I would not be surprised if FlySto is getting mode s traffic also, as the near miss I had two years ago was with an old PA28-140 and I’d be surprised if it was sporting ADSB. I have the reg and details from FlySto as all I uploaded was my old SkyDemon .kml file to check on the close encounter.

Hi BobD

in SkyDemon find the log file you want and open it.
Now choose 'Explore in Google Earth'
this gives you the option to save the file, so save it
this is a .kml file
Now all you have to do is upload it to FlySto

Please note my FlySto recommendation - see another post. I have not made a traffic comparison with PilotAware but FlySto has a lot, maybe all mode-s, and has the novel advantage of a view of the traffic through the windshield, plus the terrain also and even has the ‘sun’ position if appropriate based on time of day of the flight.

I remember a near miss i had on a 'base leg' a couple of years ago. I used SkyDemon to produce a .kml file of the flight and uploaded that to Flysto and to my amazement all the traffic info with a/c registrations and positions are there to see. I could send this file to ATC at the airport to show them that they might have done a better job that day. Me too of course.

Sort of creepy to think of all this data stored away on the net somewhere.

Seems to take a couple of days to populate the traffic after you have uploaded the kml file

Has anybody tried this? It's free.

The way i have been using this is to use FlightAware to get a kml file, then save to your computer. Then go to flysto.net and upload the kml file. Then i suggest you use the cockpit view to see the terrain you flew over, sunlight corrected for time of flight AND see TRAFFIC you encountered!!!!

You don't need pilotaware track data.

You will be amazed.

Hi, this item appears in your Gotchas

. Check that your phone does not time out, as configured in your preferences.

Can you explain where this timeout is on an iphone 13 ?

Thanks

Technical Support / Re: iGrid no longer “going green”

i am having problems also, but it does not seem to be connected with the latest update as i have noticed the problem before.

The problem is this, I have my mobile iphone 13 set up with mobile hotspot but when GSM stays red i eventually look at the relevant PAW page and i find my Rosetta has found half a dozen wifi hotspots and wants to join to anything but my iphone. Then i force it to link to my iphone hotspot (albeit i have done that at the initial setup time when i bought the wifi module and gave it my phone's password) which then gets the GSM orange and green indications to show.

Am i doing something wrong or should the software be fixed to stop linking up to to any tom dick and harry wifi and just look out for mine

Some help please because as a pilot i don't want extra hassle.

I emailed James a week or so ago but received no reply. James is probably really busy and I am very grateful for all his free work on the playback feature. Is there anyway PilotAware can help out? Any thoughts?

General Discussion / Lee - trying to impress us ?
« on: March 17, 2023, 06:17:27 pm »
I went flying Mar 15 and found an UPDATE AVAILABLE on the radar screen. So went to UPDATE and all went smoothly and the new update was installed.

Flying again this afternoon, Mar 17 and I saw the UPDATE AVAILABLE message again. So went to UPDATE and it installed like a flash. I think Lee is trying to impress us and he has in my opinion succeeded.

Thanks for allowing the Nm/Km option on the radar screen and all the other things, some which of which might dawn on me as time flies by.

When did those poor guys with SE2 get their last update ???

Technical Support / Re: What's in the 20230228 software release?
« on: March 15, 2023, 10:18:43 pm »
Had a flight today and saw the update notification on the radar screen at ‘on blocks’, so went to the update option using ‘go to’ and pressed a button, not being sure whether  the ‘reset’ option’ was going to be necessary, after a short while I was notified that the Rosetta was rebooting and as nothing further happened on my iPad, I checked with my phone using 192.168 etc and bingo my PAW was reporting the latest software on the home page. Bingo. No idea how the magic works. Great. Thanks Lee.
