Sure Lee - I am going to keep it up for a couple of days, recharging the battery each time. I'll update in a while

Robert

Well .....
I am not totally convinced, I would not expect the WiFi to be affected by the bridge.
Could you 'soak test' for longer so we can be convinced ?

Thx
Lee

Well this is a turn-up.

I removed the SD card in order to return the unit and as I did so, it dropped back through the slot into the body of the unit - what a clutz I am.

So I took the screws out and found the card. Looked at the unit and thought the bridge was not fully plugged in to the m/b;  took them apart and fitted them together again. Put the unit together and thought I may as well try it out before returning.

Lo and behold (and any other expletives you find appropriate) it is as solid as a rock. The battery pack ran out last night without dropping the signal and after recharging, it has been up for nearly 6 hours this morning.

Happy days. Thanks again to Lee for putting up with my grumbles.

Robert

Hi Lee,

It doesn't look like anyone else is having the same problems I have, so I suspect you may be right.  Happy to swap the unit out.

Best

Come on guys, give me a clue ...

I have spent countless £££ on power supplies and bricks. I have just spent more money on a replacement wifi dongle. I read this http://forum.pilotaware.com/index.php/topic,986.0.html post and bought a usb extension as the ADS-B dongle certainly seemed to get hot.

All to no avail - I have a PAW system that will fire up and last about as far as taxiing to the end of the runway and then becomes just added weight to the airplane as I furiously reconfigure my GPS to use a reliable source.

What do you need by way of logs that will help us through this?

Hi guys,

I have been trying for the best part of 9 months; now to make my unit work robustly and consistently. Understand the power requirements and just purchased an Anker PowerCore 13000 which is supposed to supply 3amps. I purchased the built unit from you last year and have updated the firmware consistently - on current verison as of now.

The issue is that the wifi signal drops out after a random amount of time - on the Anker this morning it was running fine for a couple of hours and dropped, so I rebooted and it dropped after only a few minutes. Could this be a wofo dongle issue?

Here is this morning's log file, following the first reboot:

Hi Lee,

Did you receive the faulty dongle and check it through?

Kind regds

Update: received replacement wifi dongle and all ok now. I did swap the dongles back and forward a couple of times using the same power supplies and the original never lasted beyond 15 minutes. The replacement works happily up to 5 hours.

Thanks for all your help.

Let me be very clear -  if I cannot get this piece of kit working under controlled circumstances in my house,  I am Not about to put it in my airplane.

Your instructions say it needs 2A power supply and I have now tried with 3 supplies all rated at 2A or above.  All have generated the same results.  My car supply equally "failed".

So either the requirements are too sensitive - in which case 2A should not be the minimum - or the wifi dongle is at fault.  I'm happy to try another dongle.  Not happy to try yet another power supply.

Your call

Hi Lee,

I had tried a couple of power supplies (including the car), but tried once more with my new Finsix Dart (you need to get one of these if you travel a lot), This provides a stable 2.1A USB source and the PAW lasted about 10 mins this time.

As it sits at the moment, I cannot connect to wifi, but the PAW is showing a solid Red led and a blinking Green. I do not think it is a power issue and of the only other option is a faulty wifi dongle, I'll go with that.

I won't be at Flyer Live, unfortunately - what with the social calendar around Christmas and the move out of Birmingham I can't really spare the time (plus a 300-mile round trip). I hope the show is great for you (I used to do trade shows, so my heart goes out to you!)

If you can send through an alternate dongle, that would be great.

With kind regds

Robert

Hi Lee,

I had already tried mode g thinking the same thing (see the extract above), so swapped back to mode B and tried again.  Wifi dropped sometime between 20 and 25 mins.

No I cannot reconnect. The wifi service does not reappear on any device I have to hand (2 x HP laptops, a Samsung S6 + both the others already described). I did leave the PAW on for several hours this afternoon to see if it would, but nothing.

And I'm not going to apologize - unless the kids are back home there are NO Apple devices in my house !! - and if I have to buy an expensive bit of kit in order to connect to an inexpensive one, I'd have to reconsider my options ...

Best

Robert

Hi,

Today I am working from home with PAW placed in good location with satellites visible. Using power supply with 2A output and supplied cable. However I had exactly the same experience in the car driving the other day.

From startup, the wifi is visible and connectable from any of my devices - I am using both LG Gpad and my phone (OnePlus X)
  • device connects well. login to 192.168.1.1 and see home screen
  • fire up EasyVFR. GPS/Flarm titles both visible - all operating normally
  • some minutes later the GPS/Flarm titles disappear
  • exit EasyVFR and check wifi connection; it is lost and PAW wifi does not appear on list of available servers

That is it really. Hooking the PAW up to monitor shows the unit operating and no error messages.

The wifi dongle seems quite hot, but I have nothing to compare it with.

Thanks

Robert

Hi,

I am having a similar problem in that the wifi drops out after about 10-15 mins. Connecting monitor after the problem occured provided the following output:

Quote
Starting very small Busybox based DHCP server: Starting /usr/sbin/udhcpd...
udhcpd
### Wifi ssid=Pilotaware-B827EB90725
### Wifi mode=g
### Wifi channel=9
### Wifi txpower=100mW
### setwifi end ###
Interface eth0 Error - force to static
ifdown: interface eth0 not configure

I checked this as the wifi was up and there are no further messages once the wifi dropped off

Thanks

Technical Support / Re: Lost GPS signal in flight

Hi all,

Saw this note below - is this a correct setting for EasyVFR? If you set the option to "Off" I thought that EVFR would then use the internal GPS?

However, talking with Rob at EasyVFR it seems that there ahs been some "pilot error" on my part - EasyVFR (Android version) has an option "Allow use of external GPS" and I had had that set to "On", as the PAW GPS is clearly "external" to the tablet running EasyVFR. However, Rob advised that I should leave that function set to "Off" for using the  PAW GPS as the source. So, thanks to Rob's excellent help, I have since flown again with it "Off" and had an excellent GPS input through the flight on the Android tablet.

15
Thanks both for input.

Tried again today on the way to the airfield. Obtained GPS fix and as Alan mentioned, it seems to work ok if you just ignore the message. EasyVFR reports "GPS fix" and the FLARM note is there (in grey, rather than green?).

Didn't try it out in anger as I want to play a bit more, but thanks for the help.

One final point - I did note that the wifi dropped out if I didn't have EasyVFR connected (seemed to be stable once everything was working and I had EVFR operational). Is that normal, or did I have a random error?

Cheers

Robert
