Technical Support / Re: Intermittent fault - PAW Classic

Hi Steve,  I did a 90 minute flight yesterday and no matter how many times I cycled the power I couldn't detect the wifi on either the ipad or iphone (remember I already swapped out the wifi dongle).   Then on the flight home it worked flawlessly.   Any more idea please?   Thanks, John

Steve,

I've done that and, while I haven't flown yet, on the ground it seems to have made a big improvement.    I'll get back to you if there are any further problems, but that might not be for a few weeks,  Thanks!   John

Technical Support / Intermittent fault - PAW Classic
« on: July 03, 2022, 08:24:43 pm »
Hi all,
I've had a classic PAW 'permanently' installed in my plane for about 5 years (external ADSB antenna etc).  For the last 6 weeks, since I renewed the licence, it has been working only intermittently.   Usually, but not always, the wifi comes on (restarting usually sorts that out however).   When the wifi signal is picked up by my phone/ipad, it connects to them only about 50% of the time.  Even when connected, it will disconnect, leaving Skydemon saying "Waiting for device".  Then maybe 5 or 10 minutes later it connects again.

I assumed it would be a power supply problem, but I seem to have exhausted the possibilities. I have tried: a) two different cigarette lighter sockets fed from two different circuits on the plane, b) two Anker UBS power adaptors, c) a 20,000 mAh Anker power bank and d) four cables (two of which are definitely up to the job) d) cleaned the contacts on the power socket as best I can.  I also updated the software.  I've even removed it from the plane and swapped out the wifi dongle, the GPS dongle and put on the original two small antennae.  Nothing made any difference.  I've been at it 6 hours.   I though maybe a big hammer might at least end the affair!

Has anyone got any ideas please?   Thanks,  John

Hi Peter,  Just to let you know that the EBAY replacement arrived today and I just tried it out in the hangar and it seems to work fine.   Thanks for the help,   John

Peter,  Thanks for going to such trouble to track one down.   I've just ordered on via that link and will let you know if it works.   John

Technical Support / Sourcing a new Wifi Dongle for Classic PAW
« on: August 06, 2021, 11:55:22 am »
Hi,  The wifi dongle for my Classic PAW packed in during a recent flight.   (It smells burnt out and a borrowed one from another installation works fine).

What spec do I need to order and where can I buy one please?   They don't seem to be available from the PAW store.   (I naively bought a couple of cheap ones off Ebay, but when I plug them in nothing happens, so there must be more to it than meets the eye).

Thanks, John

Technical Support / Licence for 2nd hand classic PAW
« on: May 09, 2021, 08:28:53 pm »
Hi,  I just bought a second classic PAW unit to go in my Cub.   The licence has expired and when I go pilotaware.lode.co.uk/renew.php to renew it and I enter the MAC number, the old owner's names and email address comes up and these are cannot be changed.  How do I buy a licence so that it is emailed to me please?

Thanks, John

Just to close this thread off.  Now I've been able to fly for a little while now, the 'ghost' aircraft has vanished.   I've no idea why; it's just been one of those things.  thanks to all who helped.  John

Thanks everyone, especially Peter, because I recognise exactly the process you went through!    I will chuck this back at Harry M to ask uAvionix  what I should expect to see on the ground.   I suspect HM are mistaken to say I should see a signal straight out the box.   You have all confirmed it's nothing to with PAW.  Thanks again,  John

Graham,  no there isn't.   There is a field  on the setup screen to insert the stall speed of the aircraft (so it knows whether it is on the ground or in the air), but Harry M's assure me it should be transmitting all the time.  I'm glad I bought it from them, they really are a first class outfit,  Thanks, John

Graham,

Yes, it the Skyecho is set to transmit, that was the first thing Harry M's checked.   Since this is the PAW forum, I wasn't going to commit the sin of uploading a Skyecho screenshot.    :)    Here is a further screenshot of the setup of the PAW in the RV.

thanks, John

Screen shot of the ground station, which can see the PAW in the RV but not the Skyecho in the Cub

Technical Support / PAW not seeing Skyecho

Hi,  I just bought a Skyecho and my PAW device isn't detecting it.  I would be grateful for an opinion on whether the problem lies with PAW or Skyecho please.

I have configured the Skyecho for a Cub (G-BRIL) and it definitely has the reg and HEX code for the Cub set up correctly (lots of screenshot and Whatapp videos with Harry M to confirm that).

The PAW in the RV in the hangar 10 yards away is not seeing the Skyecho (and the PAW is definitely not set up with the same HEX code/registration) .  The PAW is seeing an ATOM groundstation 50 yards away (as well as other traffic) and the groundstation is seeing the PAW in the RV.   Both aircraft have really good GPS signals becuase the hangar roof is cement asbestos.  Please can you guys look at the screenshots from the PAW and tell me if anything is wrong?

Also, the ground station is not seeing the Skyecho either.   So, I'm pretty sure this is a Skyecho issue, but I want to double check with you guys first please before I return it to Harry M.

Thanks, John
