General Discussion / Stratux Case
« on: May 26, 2017, 01:01:34 pm »
I got a Stratux case the other day.....and in my application it works really well.....It has a screw for mounting to a window sucker on the back of the case. The GPS stuck on the top with hot glue and lead shortened, the ADSB receiver antenna replaced by a NooElec 1090 mhz. And with easy access protected lid to cover the USB and Network ports. And plenty of holes for cooling....
Available from Amazon as has been mentioned in previous threads.

« on: May 20, 2017, 11:12:15 am »
I have posted this on the SkyDemon Forum and am in contact with Rob in tech support at SkyDemon but just wondered if anyone else is having this problem on their iPad when showing the Radar Screen.....I don't think it appears on the phone app just the iPad app......here is a copy of the forum text

Hi
I‌'m having a slight issue with the Traffic Radar (3.8.1.72) on an iPad Air (10.3.2) using PilotAware......I have enclosed a screenshot but the radar screen seems to crash, I can press the radar screen to increase or decrease its size but I can't recover it. There seems to be a little a graphic in the lower left hand corner of the radar screen. If i close the programme and restart everything is well again. But it keeps happening. Any ideas

General Discussion / PUK Antenna
« on: September 09, 2016, 01:52:54 pm »
Did anybody test any of these antennas for the Bridge....I heard somebody mention them a while back but then there was no follow up....
Looks like a nice solution if they work, maybe on some aircraft

Technical Support / Mode S Height Indication
« on: August 15, 2016, 10:30:40 am »
Thought I would fire this one out there.....I have been asked this question by a fellow user but as yet haven't noticed it on my PAW....When he is flying and reading the mode S contact  rings on his SkyDemon either green, amber or red there is no indication of height of the traffic above the ring......but on the ground when stationary the height is displayed.....is this a bug or something he is doing wrong
Oh and one other thing.....I had the PAW set up on the ground and a few people had logged onto the device with their iphones......and were tracking with their respective copies of SkyDemon.....the PAW was also plugged into a powered speaker for audio alerts so they could all hear.....and the audio alerts were repeated for however many people were logged on to the PAW....at one point 5 people were logged in and each message was repeated 5 times.....then one logged off so it was repeated 4 times.....etc etc......Is that right or another potential bug ?

Thanks

Technical Support / U-blox 7 GPS Failure - And Fix
« on: June 11, 2016, 04:06:34 pm »
Had a U-blox 7 failure today....first out of loads that I have used without issue.....But thought I would pass this on incase anybody has similar....The U-blox had been working without any problems the previous day. However today nothing.....I left in full open view for over an hour and recycled the power several times. PAW recognised it as a U-blox but zero reception....I put another U-blox in its place and the PAW sprung to life immediately.

Curios when I got it home, I downloaded this from the U-blox website which interrogates the chip.....again recognised it as a U-blox 7 but zero reception.....highly recommend the software....very interesting if you drill right down into it.

https://www.u-blox.com/en/product/u-center-windows

Anyway.....I decided to short the internal battery of the U-blox by gently prizing open the white case and hey presto after a cold restart.....she's back to life !!

Technical Support / Updating software via Ethernet
« on: May 31, 2016, 01:42:06 pm »
I read some where I'm sure the software doesn't have to be re flashed on the memory card via a PC now and that it can be done by plugging an ethernet cable from your router into the PAW ethernet port. I have done this and pressed the"updates" then "check for updates" button on the home screen of 192.168.1.1.It then says "checking for updates" but then hangs at this point
Am i doing something incorrectly or does this function not work yet. The PAW version is currently 20160511 and I have seen there is 20160530 but not sure what to do than to revert to the old manual method of PC to SD card transfer
Thanks

General Discussion / Barometric Pressure and FL levels
« on: September 27, 2015, 09:29:24 am »
Ok so I am a little lost with the figure being displayed next to the traffic aircraft on the SkyDemon screen.....I used Pilotaware for the first time in the air around Southend Airport (EGMC) yesterday .....we flew overhead the airport at 1700 feet on QNH 1026, set on our aircraft's altimeter......my Pilotaware has the barometric module fitted, we were trying to see if the figures made any sense as an EasyJet was taking off and was soon at the same height as us.....Initially there was no ADSB information coming from the EasyJet which is understandable as it was right underneath us.....but the first useful indicator was when it was at a very similar height to us......but what I'm not sure is when it was at the same height as us, what should SkyDemon have displayed......should it be 0 feet because its the difference  between us.....or will it be something different because I am pressure corrected with the internal barometric module updating the Pi and they are on 1013.......I am confused to say the least.......Is there a way of displaying the Barometric Module on the web interface to see if it is giving an accurate QNH.
Consequently what  should the figure be if it was another Pilotaware aircraft with or without a barometric sensor at the same height
Hope this makes some sort of sense

Thanks for all your great work Lee......Everybody is so impressed with this project and your commitment to it....I now have so many people wanting me to make the units I can't keep up !!

Kind regards

General Discussion / Wifi dropping out
« on: September 23, 2015, 11:29:31 pm »
Have had the unit up and running a few times but then I keep having a small issue with the wifi dropping out and then not reconnecting after several reboots until the wifi dongle calls down. Want to replace it with another wifi dongle but when I insert this it won't pair with the new licence code that you have supplied for the new module. I have entered the code many times but do I have to reformat the sd card and start again as it appears not to be writting the new licence code to the pi. Also where do I increase the power output of the wifi module
Thanks for all your help.
