Technical Support / Re: Pilotaware gps stops working

You weren't transiting Birmingham airspace today were you?

There are GPS jamming trials going on there this weekend.

(FWIW my Trig gets its position data from a GNS430W. If I switch that off, or it loses integrity, the Trig keeps working but you just get a message to say that the position source has been lost).

Just to add to this, I've been out and about today and eveything seems fine with Vector data for today's flights for both PAW and ADSB.

Flight missing from Vector.

I flew for 45 mins on the 26th with both PAW and certified source ADSB-out via my Trig Transponder operational. I was given a squawk by the local radar service which was verified.

I saw at least two PAW ground stations on my SkyDemon chart, along with other traffic, and my SD track log was uninterrupted. There is nothing recorded for my aircraft on Vector for that day although the flights is visible on FlightAware, so ADSB-out was working as it should.

Now it's possible as this was the first and only flight since my complete re-installation of the software on my Rosetta that I could have cocked up entering my hex-id, I can't check this until tomorrow, but I'm surprised not to have seen data for my ADSB-out transmissions.

Any clues?

I can’t say I understand the fault either.  :)

1) everything stopped working
2) a fresh reinstall of the software didn’t work - the box wouldn’t unpack the software
3) once I’d removed both dongles the box unpacked the software.
4) dongles reattached, box restarted and everything works fine.

You could try removing the dongles one at a time to see if you can get it to reload the software.  I'd start with the 1090 dongle.
Well, that seems to have done the trick! :) All now up and running again.

One thing worth pointing out - I made things more difficult for myself by renaming the spare SD cards I was using to PILOTAWARE1 and PILOTAWARE2 to help distinguish between the two. The box doesn't like this - reformatting and reinstalling on the original card, named RECOVERY, was what the box wanted to see.

Thanks to all for the help.

Thanks Lee.

I connected a monitor, and briefly got a PAW splash screen with what looked like a progress bar at a low state of completion, then things stopped and the screen blanked. I left it for several more minutes and nothing happened.

On checking the SD card, it had started unpacking the files, as there was more on it than after a fresh download. I've subsequently tried two different freshly formatted cards with clean downloads and I can't get the box to do anything now, even after removing and reseating the bridge.

On power up, it now consistently flashes the green LEDs by the power socket and on the GPS chip once, the bridge green LED flashes three times, and the red power LED stays on, but absolutely nothing happens.

I think you need a brand new SD card.
I've now reformatted the card and done a fresh reinstall. No change.

My Rosetta failed to start up for the first time today. Despite swapping power from panel power to Anker, unplugging and re-plugging the power lead several times, it had resolutely decided not to play.

I have it at home now, with covers off, and the situation is as follows:

- when powering up the red led next to the power socket remains red
- the green led on the GPS module will flash once on power up
- the green led adjacent to the red one may flash once, but not every time
- I once saw something else flash green three times
- juggling the micro USB plug doesn’t affect the red led
- applying pressure in different places to the Briidge board may cause the red led to blink off and come back on again.

I’ve unplugged and reseated the bridge to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Hi Ashley,

I've just tried again in a Private Browsing window, with caches emptied, with my adblocker both enabled and disabled. No difference - it works fine if the date select check boxes aren't displayed, but once they are both the 'Go' and Base Station/Rosetta controls are disabled.

You're not going to believe this, but I'm seeing exactly the same behaviour in Firefox as well!

Hi Ashley,

Further playing has revealed that the bug only presents itself when the date filter check boxes are displayed. Hiding them again by clicking the calendar icon brings the functionality back!

Can you see if that's the same for you?

I'm encountering an annoying bug in the Vector display when using Safari under MacOS.

The 'Go' button appears to disable itself after the first press, meaning I have to refresh the page and re-enter the ICAO ID every time I wish to change the transmission type filter.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Technical Support / Re: Incorrect GPS position sent to Trig TT22

Hmm. Still a bit confused here. I created that waypoint in SD using the text input format: N5038.9 W00111.1 and it puts it about 100m away. Is that the correct input format for SD for this co-ordinate? Really confusing these decimal degrees! Or is the ±100m a reasonable error?
Don't input the coordinates using the wheels; touch the 'Touch here to type them in' and SD shows you the varios formats it will accept - the default one shown is the one you need - just type in the digits you see on the Trig display in the format SD defaults to.

Hi David.

If you create a user waypoint in SD using the coordinates as shown on the Trig display above, it is depicted as just outside the hangar at Sandown airport. Is that what you’d expect?

The Trig display is already in degrees and decimal minutes, and not deg/min/sec format, so doesn’t need converting.

It’s probably worth pointing out that ‘maximise compatibility’ is a feature that was introduced with the iPhone 12, when the personal hotspot feature started using 5GHz wifi by default. You won’t see that setting on the PH menu for earlier phones as they only use 2.4GHz for the PH.
