General Discussion / Group id and flight ID in P3I
« on: June 07, 2020, 04:12:18 pm »
Hi,
I was just wondering what I'm missing! ? with both Group ID and Flight ID not being transmitted according to the P3I spec i was wondering what the point of these are and also how the function of group ID as described is achieved give they are not transmitted?

Have I missed where in the protocol they are added or something else?

Group ID
Associate   yourself   with   a   group   of   aircraft   on   a   fly   out   or   a   club   event   by   associating
yourself   with   a   Group   ID.   All   aircraft   in   the   same   group   as   you   will   be   bracketed   with   the   ‘#’
character,   so   will   appear   as   #Group-ID#.   This   is   set   to   PAW-Group   by   default   so   you   can
determine   PAW   traffic   from   ADSB   in   the   first   instant.   It   is   fully   acceptable   to   leave   this
blank.

Flight ID
Normally your Reg

OGN-R PilotAware / OGN Latest not installing!
« on: September 27, 2019, 05:30:29 pm »
Hi,
while this could be me, I have install a lot of PI's but could still be the hardware or SD card, but I have tried a Pi 2b+ and a Pi 3 and 2 different Micro SD cards.

Download image taken from http://pilotaware.lode.co.uk/downloads/OGN/PilotAware-OGN.latest.zip

Files unzipped and contents of folder copied to root of the formated 8Gb SD card

Power light comes on but the SD access light remains off.

Is it the image or do I have 2 dead pi's or SD cards?

SDs format ok with the SD formatter.

Thanks

Adi

OGN-R PilotAware / Data consumption
« on: September 23, 2019, 12:02:48 am »
Hi
Potentially looking at setting up a a ground station at our airfield, however we only have a 4G router and limited data allowance.

While I know the data usage will be variable, does anyone have some idea of the amount consumed per day?

Also is it permissible and possible to schedule the system to work during a given time period per day?

Thanks

Hi,
I'm sure I read somewhere a way of copying off the config and (or) the multiple profiles before a full system update!

I have tried SSH but needless to say, the default PI user name and PW doesn't let you in :)
FTP lets you access the tracks and PilotAware.Current file but this just has the software version in it...

Is there a way to back up the config and profile? as I will have many PaWs to update as most at my club come to me for this!

thanks

Adi

Technical Support / UAT Weather low power option
« on: May 29, 2019, 06:54:26 pm »
Hi,
some time ago I added a second "low" power SDR in the hope of trying the weather reception, however after ground running the box I was unhappy with both the heat and current, I realize others may not share my concern.  Anyway, Stratux is now offering a true low power UAT USB radio (see link below) does anyone  (@Lee?) know if this is supported or will be supported by Pilotaware?

General Discussion / EC DF18 reception
« on: February 09, 2019, 01:23:58 pm »
Hi,
With things like SkyEcho coming on the market which only transmit DF18 in acordance with CAP 1391. Can anyone confirm if an aircraft is not transponder equipped, so no mode C, but has a SkyEcho transmitting DF18 only will it be visible on Pilotaware?

General Discussion / Different GPS in Rosetta
« on: September 16, 2018, 10:05:30 am »
Hi,
I have a diy Pilotaware classic which I upgraded to a Rosetta and PI3B, so it uses the vk172 GPS.
Yesterday I saw a new Shiny Rosetta and when removing the usb cover I noticed it had a GPS with a bigger aerial, possibly a GPYes as used by Stratux?

I don’t see these for sale on the Pilotaware hardware accessories site, in fact the parts side in general looks a bit depleted.

Can anyone confirm what GPS Rosetta’s use? And where to buy the, from?

General Discussion / Aerials both ADS-B and P3I
« on: July 21, 2018, 07:46:43 pm »
Hi All,
so a couple of  questions for you:

1. Re the P3I dipole antenna sold by Pilotaware team and it's mounting polarisation, should it be mounted horizontal or vertical, I assume even though the signal is normally vertically polarised the antenna should be horizontally mounted as it appears to be helically wound?

2.  ADS-B aerial, I would like a small dipole aerial for ADS-B in also, can anyone recommend one? ideally with an MCX connector?

Many thanks

Adrian

Hi,
for my sines I get a lot of Pilotaware units to setup or upgrade for people from three different airfields, I always rename the last part of the SSID from the mac to the aircraft reg or persons name to save confusion. The first time I set the name the Pilotaware restarts the network and it comes back up with the original name the second time I change the name it takes effect. A very minor bug, but I thought I would feed it back to you.

This is after a full reload of the software after formatting the SD.

thanks

General Discussion / PI 3B with original PilotAware Bridge board
« on: June 27, 2018, 08:52:44 pm »
Hi all,
I ask for a friend, no honestly, I have already upgraded via the rosetta DIY kit.

Will the old bridge board work with the latest image and a Pi 3B ? I realise the license number will need changing.

If so what are the advantages:
Faster process thus handling multiple connections better and processing of mode C contacts?
     Integrated WIFI, one less dongle?

Disadvantages (if any)
    Greater power drain?

thanks Adi

General Discussion / Bridge board V1 vs V2
« on: June 24, 2018, 11:01:35 pm »
So apart from the layout of the board so it fits the Stratux cases, I was wondering what other differences there are between the two bridge boards, that is if it isn't secret?

different chipset?
support for the Artificial horizon?

General Discussion / Rosetta upgrade
« on: June 16, 2018, 09:25:35 am »
Hi,
I saw a post/page with the pricing on, but does anyone know when we will be able to order the upgrade?

Also, if I want to change to a PI3 at the same time (I have one spare) it will change the MAC address which I’m guessing means my licence won’t work, so is there a way to have it reassigned?

Thanks

General Discussion / Garmin D2 Charlie
« on: February 23, 2018, 09:29:45 pm »
Hi, so looking at the very nice but over priced D2 Charlie watch and I notice it can receive traffic and display on the watche!!!!

Below from the product infomation

"A compatible ADS-B “In” device, such as our portable GDL® 39 receiver, will further enable the Garmin Pilot app to relay notifications of potential traffic or terrain conflicts — as well as other situational alerts — to your D2 Charlie watch."

Just wondering if there is a way to connect Pilotaware directly or via skydemon to the watch, anyone looked into it?

General Discussion / A Cool part for PilotAware
« on: November 27, 2017, 02:42:58 pm »
OK so it should have read a cooler part for PilotAware :)

I have always had a concern over the amount of heat the SDR DVB-T generated, it is too hot to handle, in the past I have added a heatsink to help but Sunday I fitted and flew with a low power SDR (around 100mA less) and it worked well and remained cool enough that I could keep my finger on it unlike the old unit...

The unit was from https://www.rtl-sdr.com/tag/low-power/

General Discussion / Issue with ADS-B
« on: October 20, 2017, 12:52:40 pm »
Hi ,
I have notice what seems to be a small bug. the status page shows zero ADS-B messages but the traffic screen shows ADS-B traffic!
I have seen this on 2 units, one component built and the other from a classic kit.

See attached.

A reboot from the home screen button seems to fix it some times, or sometime just leaving it will go green and start counting and other times not!

I attach screen shots from one of the units
