Technical Support / Powering Up With No Bridge Antenna
« on: January 26, 2017, 07:39:07 am »
There were some posts in the past advising not to power up without an antenna as to do so may damage the bridge.

If the GPS dongle and DVB dongle are removed, and the unit powered up with no bridge antenna connected, is this still the case?   Or would the bridge be safeguarded as there is no GPS information and so it will not transmit or receive?

If it still is a problem and danger to the bridge, have the team thought of producing a little gadget to screw onto the bridge antenna connector that produces the same impedance/resistance and protects it for when people bring their units home having left antennas in the aircraft?

Technical Support / Pressure Altitude (BMP) Status
« on: December 19, 2016, 10:30:10 pm »
I just updated to the latest version. Prior my pressure altitude status was picking up a QNH 1022 (actually spot on accurate).

Since the update I get the screen below. QNH=1013

Has the update upset my pressure sensor, or is there a change to the settings?

On the wifi front, what settings should I use now?  I think the unit has remembered my previous settings of b, channel 9, 100mw  should I be using g and 10mw now?  I am a little confused.

Best wishes,

Ian

General Discussion / Extension leads
« on: May 28, 2016, 09:16:01 am »
I noticed the aerial extension lead on the store. It is 3m long though. Is it possible for someone to explain what connectors (presumably gold SMAs), cable and techniques should be used so that users can make custom length cables for their aircraft?

(or buy a 3m lead and chop it down to length?)

Technical Support / SOLVED! - GroupID
« on: May 23, 2016, 08:32:23 am »
Simple 1 minute question:

I've worked out and configured the HexId, and out the aircraft Reg in the FlightID (I presume that is correct).

What is the GroupID for?  Mine is configured as PAWgroup I think, I have refrained from altering it.

General Discussion / Project Propeller 2016
« on: May 23, 2016, 08:30:24 am »
Is it worth us, purely for interest, making a list of those operating in this year's event that are taking a PAW Classic with them?

I am taking mine for an 1115-1130 a South Hold slot at Scampton

General Discussion / PAW was really helpful today - even as ADS-B only
« on: January 10, 2016, 11:54:10 pm »
We were running along, running 2 iPads off of PAW, the weather not being the most congenial to a good lookout and early visuals. On the penultimate leg of our journey, we spotted an aircraft with an examiner call sign at the same level and a good 10 miles out but manoeuvring about our intended track. Both of us working different ATS's and not aware of each other by RT. This gave us loads of time to sharpen the lookout in that direction, plan a change of level and manoeuvre so as to pass with plenty of space between us.

We got visual, eventually, I would say 1.5-2 miles by eye and the same confirmed on SkyDemon. I estimated closing speed at around 250kts or so. Had we not been using PAW, we may have got quite a surprise, and had to manoeuvre more abruptly.

Very, very impressed chaps, thanks again for all your hard work. Can't wait for the forthcoming radio units and Mode C/S implementation.
