General Discussion / Licence Renewal
« on: June 15, 2021, 12:00:17 pm »
Sorry, but a simple question

I've just renewed my PAW licence on my Rosetta. I've entered the new licence key, saved and refreshed, but the licence expiry date hasn't changed. The final digit of the key could be a zero or an O, though I suspect is it a zero

Can you please advise how long it takes for the licence details to update?

Cheers

Technical Support / USB port
« on: May 26, 2021, 08:09:49 pm »
Guys

Not sure if this is a cry for help or a suggestion

Today, for the umpteenth time, my PAW Rosetta dropped out. The reason was that the power lead from the Anker source disconnected from the power socket, even though the battery is velcro into position. I've always felt the old USB port is a weakness and has stopped some of my tablets in the past.

Q1. Is there a way of 'locking in' a USB connector into the power port?

Q2. Are you planning to use USB-C in future releases instead of the earlier versions?

General Discussion / Help with Bluetooth Settings for audio
« on: May 09, 2021, 12:11:44 pm »
Hi all

I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to link my Rosetta to my Lightspeed Zulu headset.

I'm baffled by the instructions in the user guide, as it only says go to the config page and click on the BT option. This comes up with a list of possible bluetooth options, but using their raw IDs - not helpful in identifying which is which.

Would it be possible for the team to produce a 'Ladybird' step-by-step guide for this function, please.

Thanks

Peter

Technical Support / Track Log explanation
« on: June 26, 2020, 10:14:38 am »
Dear all

I was flying yesterday in the SW. As we don't have much of a grid of ground stations here, I never had the chance to experience the bearingless target upgrade.

But looking at the track log, it looks like PAW dropped out, probably due to high temperature eg a lot of lines like this.

Quote
$PALOG,20200625,115231,WIFI,UDP,192.168.1.27:4000,DISCONNECTED
$PALOG,20200625,115231,WIFI,UDP,192.168.1.27:2000,ATTEMPT
$PALOG,20200625,115232,TEMPERATURE,47.20,C

And then on the log, a host of these

Quote
$PALOG,20200625,115617,DEBUG,MODEC-FILTER-PASS,43C5E4,181,SIG,200,MAX,170,FILTER,3756,VDIFF

I didn't manage to find a single ground station between Cornwall and EGTU, but the A400M out of Newquay was there!

Is there a glossary of how to interpret the trk log for dummies?

Regards

Peter

General Discussion / Development of PAW
« on: April 07, 2020, 09:55:09 am »
As we're now in lockdown and grounded for a bit, I'm just wondering what is happening with PAW.

The last update was around 10 months ago and, to be honest, I haven't been able to use some of the new features (the multilateration doesn't seem to work for me in the Far SW, probably as we have fewer receivers). I rarely see Mode C traffic, even when I am flying alongside them. I seem only to pick up Mode S, ADSB and PAW.

SD does produce more regular updates and their version history now shows forthcoming developments. Is this a practical thing for PAW to do?

Finally, could the PAW team bring us up to speed as to what they are working on and the direction of travel of PAW, as far as they can.

Technical Support / Missing FLARM contacts
« on: January 13, 2020, 04:15:24 pm »
I was at our airfield (EGTU) yesterday where there is an OGN/PAW aerial. Whilst I could pick up ADS-B and (some) Mode S contacts I couldn't see any Flarm-equipped gliders who were definitely in the air. A colleague logged into the OGN  thingy and it was clear that it was picking up and tracking gliders, but they weren't being displayed on either my SD or on the traffic page of PAW.

My question is, how would I know if the issue lies with the rebroadcast from the OGN/PAW aerial or my Rosetta? Looking at the config page it showed no error messages that I could see.

General Discussion / New version of PAW
« on: May 09, 2019, 01:02:50 pm »
Just a polite query, but is there a date yet for the launch of the next version of PAW?

There has been some mention of the Beta test. Has that been going well and what enhancements can we expect?

Technical Support / Loss of connection (again)
« on: June 16, 2018, 10:57:57 am »
In recent weeks my PAW Classic has started to drop the connection to Skydemon.

I've assumed that as Keith said, this was a power issue but yesterday when I flew back from AeroExpo I was using a fully charged Anker 20100 battery and the original power cable. I also had the Nexus 7 tablet fully charged.

The flight up was fine and all worked as expected. When I reconnected PAW and fired up my Nexus 7 in the aircraft parking it failed to connect to the pilotaware connection. My passenger tried to connect to his ipad but that too failed. We did note the audio alerts were working fine, so much so that we disconnected the audio! I had time in the queue to reboot the tablet and tried again to connect to PAW, again, without success - the tablets showed the message that it was trying to connect or searching for the IP address.

In the end I abandoned PAW and went to the internal GPS for the return flight. As usual, on landing, I checked and found that PAW had kept a record of the flight.

Once home I reconnected the kit and the tablet connected to PAW powered by the same Anker battery, without a problem. I ran the track on Skydemon and it ran without problem and showed all the aircraft as expected.

So it would appear my problem is not power related neither is it tablet specific. It is an intermittent fault that seems to have no obvious cause or pattern. Perhaps the tablets were overloaded by other signals.

I'll be moving to Rosetta soon as it looks like it is much more robust compared to Classic.

Technical Support / ADSB Dongle and Error messages
« on: November 30, 2017, 11:53:06 am »
I'm continuing to have problems picking up aircraft broadcasting on Mode C - I can usually pick up Mode S but over recent weeks not a sniff of a Mode C even when I catch and fly alongside a Mode C-equipped aircraft.

Today when I tried it, I see on the Home page that the ADS-B box is showing as red. I've checked that the ADS-B dongle is seated properly but the problem remains. Is this a hardware issue, do you think?

I've also been looking at some of the PAW messages under logging and see that I am getting line after line of

NAV-UDP : /var/lib/misc/udhcpd.leases Lease File updated.

Can you please explain what that means?

Technical Support / PAW issues with SD on Nexus 7
« on: July 09, 2017, 10:30:17 pm »
I've been using PAW for some months now and although I find it useful, there have been issues that are making it almost unusable for me

1) I am surprised how many aircraft I see but aren't showing up. I put this down to them not squawking or aren't equipped. Not a PAW issue
2) PAW seems to pick up Mode C/Mode S late ie after they pass me
3) Today turning final I received a warning about a PAW equipped microlight  counting down distance and telling me we were at the same level. I was at 500' and they were on the ground. It was worrying as I interpreted this as  I was catching it up on finals. It wasn't.
4) Finally, and more important. I find that the PAW/Nexus combination is unreliable. It drops out regularly and frequently - 5 times in a short period today. I receive a message that the connection has failed but it doesn't reconnect. In the end I reverted to the onboard GPS although PAW was still logging the flight and producing audio warnings

Are these issues that others are experiencing and is there a fix?
