Technical Support / Re: PAW Crash after takeoff

I had seen the 'waiting for device' message appearing on my cheap Lenovo android device every few seconds and suspected it was a power problem based on messages in this Forum.

I replaced the battery pack and USB power cable.

The problem did not go away.

I then increased the PAW WIFI power to 100mW and the problem was solved.

The 'waiting for device' messages stopped and I was able to use the device.

Peter

I tried that, but it did not work. I suspect that the system blocked me as I had previously been issued with a software key before I got the Bridge.

I have installed the bridge and as far as I can tell, the software in working. I have not had a chance to test it outside of the Heathrow TMA, so have not yet seen any mode c or s aircraft.

I am still using a demo software key and would appreciate a on-demo key...

Best regards

Chris

Hi

Does the mode-c functionality need the bridge?

Kind regards

Hi

Realised that I could get a demo software key using my work email address, which I confess I have done!

Attached are screen shots:

(a) HOME: showing Model B Pi 2, (which is a v1.2). I do not have the 3PI radio, which is why I have a TRX RED flag. I set the pressure altitude manually, hence the RED flag there.

(b) CONFIGURE: the page does not show any of the options available on the Pi2B version. Is this because I do not have the 3PI radio?

Kind regards

Chris

Email received thanks. Have successfully installed the software as far as I can tell.

My HOSTID has changed, so no further progress possible until I receive a new software key. I have already requested a new key and sent a copy of the email with my previous software key with the request.

Rgds

Have checked the hardware. It is a model 1.2. Using CPUINFO I saw that the revision number is a22042, confirming that it is V1.2

I had no idea that there were two versions of RPI 2 and there is no indication that it is model 1.2 on the Amazon site from which I ordered it...

I would be happy to help with any testing of the new version....

Hi

Have just tried to upgrade to an RPI 2 and have only been getting the "Rainbow" screen when I turn the device on. The RED power light is on and the Green light flashes (5 slow and then ? 5 fast flashes). I followed the PAW install instructions to the letter and tried several times with the same result.

The mini SD card worked fine (SanDisk Ultra 8gb) on my old RPI and works fine when I copied a Raspbian img file to the card. This booted Raspian without problems. This means (I think) the there is nothing wrong with the RPI 2 and that the RPI 2 SD card reader works. Would it be possible for me to load PAW manually?

Or is there something else I could try?

Best regards

Chris

Would an aluminum case for the Rpi help?

On the SkyDemon forum there is a post that warns:

"You need to be careful using those 'TV tuner' dongles in the air. They use a local oscillator in the tuner and spit out masses of RF interference spanning from VHF frequencies up past 1.5GHz (GPS) and beyond. One I tried knocked out a GPS receiver from half a metre away. Not good..."

Not being a techie I have no idea what this means and it certainly does not reflect anything I have seen while flying with a RPI with PIAWARE with both GPS and ADS-B USB dongles...can anyone throw light on what the author is saying?

I will be more specific! I have a GPS USB dongle on my RPI, which runs PAW. This is the only GPS source on my IPAD mini. My understanding is that Collision Aware feeds GPS and ADS-B data from my RPI to Sky Demon.

I have also tried the NMEA GPS app, using the settings recommended on this thread. All I get in the spinning IOS icon telling me it is waiting for something, but SkyDemon does show little white planes and my location anyway. I am new to all of this and will now go back to the documentation to see what I have missed...

I also have a Dual GPS which I could use instead of the USB GPS, but have not yet worked out how to make that work with PAW and Sky Demon.

Lee

I do use a GPS dongle as recommended. My IPad mini is WIFI only and does not have a GPS chip.

Best regards
