General Discussion / PAW and Firefox browser
« on: July 24, 2023, 10:39:25 am »
Hi All,

I have just spoken to Ashley at PAW who has not heard of the issue, so wondered if anyone has a fix. PAW is linked to Sky Demon on a iPad Mini 4 and I also have Firefox on the tablet. If I'm using SD for navigation and then switch to the browser on 192.168.1.1 to check out METAR, radar view etc. when I go back to SD, it says connection lost. It then re-connects but interrupts the recorded data such as the recorded track of the trip etc.
The iPad has the SD app in the background when switching.

Any ideas please - -Thanks in advance - Chris

General Discussion / Re: New Pilot Aware upgrade (Bearingless targets)
« on: January 11, 2022, 03:32:43 pm »
Excellent answer - Thank you Peter ..........

Chris,

You need to enable ‘Show Bearingless Targets’ in SkyDemon if you want to see the visual alerts on SD for Bearingless targets - which comprise a coloured warning circle (indicating relative degree of risk) together with an indication of the relative altitude of the aircraft concerned. You then need to carry out a visual scan to look for the aircraft, especially if it is close to your own altitude and showing Amber or Red.

SD will also display the aircraft’s registration if you have this setting set to ‘On’ in SkyDemon/Settings/Navigation.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Peter

General Discussion / New Pilot Aware upgrade (Bearingless targets)
« on: January 11, 2022, 07:47:10 am »
Hi All
A quick question please?
With the new update from Pilot Aware using the Atom Grid for bearingless targets, how does that relate to the integration with Sky Demon regarding the on screen display, verbal warnings etc.
Also, in the setting on Sky Demon - NAVIGATION OPTIONS > OTHER TRAFFIC > SHOW BEARINGLESS TARGETS ........ Does this have to be turned on now, after the PAW update please?

Thanks in advance

Chris

Technical Support / Bluetooth Volume
« on: December 22, 2020, 03:16:12 pm »
Hi All

I have been messing with a Bluetooth receiver into the wired headphone connections of the Eurostar and if I use the iPad - works perfectly ans volume can be adjusted using the iPad volume buttons, but disconnect that, reboot etc, and then try to use PAW's Bluetooth to the receiver, it works fine, but very loud and no matter what volume option is selected in the configuration menu (0-9 select an option, and save) it remains loud .... even selecting maybe 1 or 2 ....... but using a cheap earphones plugged into PAW it does adjust - any ideas how to overcome thins please?

Technical Support / Re: Audio output from PAW and iPad
« on: December 09, 2020, 11:19:58 pm »
Hi Peter

Thanks for the detailed reply, I will phone Lynx and see what they say re: audio input ..... I have a Eurostar the headsets plug into the dash with a circular 7 pin connection, so I am not sure what is under the dashboard !!

If the PAW and Ipad have bluetooth and this type of earpiece will connect with 2 devices - do you think that would work as I am not that tech savvy !!

Technical Support / Audio output from PAW and iPad

Hi All - I have got Lynx Avionics headsets and set up, and just got Pilot Aware - Any ideas how to use an audio output from iPad AND Pilot Aware, so I can listen to the Pilot Aware and iPad using something in the ear UNDER the aircraft headset as there is no input into the headsets ??  -  Not sure if PAW has a Bluetooth output  and a Bluetooth ear piece paired with I pad and PAW would work I guess  ????? Thanks in advance

Technical Support / Re: Wiring into Trig TT21 - is it worth it?

Hi Peter

Thanks for that - I have got a little Eurostar .......

Chris

Hi Altomar,

You don’t say what type of aircraft you fly. The external antennas are of significant benefit if the aircraft is metal-bodied as they get the signal out in the clear away from potential obscuration.

I have also been using them under the pod of my flexwing (with a thin laminated aluminium foil ground plane inside the pod) for some time now to very good effect - especially the 869.5 MHz P3i one. If using both, be careful to keep the shorter 1090MHz one as far away from your transponder antenna as practicable to avoid potential interference (not so easy in a flexwing).

I also echo the others’ comments re connecting to your transponder. It’s a fairly simple and inexpensive job, using a single USB to RS232 Serial Adapter Cable (obtainable from RS Components or Farnell for under £30), and ensures that you will comply fully with the CAA recommendation that we all ‘transmit ADSB on 1090MHz’, so is in my opinion a ‘no-brainer’. If you need any help or advice, feel free to ask - I have done several.

Regards

Peter

This is available on the PAW website, hence my comment about external antennas :- https://www.pilotaware.com/product/aviation-grade-external-antennas

I agree with Paul. It certainly is worth it.
It's cheap and simple to do.
There will be other traffic out there not PAW equipped but with ADS-B in on another system so they will see you.
You don't need another antenna. You must have misread something.
Good luck.
Bob

 Hi All

I have got the carry PAW and have read about fitting external antennas for ADBS out - I fly in Devon mostly so not so much traffic but do go on day trips - Question - is it worth wiring in to the Trig TT21 please

Thanks Peter (Exfirepro - I was an exparamedicpro  ;D) - I think half the trouble is that manuals and websites are written by people who have developed the product and have an in depth knowledge of how, why and where things work and 'forget' the average person undoing the box does not understand the technical terms and lingo used to describe things. as in your reply - I have spent ages trying to find the answer from Youtube, FAQ's and the manual, but you simple line " if you set the Vertical Separation to +/- 500ft, you will only be warned about Mode C or Mode S aircraft when they get to within 500ft above or below your current level" explained it in a way a 'layman' could understand.

In simple terms please, would somebody be kind enough to explain this setting as I am not sure what 'vertical separation' actually means?

The selections are +/-500 feet, +/-1000, +/-2000 etc.

"The first option Mode S/C +Filter should be selected if you have a working transponder on your aircraft irrespective of whether it is connected to the PAW.  This is to filter out your own Transponder signals." - Explains it exatly - thanks for the replies chaps. I was talking to somebody who was explaining how PAW is wired into the transponder, and I had it in my head as that is what it meant ....... you chose one of those options only if its hard wired .........

Thanks again

Chris
