Hi lee,

Please i'm happy to try anything, I have two units although I think one is out of license because I just stopped using it.  Please drop me a line with anything I can do to assist. It certainly wasn't a rant but more what can we do to solve this.

The sudden stopping was after the disconnects, near controlled airspace, once i'd changed to location services I just turned the unit off.

Regards
Adam

Technical Support / Dropouts Persist Since Rosetta Upgrade Part 2
« on: May 30, 2020, 09:25:17 am »
HI Lee and Team,

I posted this some time ago. As you know I was an early adopter, but since the rosetta upgrade and more specifically the ground traffic update i've had such a poor user experience that i've pretty much resigned my second unit to the shed and my current unit is likely to end up the same.

http://forum.pilotaware.com/index.php/topic,1352.msg19128.html#msg19128

I fly around the southeast and specifically through the Gatwick / Heathrow / F'boro mess so reliable GPS is something I need.  My ipad never loses signal but when using my pilotaware I consistenly lose the signal and have to quickly change Skydemon to location services.  It's just far too unreliable.

I changed the UDP as you suggested Lee but this hasn't solved the problem.

I've been flying a PA28, the unit is sat ontop of the combing so direct view with the sky, and in both of the two last instances I was straight and level flight when I lost connection on my ipad.  I have tried using both USB connection to the aircraft and the anker battery pack and had the same results over a number of flights.

Clearly somethings wrong, unless other people are experiencing persistent connection issues then I guess its something hardware related.  Pre rosetta and ground traffic uplink the units were rock solid with no issues and I relied on them every flight.

I've attached yesterdays flight track, and the one before. I don't know if this is of any use to you.  It was fine for a period of time then just dropped out, rather annoyingly just as I was heading towards the F'boro CTA.

I just can't use the units reliably when flying around the TMA, the distraction is too great at the moment.

I appreciate any thoughts you may have and if you need any uploads from me, please let me know.  Hopefully this will help solve any potential issues for other users as I note theres a few other posts where people seem to be having similar problems.

Hi Lee,

Changed it as you suggested, still had a few issues today.  I've uploaded the three tracks and will PM you the links.  Something strange - it must be my setup but I cannot figure out why.

Todays aircraft was a PA28, the unit was sat flat on the panel, USB cable to the cigarette lighter USB socket.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for replying, i'll run it tomorrow, Skydemon wifi connection.

Reviewing the tracks they seem to finish before I turned the device off, i'll send those links tomorrow also.

Many thanks Lee

Hi Lee and team,

I've been experiencing a lot of dropouts since the rosetta upgrade.  The same leads, power source, but my ipad is regularly losing the connection.  The ipad is about half a meter from the unit.  The older one never dropped out, but since the upgrade and install of 20190621 its become almost useless flying around controlled airspace because of how unreliable its become losing the ipad.

It could be something i've done?  I've uploaded the last two flights to the replay website and all seem complete, is there a log file I can send over for your review?

Appreciate your help.

Technical Support / Re: Rosetta Module - Intermittent Traffic
« on: July 16, 2019, 05:00:35 pm »
The contacts that worried me were ADSB and PaW so I don’t think MLAT was in play, I don’t think the local stations are that great near me so the MLAT function isn’t too much concern for me right now

Hi Lee,

Upgrade done by myself, same as my classic unit. I may try and run them. Side by side next time I fly.

I was just surprised so I replayed the tracks to see what was happening. Compared to my old unit tracks the traffic seemed less solid.

As my setup is the same power and location, I was stumped for what it could be.

I’ll email the tracks this evening and the registrations of the aircraft that were ADSB ant PAw equipped which seemed to appear and disappear.

Technical Support / Rosetta Module - Intermittent Traffic
« on: July 15, 2019, 10:04:50 pm »
Hi all,

My first outing with the new rosetta module and software update yesterday - and I didn't feel as confident in its use so thought i'd ask what peoples experiences have been and also what could be making such a difference?

For background, the unit is mounted in exactly the same place and the settings are exactly the same with the addition of the 3D element.

What I found was traffic was extremely intermittent, compared to my old unit which showed items rock solid.  I've reviewed the track on aircrew.co.uk and you can see the traffic being very intermittent.

For example one aircraft which shows as Mode A/S/C and PAW equipped under 3 miles kept dropping off, yet on FR24 shows solid visibility against my track.  This made me very concerned because it drew my attention to the appearance and alerts then disappearing.

Equally on the return leg I had another aircraft under 2nm appear and disappear.  This one on aircrew.co.uk shows Mode A/S/C and ADSB.

I have the tracks and i'm happy to send them or anything else you guys need, but I think in the short term i'm going to use my old unit and old software version.

At no point did the connection to the iPad drop, and this is powered from a USB socket.

Do you have any thoughts on what this could be?

I hope you don't take this as an attack, I just felt confident with my old unit, but this just seemed so intermittent that I'd rather not use it at the moment.

Technical Support / RPI 3 upgrade
« on: May 30, 2019, 07:00:39 pm »
Sorry to ask a stupid question, with the forthcoming software upgrade - it's probably time to upgrade the pi in my unit.

Which version 3 is the correct one to get?  And Can I just switch my license over to the new unit using the inbuilt wifi?

Many thanks in advance

I have the standard one, but ideally need one about a metre long, any recommendations for a good quality power lead?

Thanks

Plus 1.

I’ve been having this problem of late, I found the temperature to be a factor.
