Technical Support / Loss of PAW 860-band transmission Solved
« on: November 17, 2023, 10:51:26 am »
Made 2 flights with G_DENS (40263C) on 15/11. Track file shows reception from targets with ACSBP and U, so clearly 860-band reception is working. However there is nothing on Vector or PAW Playback. Any suggestion as to where the fault might lie? All was working for previous flights on 9/11. In an earlier message I had indicated that track files showed occasional breaks though PAW Playback did not. At the Bristol Strut meeting last week Ashley suggested that the SD card may have problems so I am about to try out a new one.

Technical Support / Breaks in Track recording
« on: July 26, 2023, 09:51:06 am »
I am getting occasional breaks in track files - any suggestions as to the reason? Example track file attached - note breaks eg between 083827-084305,084335-084805, 084855-085305. Classic PAW.

Technical Support / Corrupted track files?
« on: November 13, 2022, 10:22:55 pm »
I attach a couple of recent track files (4 November, 12:11 onwards, 40263C). The flights are accurately shown on Aircrew Groundstation Playback. However on Aircrew Playback for the first flight there are discontinuities in height and the latter part of the flight is not displayed, and for the second track file Aircrew says "Error loading flight".  Any suggestions? I have only loaded the first part of the second track file to stay within 512KB.

Technical Support / Vector curiosity
« on: September 26, 2022, 06:52:09 pm »
Looking at 40263C on Vector for its last 4 flights, I get a pitiful CAP1391 plot for the last flight, nothing for the previous 3 flights. But there is an ADS-B plot for all four flights. Our only outputs are SE2 (which has always previously appeared with CAP1391 selected) and PAW. Has something changed? Answer may be obvious but in my present Covid-befuddled state I can't see it!

Technical Support / Vector and Malwarebytes
« on: August 24, 2022, 05:37:02 pm »
Vector is working fine on my IPhone and on a Windows tablet, but on my PC (for a couple of months or so) it is consistently being blocked by Malwarebytes because of a detected Trojan. Anyone else with the same problem?

Technical Support / Breaks in Track recording
« on: May 22, 2022, 10:22:41 am »
On several recent flights there have been breaks in the recorded Track files. PAW appears otherwise to be working normally - traffic is visible, the PAW continues to provide the GPS source for my tablet, and playback on PAW Grid appears normal. I have not been cleaning out downloaded track files - should I be doing so, is there a problem with track memory capacity? I attach a couple of track recordings from yesterday, the first is the complete record with several breaks, the second has been truncated for size but shows at the end the single jump on that flight from 123529 to 124013. Classic PAW, ID 40263C.

Regards,

Technical Support / ADS-B status line
« on: May 15, 2021, 03:50:38 pm »
This may have been answered before. I was tracking a friend's aircraft today with my PAW Classic. The traffic page showed only CS, and nothing in the ADS-B status line, but PAW Playback Grid and PAW Vector both show that he is transmitting ADS-B well. What am I missing?

Technical Support / Aircrew Playback symbology
« on: March 07, 2021, 07:10:06 pm »
Could someone please remind me what the ACSPUMB identifiers on Aircraft Playback are? Also what is the implication of "Type: static"?
Is there anywhere which explains all this?

Technical Support / Loss of connection - PAW Classic
« on: July 17, 2020, 08:43:14 pm »
Flew yesterday - behaviour fine outbound, unable to connect to tablet inbound. Now running at home. Starts up OK, but after a while lose all PAW pages and symbology on my tablet. Lights appear to be flashing as normal, tablet (and IPhone) still say PAW connected, but when I look at 192.168.1.1 pages I get the message "The server could not fulfil your request because the resource specified is unavailable or non-existent."

Yet the audio seems to be working. Is it possible for the WiFi to have a fault where it can connect to my tablet but not transmit information from the PAW?

Technical Support / MLAT and EasyVFR
« on: July 22, 2019, 10:07:58 pm »
HI,

Have been using the latest software for a couple of weeks with EasyVFR; was disappointed that I hadn't detected any MLAT targets. Made a longer flight today from Bath to Rugby and noticed that a few MLAT targets appeared on the traffic page, and audio warnings were given, but no target was displayed on EVFR. Disappointingly not even a bearingless Mode-S (presumably because it's no longer bearingless),though other non-MLAT bearingless Mode-S targets were displayed.

Am I missing something simple?

Technical Support / Network settings
« on: September 02, 2018, 07:45:27 pm »
While in the past the PAW connection to my Nexus tablet (running EasyVFR) has been totally reliable, over the last few flights I have had quite a few dropouts and difficulty in reconnecting. The PAW is clearly still working, as audio warnings are being generated. Out of the aircraft at home it seems totally reliable. I was looking at the Network Settings page this evening and noticed that the Mode is set to G whereas the PAW Operating Instructions give Mode B. I am not aware of having changed the setting - what is the difference between Mode B and Mode G and which should I be using? I also wondered whether a higher power setting might overcome the dropout problem - I currently have 20mW set - though my tablet is only 30cm or so from the PAW. Any advice?

Technical Support / Display differences
« on: June 11, 2018, 04:49:17 pm »
I have 20180520 loaded, a colleague has an earlier version (I think 20180129). Our configuration page settings are the same - Mode-CS+filter (Beta on his). On my traffic page I can see him (CSAP) but not myself. On his traffic page he can see me (CS-P) and also himself. Is there a reason for this difference? He has had a occasional "ghost" target (an aircraft symbol on his SkyDemon) very close , 100ft below which turns with him.I assume it is generated somehow from his own transmissions. I have checked that he has the correct (and matching) registration and Hexcode. Thoughts please?

Technical Support / Mode S behaviour - normal?
« on: April 03, 2017, 08:03:39 pm »
I have a TRT800 transponder and Dittel KRT2 radio. Have today at last managed to get PAW audio warnings working correctly with the KRT2 (the KRT2 manual isn't totally clear). I was surprised to find that I was receiving warnings about my own aircraft - though when I got home I realised that the wrong Hex code was set. However what also surprised me was that the warnings, and the aircraft entry on the traffic page, were there even when the transponder was in STBY. Is this to be expected?
