Technical Support / Re: Rosetta / Sky Demon / uAvionix AV-30 combo

Hi Chris Young
You will see from my previous post above I did ask Chris for feedback but have seen nothing further from him.
I can only refer you to my previous, previous post that confirms that PilotAware does indeed pass traffic info via GDL90 Protocol so providing the AV30 AV Link device can be configured to receive from the Paw wifi then I see no reason it should not work.

Confirmation or denial of this would be very useful.

Technical Support / Re: Anker recommended Power Supply... doesn't work
« on: December 04, 2023, 08:55:04 pm »
Hi, I seem to remember that some time ago these power banks became designated as "Smart" and caused similar problems to this.  i cannot remember what the final outcome of this was but I have a feeling it was something to do with the low pwer draw of the Paw unit that somehow fooled the powerbank into thinking nothing ws connected and switched itself off.

Hopefully someone with a better recollection of this will be along to shed some light.

Hi Chris

I see you liked my reply, could you advise whether you have had any success connecting your device.
It's always good to receive follow up on these queries for any future questions along the same lines.

Hi Chris
I know nothing about the uAvionics AV-30 but if you are able to point your AV-Link device at the usual 192.168.1.1 url of the pilotaware then it will most certainly pass GDL90 via the wifi.
Someone wiser than me will have to confirm if the AV-30 can use this info for traffic.

You should first log into the configure page of your pilotawar device to check the "Device Connect Setting" and ensure it is set to "All."     It may already be set to GDL90 and if it is you should not need to change anything.  I tend to use "PilotAware UDP" to feed my Tablet running EasyVFR4
The PilotAware device will support multiple devices via the WiFi.
Hope this helps, though someone more knowledgable may be along to contradict me.

Technical Support / Re: WiFi repeatedly connecting/disconnecting
« on: May 22, 2023, 10:35:04 am »
Hi Mat
Android has defo made  it harder to connect to a Wifi without internet connection.  I have experienced the same problem with my Android phone versus Android tablets.
I have F-Secure VPN on my phone and I can go into the settings for that and include the url/IP address for the Paw in the list of trusted sites and this lets me use the phone too.
Having said that, previous to using this method, the phone did not drop the Wifi connectio it simply refused to allow the Paw app to connect to it despite still showinf as connected to the Paw Wifi in the phone settings.  The same thing happened when trying to use the Update App.   Hope that helps.

Technical Support / Re: Pilotaware gps stops working

Hi David

use your tablet or laptop to log on to your Paw unit in the usual way and use the drop down "Go To" Menu to scroll down to the "Track Files", where you will see the track files listed in date order, (below a couple of Demo Tracks.)
Year-Month-Day-Time.trk followed by the file size.  Download the ones you are interested in.  Most are too large to post in the forum or email direct so as Iain says you have to either deposit them in "Dropbox" or similar and send a link to Lee, or possibly use something like WhatsApp to send it to Lee.

Hope that helps

Technical Support / Re: Dead PilotAware
« on: November 11, 2022, 08:09:23 pm »

Ah, Graham
From your answer to my suggestion I assumed you had succeeded after removing just the 1090 dongle.
If you removed them both at the same time it does not isolate which dongle may be the cause.  Having said that, I would still think that the 1090 is the most likely culprit, having had one fail in the past myself and anecdotally know of others.  Some do tend to run a little hotter than others which may have some bearing on their power draw.

Well done Graham, if you get a re-occurrence of this problem it is likely the 1090 dongle needs to be replaced.
(assuming that was the one you removed first and had the desired effect.)

You could try removing the dongles one at a time to see if you can get it to reload the software.  I'd start with the 1090 dongle.

Technical Support / Re: Incorrect GPS position sent to Trig TT22
« on: September 18, 2022, 03:27:06 pm »
Hi David
I use a trig TT21 linked to the Paw for GPS but for the life of me I cannot remember how many digits are displayed on the Controller Head to indicate lat & lon position but I don't think it's that many.  I think what is displayed is only to confirm that a recognised message format is being received and may not be accurate enough to register small movements around the airfield.  I would think that a short test flight in full ALT mode is required to satisfy yourself that all is well with your positional info.  As others have said, if SD is reporting accurate positional info then it is highly likely that the transponder will do likewise.

Hi David I would first be inclined to pull the RS232 cable out of your PAW and this should then cause the Trig to not display a position as it will not have a feed.  If it continues to hold those co-ordinates then I would bve inclined to give Trig a call.  You should find them extremely helpful.  If it clears the co-ordinates then re-plug the RS232 and fire it all up and see what you get.

Technical Support / Re: Split-screen display
« on: August 16, 2022, 08:57:24 pm »
Hi DerekJ

This used to be possible on my android tablets until a recent change to the Chrome browser.  I could slide the address bar out of sight but I find it no longer works on any web address that is only "http"  and not "https", even if the "http" part of the address is not displayed.  It appears this now fails some security test to allow the use of Full Screen.  I can't hide the address bar on the Atom Grid screens either now.

Hi
There is an option to clear the casshe for hotspots in the Paw Network settings.
Try this then only select the hotspot you want to use and input its password and then that should be the only option for the Paw to select and connect automatically.
That's the best I can offer, others may know more. :D

Hi
Just to note that although the power lead length can be significant if too long, even a short lead needs to be at least 20swg cross section to deliver the required power to the paw.  The power draw will be slightly increased by fitting the dongle and the Anker brick should be at least 2.5amp capable with nothing else powered from it at the same time as this will reduce the power available to anything plugged in.

Technical Support / Re: 3G/4G Dongle and iGRID
« on: June 17, 2022, 08:37:52 pm »
Hi Guys

we seem o be forgetting that Lee has now made the wifi much easier to accommodate syndicates with different phone hotspot SSIDs and passwords and maybe it is worth mentioning to Biker that each individual syndicate member would only have to input their hotspot SSID & password once and the Paw would automatically select it for future flights so long as you are out of range of any other wifi signals such as the local club/airfield wifi.
There is also the option for each syndicate member to reset their individual phone hotspot SSID & password to the same values.  Not a great security risk I would have thought but may be an inconvenience if you have other devices that you regularly link to your phone.
Neither of these solution obviously help anyone without a data provision on their phone.

Alan
