

Cheers

Bob

Has anyone used the Pulse Larsen antenna that Paul S refers to above?
It's a tidy solution at a reasonable price, but does it perform?

Bob
