General Discussion / Bluetooth Adapters - Experiences/Recommendations
« on: October 06, 2021, 07:14:26 pm »
Hi

Request
I was wondering whether anyone has been using a bluetooth adapter to pipe audio alerts to their headset, if so:
(1) which adapter do you use
(2) what are your experiences
(3) do you recommend the device?

I am aware of two adapters, there may be others:
https://www.ukppg.com/apps/webstore/products/show/1464783 @ £168
https://www.sportys.com/faro-stealth-audio-link.html @ $145 plus shipping & tax

If these questions have already been covered in another thread please send me the link.

Background

  • our aircraft group already has PAW fitted
  • our avionics engineer informs us that there are no available ports left to hardwire a connection into our radio system
  • group members use a variety of personal devices for navigation, some of which are bluetooth enabled, some of which are not e.g. skydemon+iPAD
  • group members use a variety of headsets, some of which are bluetooth enabled, some of which are not
  • group members have differing views on audio alerts, some find then useful, some find them distracting, some will want them enroute but will wish to silence in a busy circuit
  • we need to cater for these different permutations
  • some will wish to pickup bluetooth directly from PAW, others from their tablet/iPAD/iPhone
  • volume control will be required as individual pilots will wish to turn up or turn off according to personal preference
  • we would like to avoid individuals fiddling around unnecessarily with PAW setup/configuration options

Thanking you in advance!

Technical Support / Audio problems with Bose X Headset
« on: November 11, 2019, 09:29:46 am »
Hi,

I used my new PAW for the first time yesterday in the aircraft. No problems with the visual display of traffic but did encountered problems with the audio. Specifically volume was attenuated and barely discernible whenever the PAW audio lead was plugged in. Both normal RT as well as PAW voice were adversely affected.

Any help would be appreciated please?

Equipment:
(1) Bose X noise cancelling headset, plugged into the aircraft panel via
(2) 1/4" 6.35mm Stereo Plug / Male to Dual 1/4" 6.35mm Jack /Female Splitter Adapter Cable Converter 0.6 feet (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MS0KRA4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

PAW connected into (2) via:
(3) kenable 008904 Audio Cable 1 m 3.5 mm 6.35 mm Black - Audio Cables (3.5 mm, Male, 6.35 mm, Male, 1 m, Black (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06XXQ3CD3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

And also tried PAW connected into (2) via:
(4) Neoteck Headphone Amplifier Portable 3.5mm Audio Rechargeble HiFi Earphone Headphone Amplifier with Lithium Battery and Aluminum Matte Surface(https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07G953GHH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

PAW and Neoteck both powered by one of these:
Anker PowerCore 13000 Power Bank - Compact 13000mAh

Setup: tried by turning up volumes on all devices to the maximum. This included:
(1) PAW - Volume  set to 10 (Options>Configuration)
(2) Headset - volume at max
(3) Aircraft Audio panel at max (Garmin 340 & GNC 255)
(4) Neoteck at max (when it was included in the audio routing).

When I replaced the Bose X with a very old set of passive Dave Clarks the audio seemed to be OK.

I'm guessing that this might be an impedance matching problem between PAW and the Bose X's??? Any suggestions for overcoming the problem?

Thanks in advance for your help.
