Technical Support / Just set up iGrid and get momentary voltage errors
« on: March 31, 2024, 08:05:52 pm »
Hi,

I've just added a Wi-Fi dongle which I took from my old PAW classic to my Rosetta in order to start using iGrid.

All configured and working fine.

However, in the hour or so I've been testing it out at home I noticed briefly that it complained about the voltage.  I was able to take a photo of the tablet screen.  It has done this a few times now, albeit very briefly each time.  Most of the time is says voltage OK.  Couple of photos attached to show the two.

I am using a PowerBank that I've always used without issue rated at 5-6v/3a 6-9v/2a 9-12v/1.5a and the supplied Rosetta JuiceBitz USB cable.

I am thinking the extra wi-fi dongle power draw is obviously causing this.

Any thoughts please?

Hi,

I have purchased a used PAW Rosetta for which the licence has expired.

When I first tested it out (with software version 20190621), I could see the Bearingless Contacts Settings and the 1090 antenna was working and picking up local airliners (I live near LBA).

Since updating to version 20230316 I no longer have the Bearingless Contacts Settings in the config menu and on the home screen BOTH 1090 and P3I are red with a status of Disconnected.

Has the software become corrupted OR does the new software version block 1090/P3I and remove the Bearingless Contacts Settings for them without a valid licence?

I will of course buy a licence but want to be sure the device is working first.

Regards
Kevin

General Discussion / Is someone else using my ICAO Hex code?
« on: September 09, 2021, 09:42:42 am »
Hi,

My aircraft has been u/s since December 2020 and my PilotAware licence expired (will renew it now as aircraft is serviceable again).  However, I notice that a search on the hex code results in some PAW "pings" from my hex code over June, July and August 2021.  Does this mean someone has incorrectly used my hex code?

OGN-R PilotAware / New ATOM Ground station SDR Detection Issues
« on: December 27, 2020, 02:05:56 pm »
Hi,

PWUKFUF/UKRUF is a new ATOM ground station, previously only an OGN station.

Having a few issues with detecting SDR's as pasted below and being looked into by the PAW Team (Keith/Chris/Lee).

However, are there any useful commands that can be run without the need to run config every time.  For example to reboot the Pi, check the SDR status's?

Regards

Kevin

Config From 19th Dec (First time running after setting up ground station hardware and interestingly the FLARM antenna was NOT plugged into USB Bottom Right but into the Top Left):

(15:32:36) FILESYS   : Mount RW
Stopping Services
Do not plug in or remove any SDR dongles whilst this configuration script is running.
It is strongly advised to have the SDR's plugged in and then reboot the Pi before running this configuration script.
Found 2 SDR's:
USB Port Top Left    : SDR detected  ID=1  currently unallocated
USB Port Bottom Left : no SDR detected
USB Port Top Right   : no SDR detected
USB Port Bottom Right: SDR detected  ID=0  currently allocated to OGN/FLARM reception on 868Mhz
One SDR is currently configured for OGN and you have an unallocated SDR which could be used for ADS-B reception.

Config From 20th Dec (Picked up both dongles and assigned correct ID’s as per the Instruction Manual – ID=1 to OGN/FLARM and ID=0 to ADSB AFTER initially complaining of conflicting SDR serial numbers and following a couple of reboots):

(19:47:31) FILESYS   : Mount RW
Stopping Services
Do not plug in or remove any SDR dongles whilst this configuration script is running.
It is strongly advised to have the SDR's plugged in and then reboot the Pi before running this configuration script.
Found 2 SDR's:
USB Port Top Left    : SDR detected  ID=1  currently allocated to OGN/FLARM reception on 868Mhz
USB Port Bottom Left : no SDR detected
USB Port Top Right   : no SDR detected
USB Port Bottom Right: SDR detected  ID=0  currently allocated to ADS-B reception on 1090Mhz
One SDR is currently configured for OGN and the other is configured for ADS-B reception.

No tinkering post the above config.... until today (27th) as noticed FLARM was not working:

Config Attempt 1 (27th Dec following FLARM dropout) – Issue appears to be the same serial numbers allocated to both SDR’s – How can this happen given nobody has done anything on the Pi since the above config run on 20th?:

(11:40:57) FILESYS   : Mount RW
Stopping Services
Do not plug in or remove any SDR dongles whilst this configuration script is running.
It is strongly advised to have the SDR's plugged in and then reboot the Pi before running this configuration script.
Found 2 SDR's:
WARNING: Either an SDR has no serial number or two or more SDR's have identical serial numbers.
The configuration can only continue once all SDR's have unique serial numbers assighned.
The SDR's will now have their serial numbers changed to randomly assigned values and a reboot will be required.
If any of the SDR's are plugged into a powered USB hub then the hub will also need to be powered down at the same time.
Proceed with updating the serial numbers and reboot [Y/n]: y

Hello,

PAW Classic.

Quite often when changing between the menu options on 192.168.1.1 or when saving amended configuration I get an HTTP error on the browser, which when I look in the Logging tab relates to the following:

HTTP : recv_pthread(): pid 758 : Resource temporarily unavaiable

Any ideas please?

Hi,

I have a Pilot Aware Classic. I would like to enclose it a new Stratux case rather than pay out again for a Rosetta.

Has any one done this, if so do you have a link to the particular Stratux case/box you used and any tips?  I have the Classic bridge still and the Pi2.

Couple of other queries:

The supplied PAW Classic rtl-sdr dongle gets very hot.... I have tried to source a stratux low power rtl-sdr v2, but cannot find stock anywhere. Has anyone managed to source a similar low powered one that runs cooler? If so any links please. I'm not keen on enclosing the PAW in a new case with this hot running dongle.

Final query, I am looking at either the NooElec 3dBi or 5dBi 1090MHz antenna, I know the 5dBi is longer and therefore guess it offers greater range as an aerial (as PAW only receives ADS-B) , but any recommendations would be great. The length is not an issue as the 5dBi is a similar length to the Pilot Aware signal antenna.

I shall post this on the Pilot Aware forum too, but have registered and am awaiting approval, been a few days now!

Thanks
Kevin
