General Discussion / Re: “Waiting for Device”

Are your power levels reporting good?

"waiting for device" was one of the 1st signs I was getting when my power cables were starting to break down.

Rosetta seems even more sensitive to the quality of the power supply than the classic used to be.

Thanks for all the replies.

It's a semi permanent install, I just tried different power supplies to check if that was the problem. Most commonly I've used the half meter cables as the power socket is near the Rosetta, but I also tried longer lengths, the original and one I already had. The 1st couple of cables were secured using tie bases and tie wraps but haven't bothered since then because of the frequency of changing! I must say that the connection into the Rosetta has never been as positive as into other devices that I have that use a micro usb so I think from what you have all said at/near the socket is probably where they are vibrating and failing. I think I'll try and secure this new lead with rubber bands or tie wraps to the Rosetta to try and keep it more secure and vibrate less and go back to tie wrapping the cable securely. I'll see if this cable lasts longer that way.

I used to have a classic and never experienced any problems. Sold that and just over a year ago bought a rosetta it works fine when its working but it's going through power cables.
Cables only seem to last about 2 months, the original and many replacement 20SWG Juicebitz cables. Tried a couple of cheap cables just in case but they lasted even less time.

The symptoms are always the same, works fine for a month or so, then becomes increasingly intermittent with lost gps and lost wifi, eventually gets so bad it's no longer worth trying to connect.
Fit a new cable and all is ok for another month then it starts getting intermittent again etc.
I've tried out the cables once they have 'gone' on other devices and they hardly seem to work. e.g. charging my tablet with a normal cable charges at about 1% every 1 to 2 mins. Use a 'bad' cable from the rosetta and it still charges but at about 1% every 1 to 2 hours!

Are they burning out? Anybody else have the same problem? Faulty P3i? any ideas apreciated.

Have tried with a couple of different power supplies including the recommended Ancor one, and using a battery pack. Makes no difference.

The only thing non standard is that its connected to a trig tt21 transponder to give ADSB out.

Lee,

I'm using SD on Android so still a little plane over mine, not as obvious as the rings. (hoping for an update soon!)

It's a while ago now so can't be sure but I think there was bearingless traffic indicated.
As I said the warnings were constant and totally distracting, I was on the ground starting my engine and checks, so looking at the details on screen was not a priority.
I'd only pulled the plug on the audio, so info to SD would still have been coming through.
I'm 99% sure there were no targets, bearingless or otherwise on screen by the time I taxied out which would only have been a few minutes later.
If that is any help.

Jim

Lee,

Exactly what is it you want to see, and how do I get it?

Lee, Peter,

Settings:

Mode-S separation +/- 1000 ft
Mode-S detect Short Range

No Transponder

Warnings were for bearingless targets, I'm on Android SD and they still appear as a small plane over the big one. Didn't notice how many.
No aircraft on screen with a location & track (PAW/ADSB)

Wouldn't most (all?) Luton traffic have ADSB ?

Cheers

Jim

I had a significant problem with this on Friday eve.
Preparing to fly out of Sandy, no one there with PAW or Mode S/C and no obvious traffic in the sky in the vicinity, I had a 100% constant series of audio bearingless warnings about traffic at my level.
I found it impossible to think, and that was on the ground!
In the end I pulled the audio jack out.
I suspect it was traffic on the ground at Old Warden, 40' higher, but why it was so constant I have no idea.
On taking off I could see nothing and after heading north a couple of miles I plugged the jack back in and all was quiet with a couple of useful alerts later in the trip.

Although pulling the jack worked, some better form of quick mute or easily adjusted volume level would be a significant help.

Had a crawl round the new web site.
A bit blingy, but most seems to be there and fairly easy to find.
Easier to use than the old web site.
No obvious link though to licencing, both cost and "how to", which with people I've talked to seems to be one of the most asked questions.
Keep up the good work.

Google takes you straight to the new web site which is how most prospective new users would get to it I think.

A temp home page directing to the old site perhaps?

Over the last few days I've tried logging into pilotaware.com

A couple of days ago all I got was errors and now there is something not worth having.

Please admin, take down the new pilotaware.com website and put the old one back until the new one is developed.

Having a quarter finished website with no useful information and no working links on it looks very poor and won't do the image of pilot aware as a serous product any good at all.

Very sad I had to write this.

so could probably write a better post processor, but please let me know if you have changed your default
GroupID, that would explain the difference

Yep the GroupID had been changed to S for some reason now reset to PAWGRP

Any chance of listing the reception distances for everybody so as to see the spread of effectiveness of installation. 19km sounds good to me but is that good, bad or indifferent?

needs a bit of work on the post processor log output, but at some point yes

Thanks for the fast reply,

Yes currently we have no transponder.

PAW was set up by my co-owner so will check if he changed the GroupID and let you know.
