Technical Support / Re: 2x Rosetta both with same issues
« on: June 13, 2021, 07:53:25 am »
Hi Peter

Ok so flew with the original Rosetta yesterday for a couple of hours, all is now working as expected. Which validates my in aircraft power supply and cables, all PAW originals. Although I’ve ordered another 2 cables from the PAW parts department. This is using the Anker cigarette lighter adapter in the aircraft.
To turn to the newer unit, I use this one in training aircraft, I’m an FI. It also has the same Anker power adapter and original power lead and has been working perfectly since I received it a few months ago. The red led under the antenna socket is on when powered, the other unit has what appears to be a green led about half way down the left side of the unit which is not illuminated on this one. I tried it in my own aircraft using the same power supply and lead as the one I’d just successfully flown with and I could not get a WiFi signal.

OK, so following the advice from Peter, the newer unit is not providing a wifi signal at all. The LED on the left side of the unit is not lit as it would usually be. I think,  to use the technical term, "Had it".  Perhaps you could advise.

The original rosetta unit was out of licence, so I renewed that and after a loooooooong time up popped a wireless signal along with the LED on the left side. Logged in activated the licence and yes, the voltage is showing a fault and Throttling is taking place. I've tried it on everything from an ipad charger to a usb on my PC to a battery bank which is capable of starting my aircraft and can't make that go away. I am hoping that whenever the new power leads arrive from you that may be the issue, the connector looks a little worn.

Technical Support / 2x Rosetta both with same issues

I have an early Rosetta which after a few months stopped working reliably, wifi drop out, gps drop out etc. I replaced it recently with a new unit. Now the new one has exactly the same issues.
I'm using an Anker cigarette lighter adapter as specified and both units are using up to date firmware, another new Anker unit was put in place last week.
The symptoms usually occur about 5 minutes after startup, wifi is lost and can't re-establish or GPS signal drops out and won't re-establish.
I've ordered two new power cables for the units but advice is needed please.
Using with Skydemon on Iphone/Ipad

I’ve got a fairly big cockpit. It seems to work for size it’s 13” in tablet mode. I don’t mind a cable connection but I managed to get it connected and working via wireless for a good five mins. I managed to taxy to the hold do power checks before it bugged out. So there must be a connection and a path to making this work?
It doesn’t have 4g LTE it may need a dongle although most of the mobile solutions use a wireless mobile hub these days.

I was wondering if anyone is using a Windows PC setup while flying.

I have a convertible laptop which becomes a tablet. It runs Windows 10 and i'd like to use it with my Rosetta displaying traffic on Skydemon in the air. I have had a couple of very frustrating days trying to get it to work without much success.
Here's where I am:

First off, unless SkyDemon has an internet connection at the point it starts, it hangs while it's trying to download weather updates but it needs to be connected to the Pilot Aware so you can't put it in Offline until its started and connected to the internet (Via an Iphone with a Hotspot) to do it's startup downloads. Then you have to disconnect and Wifi to the Pilot Aware and put it into Offline Mode on SD at which point if for some reason it looses the connection and stops it needs to be online again. I can get into the Config though and see the radar screen on the pilot aware intranet.

I found that the SkyDemon "Connect to Pilot Aware" in the "Go Flying" menu does nothing.

I found an old post on this forum from someone else having similar issues in the days before PAW was supported in SD and the answer was to set it up as a Flarm with the appropriate IP and 6000 in the setup. I did this and indeed it does work and I can get into PAW and see the radar screen and when I connects to SD it works for about five minutes, gets a position and shows traffic. Then just stops, at which point SD hangs and you have to close SD and restart. PAW now won't reconnect but will connect to other devices such as my Iphone immediately.

Clearly this makes it impossible to use in the air. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with a PC tablet?

With the increasing number of Microsoft Surface tablets being sold and the HP 360 ranges selling more, I expect I'm not the only one experiencing this.

Technical Support / Re: Drop outs on bumpy runways

I see what you are saying, however it is about three months old and hasn't been removed from the socket since it was placed in the aircraft the other end is attached to the aircraft via an installed USB at 2.4 amps. Perhaps I have something faulty after all.

Thanks for the advice everyone, it’s a little disappointing to hear that this can happen in a new unit using the supplied power cable. However I’ll tighten the connection and see what happens. Thanks again.

Technical Support / Drop outs on bumpy runways
« on: November 23, 2018, 08:35:36 am »
I have a Rosetta which works fine most of the time. Whenever I take the grass runway option it seems to drop out and takes an age to go through the restart process. I can see all the lights through the casing so it isn't a power issue. I assume the only difference is the amount of bumping the grass surface provides. The unit is mounted on a suction mount on the windscreen. It has a flexible springy support which absorbs most of the shocks.

Any thoughts on why this is happening and any solutions?
