No. You get a verbal warning from SV, but nothing on the screen.

Hi all,

I fly with SV. You need to set the baud rate to the fastest common rate both PA and SV support. I can't remember off the top of my head what this is, but the problem described is exactly what I was experiencing when I first used them together. As soon as I'd upped the baud rate all was OK.

General Discussion / SOLVED - Connecting Pilot Aware to SkyView
« on: March 05, 2017, 05:53:04 pm »
Hi All,

Further to a question I received I thought I'd share the details of how I connected my Pilot Aware to my SkyView Touch.

To connect the Pilot Aware unit to the SkyView you'll need to source a USB to Serial cable. I used this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-to-Serial-Adapter-High-Quality-FTDI-CHIPSET-RS232-BT232-WIN-7-8-10-DB9-/151406431857?hash=item234086ce71:g:aWgAAOSwhlZYsbrR.

You will also need to solder TX and RX of one of an unused SkyView serial ports to an RS232 female connector. This is connected to the USB to RS232 cable above.

Configure the SkyView serial port connected to the USB cable in SERIAL PORT x SETUP, SERIAL IN DEVICE. I may have set it to GARMIN TIS TRAFFIC, but I can't remember at the moment. It may have been FLARM. Anyway, page 4-23 of the SkyView installation manual (v15.0) describes it (http://dynonavionics.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?action=downloadfile;file=SkyView_System_Installation_Guide-Rev_AA_v15_0.pdf). Configure the port to use 57600 baud.

Configure the USB port on the Pilot Aware to output FLARM traffic and set it to 57600 baud. All being well you should start to see the traffic symbols on the map and in the synthetic vision of the SkyView unit.

I tweaked the colours and some styles used on the SkyView maps to make them much easier to see. My post on the Dynon SV forum describes how to achieve it: http://dynonavionics.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1484509086

All the best.
Carl

The black diamond are not a threat.

Proximity advisories are clear diamonds (i.e. no black in the centre)

Yellow Traffic Advisory targets contain a number within them that represents how far away they are.

When a Traffic Advisory target is present, a yellow Traffic Alert Message appears on the PFD Page near the top and you get an audible message.

They're also displayed on the map view. See the attached screen shot.

Hi Folks.

Just thought I'd show you a screen shot taken from my Dynon SkyView with the PiB+ and ADSB only reception working like a charm. I had to set the comm port on the Pi and Dynon to 57600 otherwise the FLARM message processing kept failing. Once I made the change it was stable.

I've just ordered my Pi2B, so I'll hope to see Mode-S traffic too soon.

Keep up the brilliant work guys.

That should have read DHCP service rather than DHL service.

I've got 2 wifi dongles.  Both can be seen as pilot aware on my mobile device (android or ios) but neither seems connect.  The android one says 'obtaining IP' but never seems to manage it.  Any ideas?
best regards
Tom

I had the same problem. I had to manually set the IP I connected to the Pilot Aware wireless station as, e.g 192.168.1.10. Perhaps the DHL service is not configured. ?

Are there any log messages appearing on the console output ?

Thx
Lee

Hi.

Has anyone heard when they are likely to have more ARF transceivers in stock? I've ordered all the other parts tonight and I'm keen to join the party. Are there any alternatives?

Carl
