Technical Support / Re: New iPhone v iGrid Hotspot
« on: May 28, 2023, 09:03:28 pm »
Paul,

I have an iPhone 14 Pro. Under the Hotspot setup, make sure you switch on 'Maximise Compatibility'. This makes sure the phone sets up its access point using 2.4G (not 5G) - you should then be able to see it on the Rosettas Network config screen.

Here are the instructions. If you have any problems, please email support@pilotaware.com.

Regards, Chris

To add your weather station:

a. Set up the weatherstation with Weather Underground. Obtain a weather station name and API-key (a very long string of letters and numbers) under ‘MyProfile’, My Devices’

Example: ICORSHAM13, 807c21215edb45999c31215ebb1f992b. The api-key is NOT the ‘key’ which has only 8 characters.

b. Run the configuration through the Owners Site, ’Status', ’Shell’, ‘Weather-Configure’. Choose your airfield ICAO if you have one. Enter the weather station name and API-key. Enable the service.

c. If success is reported, navigate to the Owners Site, ’Status', ’Grid’ and you will see the generated data line like: QFE 0987mb (GB-0185) (age=0 Mins), wind=6, gust=7, dir=88 - this is the data that will be sent to PilotAware equipped aircraft.

To be successful your system must pass several checks;

airfield exists in our ICAO table (we have > 8000 entries),
WX station must be within 2 km of airfield,
QNH must be available from nearest METAR station (< 45 minutes old, < 50km away)
weather data < 5 minutes old.

That's correct Steve.

General Discussion / Re: PAW Vector Question
« on: October 27, 2022, 06:41:32 pm »
Steve,

For those planes using iGrid (cellular link), we are able to record the planes that the Rosetta or Classic hears. Unlike 'Basestation which measure how basestations hear the plane, 'Rosetta' measures how well the plane hears other planes. This is usually substantially less than what the basestations hear as plane-to-plane do not have the benefit of the high gain base station antennas.

You will only see data under 'Rosetta' if you have iGrid in operation.

We have an anomaly in the way ADSB versus CAP1391 gets reported. PAW stations differentiate between the two versions, 360Radar does not yet do so. The effect is as you report - sometimes you get your CAP1391 transmissions reported as CAP1391, sometimes under ADSB.

Your actual data for CAP1391 is relatively good - most SE2 transmitters are worse. Have a look at http://10.49.227.7/vector/?icao=406AAD&RxType=ADSB&GraphType=polar&DirType=BASE to get an idea what a normal low-power ADSB transmitter looks like.

German Specific Forum / Re: FR24 feed wird immer Deinstalliert
« on: July 06, 2021, 03:49:41 pm »

OGN-R PilotAware / Re: PilotAware-OGN.update.sh now pulls down 360Radar

Hi Vince,

I run the OGN-R station at Bath and have been using the MLAT version for about a month. Tony gave me your mobile the other day - I will call tomorrow and give you a set of data. 3D-SMode works extremely well!

I am part of the Engineering team and have been testing a pre-release version of the OGN-R basestation and PAW software for the last few weeks. It is fantastic in the air and is very stable - you are going to love it!
