Technical Support / Dropouts Persist Since Rosetta Upgrade Part 2
« on: May 30, 2020, 09:25:17 am »
HI Lee and Team,

I posted this some time ago. As you know I was an early adopter, but since the rosetta upgrade and more specifically the ground traffic update i've had such a poor user experience that i've pretty much resigned my second unit to the shed and my current unit is likely to end up the same.,1352.msg19128.html#msg19128

I fly around the southeast and specifically through the Gatwick / Heathrow / F'boro mess so reliable GPS is something I need.  My ipad never loses signal but when using my pilotaware I consistenly lose the signal and have to quickly change Skydemon to location services.  It's just far too unreliable.

I changed the UDP as you suggested Lee but this hasn't solved the problem.

I've been flying a PA28, the unit is sat ontop of the combing so direct view with the sky, and in both of the two last instances I was straight and level flight when I lost connection on my ipad.  I have tried using both USB connection to the aircraft and the anker battery pack and had the same results over a number of flights.

Clearly somethings wrong, unless other people are experiencing persistent connection issues then I guess its something hardware related.  Pre rosetta and ground traffic uplink the units were rock solid with no issues and I relied on them every flight.

I've attached yesterdays flight track, and the one before. I don't know if this is of any use to you.  It was fine for a period of time then just dropped out, rather annoyingly just as I was heading towards the F'boro CTA.

I just can't use the units reliably when flying around the TMA, the distraction is too great at the moment.

I appreciate any thoughts you may have and if you need any uploads from me, please let me know.  Hopefully this will help solve any potential issues for other users as I note theres a few other posts where people seem to be having similar problems.

Technical Support / Rosetta Module - Intermittent Traffic
« on: July 15, 2019, 10:04:50 pm »
Hi all,

My first outing with the new rosetta module and software update yesterday - and I didn't feel as confident in its use so thought i'd ask what peoples experiences have been and also what could be making such a difference?

For background, the unit is mounted in exactly the same place and the settings are exactly the same with the addition of the 3D element.

What I found was traffic was extremely intermittent, compared to my old unit which showed items rock solid.  I've reviewed the track on and you can see the traffic being very intermittent.

For example one aircraft which shows as Mode A/S/C and PAW equipped under 3 miles kept dropping off, yet on FR24 shows solid visibility against my track.  This made me very concerned because it drew my attention to the appearance and alerts then disappearing.

Equally on the return leg I had another aircraft under 2nm appear and disappear.  This one on shows Mode A/S/C and ADSB.

I have the tracks and i'm happy to send them or anything else you guys need, but I think in the short term i'm going to use my old unit and old software version.

At no point did the connection to the iPad drop, and this is powered from a USB socket.

Do you have any thoughts on what this could be?

I hope you don't take this as an attack, I just felt confident with my old unit, but this just seemed so intermittent that I'd rather not use it at the moment.

Technical Support / RPI 3 upgrade
« on: May 30, 2019, 07:00:39 pm »
Sorry to ask a stupid question, with the forthcoming software upgrade - it's probably time to upgrade the pi in my unit.

Which version 3 is the correct one to get?  And Can I just switch my license over to the new unit using the inbuilt wifi?

Many thanks in advance

I have the standard one, but ideally need one about a metre long, any recommendations for a good quality power lead?

General Discussion / Garmin Pilot
« on: November 06, 2017, 10:00:36 am »
Has consideration been given to making pilotaware work with Garmin Pilot?  I read with interest some US groups getting Stratux to work with Garmin Pilot through the Xplane interface?  Interested to hear any thoughts on this.

Best regards

Technical Support / Ads-b adaptor issues
« on: October 29, 2017, 01:27:15 pm »
So I have three of the small adaptors, the one on the known good hardware list, I have tried all three and my PAW won't pick up any traffic.  It shows RED in the admin page.

Anyone else have experiences of the same?

General Discussion / Transfer and renewal
« on: August 29, 2017, 08:50:54 pm »
I have a second unit that needs renewing the license on, but I want to give this to a friend.

Will they be able to just renew/purchase or will the serial/mac throw an error for a different name/email?

Thanks team.

General Discussion / Extension for p3i antenna
« on: January 31, 2017, 03:56:31 pm »
Afternoon all,

Has anyone built an extension lead or found an alternative to the p3i antenna?

I want to mount the pilotaware behind the panel due to limited space and have the GPS mouse but need to try and extend the antenna for the bridge?

Many thanks

The latest release says it must have the bridge, can I download the latest version for a unit without the new bridge?
