General Discussion / Re: Different aircraft profiles / license expiry
« on: April 17, 2023, 04:13:35 pm »
The license key IS held in each profile - I mailed Lee (I think) about this a while ago...

I spotted the same thing when changing profiles after updating the yearly license - trouble is I have over 30 profiles and each one needs updating with the new key when its first used again ...

I think the router settings are stored in the profile too

I power one of mine through the pins on the bridge .. the USB socket on the Pi is a weak spot, even with a guard installed to protect it ...

Try enabling the extended support (for older devices) on the hot spot page ..

I tend to enable my hotspot from control centre when I power the aircraft up, and PAW connects normally .. It's an Apple 'feature'

I'd go with

1 GPS - 2 SDR
3 FLARM - 4 Wifi

Technical Support / Aircraft Profiles
« on: August 01, 2022, 11:08:07 pm »
This may be one for Lee ...

I fly a fair number of different aircraft with a carry on PAW

All's fine in general, but (and as it's nearly license renewal time ...) the license key seems to be stored in the profile for each aircraft (as do the router settings too....

When I update the license key (and save) it's only stored for the aircraft that was in use ... switching profiles requires the key to be updated (and saved again).

Not really a problem for a couple of profiles, but I have around 30 setup .... (I've gradually updated them for the current key once I worked out what was going on, but like I mentioned, its renewal time shortly ...)

Would it be possible to have the license key applied to all profiles when it's updated - no idea on whats required for this (and possibly the iGrid router settings too)

Apologies if this has been mentioned before and is WIP ...

Cheers
Sean

Technical Support / Re: WiFi Dongle stops tablet connecting with PAW

First thing I'd do is change the Wireless channel to auto, and see if it connects then ...

The heat is a mystery ...

Try going into settings, personal hotspot on the iphone and wait there - it'll probably connect

Not sure of the "why", but mine has done this now and then, and being on the hotspot screen on the phone seems to "make" it connect - sorry, but I have no explanation as to why!!

Most of the time it connects straight away - it's probably something to do with the other wifi signals in the area local to the PAW

Technical Support / Re: IGrid and phone reception

I spend most of my time low ( sub 2000') and slow ( <120 kts) and pretty much most of the time there is mobile reception, and its fairly good too.

I'm up and down the country a lot, and from the Scottish borders down its similar - I was pleasantly suprised that it worked well round Snowdonia too ..

I'll keep tabs on reception for a while ... but using iGrid hasn't been problematic at all so far ..

Technical Support / Re: Audio over HDMI

Thanks Lee

I've got a HDMI -> VGA/3.5mm audio dongle so I can pick up the audio from there - hopefully with a cleaner signal, and there into the headset or intercom

In theory, its just a line or two in rasp-config (a super-nice to have would be a tick box on the PAW config page ..!!)

The Ground Loop isolator arrived, and has quietened the noise right down - the downside is that it's attenuated the signal some - it's not too quiet, but it could be a little louder

If there's anything from Lee on the HDMI output then that may help with a cleaner signal ..!

Ideally I'd not like to add an mixer as it's one extra thing to add to the mix of bits!!

Hi Peter

It's been very busy for quite a while, and whilst I've been lurking, I've not been actively posting, but I still use (and promote) the PAAW on a daily basis ...

The noise in question is from the Pi by the looks of things, and I do have a suitable adapter to get analog audio from the HDMI output ..

Setup is as follows ... (its in a Turbine Heil, so no Mags or alternator, just the generator ...)

12v outlet to a Anker USB power strip. Juice Bitz 50cm cable (correct gauge) to the PAW, with ferrite ring.

Nothing else hooked into the other 4 USB outputs on the Anker ..

Good quality 3.5mm cable (with ferrite) to Bose A20's - its a semi permanent install, and I use Bluetooth on the other portable unit I have.

The noise *sounds* Pi related and doesn't follow any changes to engine speed or generator output - its persistent with a battery pack too ...

I've ordered a ground loop isolator and will try, but figured the HDMI output would be a neater solution if the audio was / could be (its a config change) piped to it ...

I'm in the offending aircraft tomorrow and will try the isolator and report back RE the levels - I do have a little 12v audio mixer that could also be tried

Cheers

Technical Support / Audio over HDMI

Quick one...

(and long time no posts, but been reading frequently ...)

Is (or can it be) the audio output enabled over the HDMI socket ..

Just looking at possible ways of getting a cleaner output from the PAW unit - its quite noisy using the 3.5mm jack

Thanks

PS - great work on the iGrid stuff - its working like a charm ...

Technical Support / Re: Bluetooth Audio
« on: December 03, 2020, 05:52:29 pm »
The Bluetooth isn't persistent, and will forget your device after powering off ..

It should connect reasonably quickly once you hit the connect button (they do all light up thou....)

Which headset are you using ..? I find its ok with my A20's (later model), but now and then do have to scan twice to pick them up …

I did save the URL that the connection button produces (as a shortcut on the ipad, but you need to be quick to get it to copy) and do use that now and then - saves hitting the wrong button after the scan ...

Get one direct from Juicebitz … you know it'll work !! (plus they do the right angled connectors too !!)

OGN-R PilotAware / Re: OGN-R 20191101 Not auto installing onto 20191008
« on: November 07, 2019, 10:09:05 am »
I just thought I'd check, and one of my OGN setups is stuck on 20191008 too...

Seems to be dropping of the network every night as well …

Let me know if you need anything checking / testing …

Cheers
