Technical Support / Re: Waiting for device
« on: October 07, 2023, 04:01:09 pm »
Putting this out there as it's maybe worth a try and easy to do..

I was plagued with this issue on my previous tablet, a Lenovo device which I eventually  permanently solved with an 'off the wall' so to speak solution.

This was to create another user on the machine such as Guest (which you never have to use BTW) This can be done on the Samsung device from Settings / Accounts and Backup /Users / Add guest

How and why it worked I haven't a clue, but worked it certainly did!

The original post is here http://forum.pilotaware.com/index.php/topic,1091.msg16603.html#msg16603

My current device, a Samsung Tab A7 Lite SM-T220 (not a SM225 like the OPs) has never had the issue even without the Guest account and IGrid

Technical Support / Re: iGRID - Two devices required?

First flight using IGrid today, Andrewsfield out to the East, Clacton-Felixstowe and return. A regular route I do just for a bit of currency

First Impressions, A LOT more targets are visible, that's for sure  ;D

It should work with a fairly basic (and cheap) smart TV that has a browser function in the clubhouse!

UK Airprox Board report on an incident at Turweston in December last year.

https://www.airproxboard.org.uk/uploadedFiles/Content/Standard_content/Airprox_report_files/2020/Airprox%20Report%202020167.pdf

Quote
Turweston are lucky to be involved with the team at PilotAware and have worked with them to help
develop the Air Traffic Overview & Management (ATOM) system. This was the game changer on the
day as the AGO was able to observe the track of the military aircraft and it was obvious to them that it
would fly through or close to the airfield circuit. So they took the decision on safety grounds to make a
general broadcast to all traffic making them aware of the jet and its position/altitude and the fact that its
track may have put it into conflict, or at least surprise, the Turweston circuit traffic.

Obviously this will spark the debate (I'm thinking Flyer forum here ::) ) of whether the AGO should have done what he did in effectively pass traffic info but hey, he'll have had to live with the consequences  if he hadn't and things had worked out differently!

The UKAB have made it pretty clear to me though, that, in the circumstances, he did the right thing..

Quote
The Board first looked at the actions of the AGO. In providing an AGS, they were not required to provide
Traffic Information, other than to pass on known position reports from other pilots. Nevertheless, the
PilotAware ATOM provided the AGO with information that the Phenom was approaching from the north,
and the AGO broadcast this information to the circuit traffic. The Board commended the AGO for their
actions; although some advisors to the Board cautioned against the reliance on, and usage of,
unlicenced equipment and the lack of training thereof. Certainly, a CAA advisor was concerned that an
enthusiastic, but unqualified, AGO could potentially pass inaccurate information that then distracted a
pilot and that the lines between a controller using a calibrated radar and an enthusiast using a web
based program could become blurred; leading to potential confusion for pilots as to the type of service
being provided. This view was echoed by an MAA advisor who noted that such web-based programmes
could potentially have a lag of up to 7 minutes, meaning that it was not possible to know how accurate
the information was at any given time. Nevertheless, on this occasion, the actions of the AGO had cued
the RV9 pilot to look for, and see, the Phenom and the majority of members thought that it was a positive
result

I see the RV had a Skyecho, but seemingly didn't 'see' the Phenom with that!

OGN-R PilotAware / Re: ATOM GRID software enhancements

Another big thank you for the rain viewer page that has been added. Adds a gloss.

Useful to see in conjunction with the METARs.

Interesting, is that going to be uploadable to our airborne PAW too??

7
Thanks Peter

Ok, connected to an HDMI display and watched the boot process until it reached the PAW login screen..

Step 2 'Upload Firmware'  took around 45 seconds, then checking firmware, then  'complete'.   No change on PAW screen, still at Login prompt
Step 3 Load and  Reboot, click on 'OK ' No change on PAW screen, still at Login prompt. Left for 15 minutes, no change

Phone is a Huawei P30 Running on Android 10

Same result on my Lenovo Tab 3-8 running Android 6. Neither device has any 3rd party Firewall or Antivirus running or any VPN
Checked for updates in the PAW itself, expected result as per attached. No low volt or throttling errors.

I then flipped open the Rosetta cover and remembered I had a small USB memory stick in one of the ports that I use to occasionally sync all my Track files to.

Removed this and Hey Presto! The Update completed OK. Examined the Memory stick and there is no update file there.

So, there is a small bug of sorts in the updater or the instructions need to be amended to say remove any USB sticks from the device! ;)

Hi Peter

No, I press Step 3, 'Install and Reboot' and the 'install complete' message comes up almost immediately. Pressing 'ok' to then  initiate the reboot clears the box but the PAW doesn't reboot, it continues running normally!

9
I am Alan, yes.

The app comes up with my license information and currently installed /new versions on the Info page.

Its odd, I've tried it on 2 different devices, my Huawei Phone and Lenovo Tablet with the same result. It appears that its the Pilotaware that's acting strange!

10
I'm having some problems with this app.

All steps appear to go fine including downloading version 20201101 and step 3 (Install FW and restart PAW) which gives the 'Installation Complete, PAW will now restart' message. The PAW doesn't restart however, and even if I manually restart it, it remains on version 20200825

General Discussion / Re: Vector plots

Well, It certainly 'thinks' we have ADSB, ...or is this just the plain old Mode S transponder replies?  ..which ATOM is presumably using.

It certainly looks like it, as the deafness in the front two quadrants will match with the antenna being spattered with mud on takeoff!

Interesting that the max range is beaten by the PAW!

Hi Paul, good point, no we don't have ADSB out but I guess The ATOM is working off just the Mode S when it has a PAW to reference  ..can anyone enlighten?

Here's the PAW only plot, still a couple of plots touching almost 100KM! Clearly more like I would have expected being front mounted with 2 large bags of water on the front seats! You can almost see their shadow! ;D

Very impressive! and a great PR feature for PAW

Here's mine which is better than I was expecting. C172, Rosetta with antennas directly fixed, on suction mount so it sits just above the coaming on the RHS

Fantastic news!  Well done Keith   (and also Tim Dawson of Skydemon for the same)

Superb result for PilotAware too!

First test flight with the new software yesterday, the METARs look great. only problem was, no matter how many times I tried, I couldn't get the Bluetooth to connect (or even see) our comms panel.

Never had this problem before though it always was a clunky slow process. Has something changed?
