General Discussion / Re: Using PAW to test own Transponder
« on: November 08, 2020, 07:43:16 pm »
specs for modes S means it will transmit without needing to be pinged! I can't remember without fishing the spec out if it twice a second or once every 2 seconds, but either way no ping required!  auto ground mode may be a factor!

I guess that could explain it! It would be good, if it remains an open standard, to see an updated spec...

General Discussion / Group id and flight ID in P3I
« on: June 07, 2020, 04:12:18 pm »
Hi,
I was just wondering what I'm missing! ? with both Group ID and Flight ID not being transmitted according to the P3I spec i was wondering what the point of these are and also how the function of group ID as described is achieved give they are not transmitted?

Have I missed where in the protocol they are added or something else?

Group ID
Associate   yourself   with   a   group   of   aircraft   on   a   fly   out   or   a   club   event   by   associating
yourself   with   a   Group   ID.   All   aircraft   in   the   same   group   as   you   will   be   bracketed   with   the   ‘#’
character,   so   will   appear   as   #Group-ID#.   This   is   set   to   PAW-Group   by   default   so   you   can
determine   PAW   traffic   from   ADSB   in   the   first   instant.   It   is   fully   acceptable   to   leave   this
blank.

Flight ID
Normally your Reg

OGN-R PilotAware / Re: OGN Latest not installing!
« on: October 01, 2019, 07:38:20 pm »
Thanks for all your suggestions, finally found the issue and have the image installed!

The issue was that my power supply was shutting down intermittently! I assume as the CPU switches up and draws more power, however plugging it into a battery or the other power supply and all works normally, the power supply has been consigned to the bin!

hi all,
thanks for your input I left it installing while I went out for 4hours and on my return, I plugged an HDMI cable in, it was stuck at the noobs selector screen. Selecting pilot aware shows the pilotaware box and then reboots back to the same screen!

I will try again tomorrow with some other hardware

Buster lite installed without issue on the same pi and mem card after without issue!

Mem card is only 8Gb does it require a 16Gb?

OGN-R PilotAware / OGN Latest not installing!
« on: September 27, 2019, 05:30:29 pm »
Hi,
while this could be me, I have install a lot of PI's but could still be the hardware or SD card, but I have tried a Pi 2b+ and a Pi 3 and 2 different Micro SD cards.

Download image taken from http://pilotaware.lode.co.uk/downloads/OGN/PilotAware-OGN.latest.zip

Files unzipped and contents of folder copied to root of the formated 8Gb SD card

Power light comes on but the SD access light remains off.

Is it the image or do I have 2 dead pi's or SD cards?

SDs format ok with the SD formatter.

Thanks

Adi

OGN-R PilotAware / Re: Data consumption
« on: September 23, 2019, 10:55:36 pm »
Thanks All,
Lee, currently we have 15gb but we are getting through most of that! We are looking at getting a new sim and allowance which will give us either 45Gb or 100gb or 200gb depending on the option and costs we go for.

Our current speeds are around 10mbps up and 16mbps down but we do get higher sometimes!

I have not checked the latency.

We would like to re broadcast cast the ADSB/3D info also

OGN-R PilotAware / Data consumption
« on: September 23, 2019, 12:02:48 am »
Hi
Potentially looking at setting up a a ground station at our airfield, however we only have a 4G router and limited data allowance.

While I know the data usage will be variable, does anyone have some idea of the amount consumed per day?

Also is it permissible and possible to schedule the system to work during a given time period per day?

Thanks

Technical Support / Re: Rosetta volume output too low

I have also seen this on a couple of microlights where they are using a stereo lead plugging into a mono annunciator port, effectively shorting out one channel and pulling down the audio output on the other!

Swapping the ports mono jack for a stereo with only one channel wired has meant they can use a standard cable and get a good loud output.

Technical Support / Re: GPS Signal Lost 0 found
« on: September 17, 2019, 11:14:21 pm »
I installed the latest update 20190621, re-input the configuration settings, Hex-id. licence key etc. all working fine in my study.
Tried it in the plane today on the ground. I have 3 reds
P3I RX=0 TX=0 CRC=0
Barometer Configuring manual QNH=1013 QNE=107ft
GPS Unavailable

I tried repositioning the unit, even put it outside, thinking that it was not receiving GPS signals.

OK problem sorted. the GPS dongle was lose, so I pushed it. Now 4 greens

I had two pilotaware users bring me there PaW with the same issue Sunday, GPS green flashing light but SD reporting no GPS. Both were the new larger Stratux GPS, and both were partly out. Pushing them fully home fixed them both. A bit of self adhesive foam behind the GPS should sort it out!

The status page showed no gps was plugged in which was the give away!

I had never seen this before and I look after about 12 units for different people!

You can copy the files and open them in a text editor, saves writing it all down, you then can copy and paste the information back line by line!

There was no way I could find to copy the complete file back due to the user privileges...

/root/servers/PilotAware.cfg

Cannot provide an automated solution, but ig you can read the disk

/root/cache
/root/servers/PilotAware.cfg

Thx
Lee

Just found what I Remembered reading!

Thanks Lee, I'm currently on beta 20190218 does that help?

Hi,
I'm sure I read somewhere a way of copying off the config and (or) the multiple profiles before a full system update!

I have tried SSH but needless to say, the default PI user name and PW doesn't let you in :)
FTP lets you access the tracks and PilotAware.Current file but this just has the software version in it...

Is there a way to back up the config and profile? as I will have many PaWs to update as most at my club come to me for this!

thanks

Adi
