Most tablets and phones don't have WAAS/EGNOS capable receivers built in.

Technical Support / Re: TAF/METARs in Skydemon using ATOM

I like the weather option - on a number of occasions I've called up London Information to get weather information on airfields, particularly when on a flight the "long way" across the English Channel. Having some OGN-R stations along the south coast with some large yagi antennas pointing out over the sea would be great!

I don't see anyone giving away anything to anyone else. As far as I understand it, Sky Demon will take weather inputs on the GDL90 messages. There are two things Sky Demon could do - add proprietary messages to the Flarm format in conjunction with PilotAware for the weather messages, or add proprietary bearingless traffic messages to GDL90 also in conjunction with PilotAware. This doesn't give anything to the SE2 owners. SE2 can pick up the UAT 978 transmissions which can also supply weather, and which are then communicated to Sky Demon over GDL90.

The purpose of the original message I believe was to gauge the response for Lee to code the PAW to transmit the received TAFs and METARs into GDL90 so if you select that, Sky Demon will automatically pick these up.

Back in the day when we trialled UAT 978 reception on PilotAware, the FIS-B weather data was able to be sent from the PilotAware to Sky Demon over GDL90.

Technical Support / Re: Clicking Sound in Headset

Sometimes the clicking caused by RF breakthrough from the PAW antenna into the audio system, can be intermittent depending on head position, etc, especially with ANR headsets which can be particularly susceptible to RF.

It's not one of the CPT ones is it? They're known to be a bit dodgy.

Any luck since?

No experience of this, sorry, but just want to say that Sky Demon on my Android tablet can be heard ok in my Bose headset on Bluetooth.

I know it doesn't help!  :D

I had similar with one of my Wifi dongles. A new dongle fixed it.

If it's out in the clear, a quarter wave groundplane or half wave dipole will get you a pretty good signal. Or you could make a coaxial colinear in a bit of plastic pipe. I made one, works well!

What's the reason you particularly want to get rid of one antenna? The ADS-B antenna can be fairly unobtrusive, just a quarter wave ground plane or a half wave dipole (maybe end fed like on the PAW) would work ok given that it's out in the clear. A colinear ADS-B antenna might extend the receive range from 150 miles to 200 miles, but I don't think the object is to get that sort of range!

Well enough to know that he's refused to do (1) in the past!  :o ;D

The question was more about the 3B and 3B+ than the 2B and 3B+.  :)

I'm sure Lee will be along to give his opinion. Personally I've never tried the 3B+ so can't offer an opinion, sorry!

I used the config script and mine wasn't retained!  :o

I'll go over it again when I have a bit of time and see what's what.

Right, just had a look. I think a recent update overwrote my /etc/dhcpcd.conf file which stopped Wifi from working.

I've just set it back.

An update? Argh, that'll be why I've lost contact with my OGN-R station again....rebuild time again...

Right, been playing around tonight. When I updated the software, it overwrote my WLAN configuration again. It did this as I had two WLANs in the /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf file, and it only took the one - the wrong one for my current router!

Having set it all up again, I didn't have to edit the /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf file as the configuration script now does that for you and you enter it as part of the initial configuration. However, I still wanted my static IP address, which the re-install overwrote. I changed my /etc/dhcpcd.conf (/etc_org/dhcpcd.conf) file but it still didn't play ball. I had to go back and edit the /etc/network/interfaces (/etc_org/network/interfaces) file and change

iface wlan0 inet dhcp

to

iface wlan0 inet manual

Phew.
