Technical Support / Re: After software download - select 'install'?

Yes - posted that I still did not see the Install activated. Then finally it worked. Not sure I did anything different on the fourth time, but all installed and rebooted to check everything is OK. Thanks for your help. Now to go flying again.

Exfirepro/Peter - Brilliant. Going to try this. In which case page 38/39 should say ...

"After 20 minutes, you need to power down your PAW and remove the Ethernet Cable, THEN refit the dongles and power it back up. Connect to the PilotAware WiFi from your tablet or whatever once it appears. Log in to PilotAware from your Browser using the URL (address) 192.168.1.1, which should take you to your PilotAware's Home Screen. Select the 'Updates' Tab along the top. You should now see a 'live' 'Install' button, with 'PilotAware Version 20180129' next to it. Click on this button and wait for the install to finish".

I think this needs to be made clear in the instruction manual as it is a whole lot of steps that are missing. "Select install" is completely inadequate.

Many Thanks, Roger.

Technical Support / After software download - select 'install'?
« on: February 19, 2018, 04:00:04 pm »
I quote from page 38/39 of the instructions for software update ...

"After 20 minutes the latest software changes will have been downloaded to the Pi but the download now needs to be implemented. This is done by selecting Install."

How do I select 'Install'? After the 20 minutes is up, my PAW is sitting there plugged into power and RJ45 with no dongles etc as per instructions. So I cannot see how or where I can 'select Install'? I cannot connect to the configuration page because the WiFi dongle has been removed as per instructions to do the update.

Is there a step missing or something after the 20mins for download?

Thanks

Technical Support / Re: PAW issues with SD on Nexus 7
« on: July 28, 2017, 12:35:03 pm »
I used to suffer from the 'disconnection problems' between SD and PAW on Lenovo Android Tablet. The real pain was that when this disconnection happened and I looked down at my tablet - I had to click 'Go Flying' again on SD and get the whole thing running again by choosing FLARM and waiting for the connection. This also meant I lost the log of the flight for the whole time I was 'disconnected' which might have been several minutes and ended up with severla log files for one flight - a real pain. With the new versions of SD and PAW installed, I now use the SD option to connect to PAW (instead of the old FLARM option). The huge difference now is that although I still have the occasional 'disconnect', it now manifests itself in a totally different way. The 'connection' might be briefly lost but it automatically gets connected again and within a second or so, so I don't have to take any actions. To all intents and purposes I am now 'connected' the whole time with just a brief loss of the little plane icon on SD and a virtually continuous log of my flight and without me having to intervene.

General Discussion / Re: New release-20170619

I had reached the point of frustration with lost connections between PAW and SD (previously reported/discussed on these forums but not solved) that I had given up using PAW. However as of today I have the latest version of SD and the latest software on PAW. This now allows me to select PAW in SD as my GPS source (previously I had to use FLARM). I have been testing the connection at home on two Android tablets and provide a link to a video of the result (see below and notice the "waiting for device" message on the larger tablet at the 5 second mark)). The cheap 7" tablet has no problems, but the more expensive 8" has random and intermittent messages "waiting for device".

However the big change and huge improvement is that SD does not drop out of "flying mode" and just waits until the message clears and then carries on.

I have tried various PAW wifi settings without noticeable difference. So although there is a huge improvement in useability of PAW with SD I am at a loss as to why the cheap tablet ploughs along happily, whilst the expensive (Lenovo Tab3 8" Android 6) one keeps stopping with the "waiting for device" message.

Any help much appreciated as it would be nice to get this resolved for everyone affected.

Technical Support / Re: Ipad losing connection to PAW

Paul - I flew today for 1 hour and lost connection just the once when I was only a few minutes into the flight. So for more that 45 minutes it then remained connected OK. My Android tablet is on my right knee and PAW is up on the coaming - this little video shows quite clearly where I have mounted PAW and you can just see my left knee as well -

If you suggest I try different WiFi settings for PAW, please could you suggest what I should try?

(Please note I use the recommended lighter plug and cable for my PAW Classic)

Many thanks. Roger.

I have a very straightforward setup. Lenovo Tab 3 8inch Android tablet running SkyDemon connected to PAW. Every time I fly at some point I will look down at my tablet to find the 'lost connection to GPS' message. This happens apparently completely at random, sometimes with tens of minutes between problems, sometimes within  just a minute or so. Each time I see this message I just tap 'Go Flying' on SD and 'use FLARM' and almost immediately I am connected and back running OK. So PAW is not rebooting etc as it is too quick to reconnect for that and it never has to report 'searching for satellites' either. It appears just to be a simple loss of connection between SD and PAW. However it is very frustrating and I am therefore using PAW less and less and also reluctant to recommend to any fellow pilots. This is such a shame as I would like to have a stable and reliable setup for PAW and SD. Please advise.

Technical Support / Re: Audio Testing
« on: February 17, 2017, 04:56:27 pm »
Paul and Allan - My audio is usually perfect with no noise even with PAW installed in the C42. However, for the first time today I plugged an audio lead between PAW and my Bose A20. The video I recorded today illustrates the noise I am now getting on my headset. The minute the comms kicks in the Bose overrides the PAW audio and there is no noise or interference. Do you guys believe that the little device you have identified will get rid of this noise if I plug it into the audio connection between PAW and my Bose? Thanks....video is at https://youtu.be/OP0cq9J8Oew

Technical Support / Re: Mode C and S detection - SkyDemon oddity...or not

I am new to PAW - in this thread there is mention of setting the "detection range" in PAW. How do I access this (and other?) settings? Thanks.
