Update 27/7/2017. Latest software loaded O.K. Thought I would try password facility again. IT DOES NOT WORK AGAIN. refuses to connect. Does anybody use this facility?

Downloaded latest software - Unit working o.k. Radar looks brilliant.

Setting up system, tried password facility again.

I never got this to work on the previous software release!

Set the password and cannot get back into system again.

Does anyone use this facility?

I have connected the PilotAware directly to the router again has previously suggested, not connecting at all.

So I now have a dead PilotAware.

Looks like I will have to do a manual software reload and not use the password protection.

Working O.K.

Decided to use password facility on WiFi.

Inserted password.

I can not have forgotten the password in 5 minutes.

Anyone else had this problem before I use the manual update to reset the system??

General Discussion / Pilot Aware on ANDROID version of Runway HD.
« on: July 05, 2016, 09:30:50 am »
Runway HD is now available on Android devices,
Unfortunately the FLARM option which is required for the Pilot Aware unit is NOT yet available.
Airbox inform me that it will be available via an update when they have finished development, hopefully later this year.

Ahh Well, back to using two devices, Aware+ for airspace and XCSoar TE for Pilot Aware notifications.

Looking forward to using one device. I know there are other options but sticking with AirBox.

General Discussion / ARF Aerial Socket fitted incorrectly.
« on: December 04, 2015, 09:17:29 am »
Took my PilotAware unit to Telford for a test with known working units.

No transmit or Receive from my ARF.

At home had a look at the aerial and socket.

I had fitted the socket with a spacer and the supplied lock washers.

Unfortunately this meant that the aerial could not be screwed far enough on for the center conductor to connect.

Removed the thick lock washer so that there is a gap between the aerial plug and the socket securing nut when the aerial is fitted.

Need a good flying day now to test again.

Weather permitting.

Wombleton, Eddsfield, Market Weighton, Sherburn, Ripon, Bagby, Wombleton.

Unit has original ARF, will be transmitting but only expecting to receive ADS-B. No ADS-B out.

General Discussion / DVB Dongle replace Aerial.
« on: November 16, 2015, 06:55:09 pm »
I purchased this item from eBay.

DVB:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201349905111?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Works very well but the long cable is untidy.

I am sure I have seen photo's of PilotAware with an aerial plugged directly into the DVB dongle.

Searched the forum and the web so far with no success.

Anybody found an aerial that I can plug in and loose the cable?

General Discussion / Flyer live show - Telford.
« on: November 16, 2015, 12:40:30 pm »
I am taking my PilotAware unit with me to Telford.

It is an original Build with the ARF transceiver modified to get rid of the pigtail and include the Baro.

Works great sat on my window ledge picking up commercial Traffic.

Bit remote here so not yet had chance to fly near some other units to see if the ARF is working.

I know Lee tested some units at the LAA rally but he could be inundated this time.

Would be good if other units were in the area so that we might see each other.

Can 4 working PAW be placed in the corners of the venue so that we can try our units?

I am planning on having the unit switched on in the car on the way to Telford, I know buildings and trees are in the way but I might get lucky and pick up the transmission from another unit.

General Discussion / PilotAware display on two devices.
« on: November 14, 2015, 12:11:59 pm »
I have uploaded the latest software.

Can not find the reference now but the email suggested that you could see the PilotAware output on more than one device?

Works O.K. on iPhone with Runway HD.
Works O.K. on Huddle with XCSoar.

But not on both devices at the same time?

I have the USB dongle fitted and working.

Have I misunderstood the content of the email or do I need to change some settings somewhere?

General Discussion / Request a simpler system.
« on: November 02, 2015, 06:30:17 pm »
This is posted in enhancement forum.

I was lucky with my iphone got system working great BUT would prefer a stand alone system.

Iphone screen too small, iPad device too old to run SkyDemon or Runway HD. Both dependent on subscriptions to third parties.

So many combinations of display possibilities but many posts of problems with third party devices.

Is version 1 available seems to be just what I want. I have a windows CE device.

Might be a cool idea for a standalone box, w/o tablet. Just to draw your plane in center and then 1 mile-circles around it to display other aircrafts positions in.

so funny, here is version 1 of PilotAware from two years ago running on a WindowsCE device

There are still some pilots who fly VFR without GPS, iPads, etc who might be interested in an inexpensive collision avoidance device.
Power FLARM too expensive. A stand alone device would be very attractive. Especially if no chart subscription required.

General Discussion / List of Working display options.
« on: October 31, 2015, 06:44:13 pm »
On another thread I posted a problem with Runway HD on an old iPad.

I suggested users add to a list the display option they are using, so to start.

System works on iPhone 4 running iOS 7.1.2 with Pilot3i and Runway HD.

General Discussion / Runway HD not loading on iPad.
« on: October 30, 2015, 10:57:26 pm »
Runway HD will not load on my iPad. Suggests loading earlier version but that will not load either!
Cannot load iOS 7.1 on my iPad. Latest is iOS 5.1.1!
Is there an older version of Runway HD which will work on iOS 5.1.1?

This inexpensive project will become expensive if I need a new iPad.

Please can you specify operating system requirements in the next construction manual.

SkyDemon will not load either.

PilotAware does work on my iPhone but I need a bigger screen, hence trying to use ipad.

General Discussion / Runway HD on Iphone display delay?
« on: October 23, 2015, 09:00:21 pm »
Hi,

See below for original problem. Now resolved.

Solution,

Set FLARM parameters to + or - 1000 feet.
Adjust displayed map size so you can only see a radius of 10 miles.

On removing power from PilotAware iPhone reports loss of FLARM in a few seconds.

Whilst trying system I had set it to look at + or - 50000 feet and about 50 miles. Could see plenty of contacts but Runway HD has trouble keeping up displaying lots of contacts. Seems to store them and display them when it can. Hence still displaying for a minute or so after switching PilotAware off.

In normal use only interested in close contacts so should display those correctly.

Original Post.

Built a PilotAware to use on my iphone with Runway HD.

First tests successful so have an Ipad on order.

So far only tested on dashboard of Landrover but receiving ADSB from commercial traffic O.k.

However today I noticed that after disconnecting the power to the PilotAware the iphone continued to display moving traffic for a few
minutes?

So either the PilotAware continues to send information after power disconnected or the information sent is delayed somewhere, in a buffer?, and displayed later.

So anyone know if there is a time delay before data is displayed?

If there is a delay it may or may not be significant depending on length of delay and closing speed of approaching aircraft.

Tried attaching photos but files too large?

General Discussion / Building a PilotAware.
« on: September 01, 2015, 09:59:02 pm »
I have ordered the parts to build a unit today.
I currently use a PCAS device and have looked at FLARM but cost is prohibitive.
I hope this becomes widely available.
Is there anyway of knowing how many units are being constructed?
Could the members list be annotated to show members using unit and members who are constructing a unit?
