Thank you very much for this post. I managed to setup my IFD 540 and PilotAware first time, based on your instructions.

Paul, just the PilotAware - the Kitfox is a bit minimalist when it comes to equipment. I did wonder if it was some sort of reflected signal as the unit was in a temporary housing tucked up on the cargo cover behind my head. I've downloaded the logs, but haven't run them through the viewing app yet.

Peter, I did wonder if it was Keith, but the chaps up at Perth said that he wasn't returning until the Monday.

Thanks, will do.

It was close, as in a few hundred metres, and I wondered if it was somebody testing their unit from the relative safety of approaching from behind to minimise the closing speed.

Technical Support / East Fortune contact on Sunday. Real or phantom?
« on: September 07, 2016, 10:43:47 pm »
I finally got around to testing my Pilot Aware in the air on Sunday (4th Sept) evening over East Lothian. At 1500ft approaching Tantallon Castle from the South I had a close contact showing on the same level in the 7 o'clock position. The contact had a numeric ID of something like "51430" on SkyDemon, but I didn't screenshot it and I was focused on making sure I didn't hit it so migh have picked that up wrong. I initiated a wide turn as I didn't want to turn on to a collision course and it suddenly vanished from SD. I couldn't see an aircraft, but it would have been passing behind me so that's no surprise.

I was just wondering if this was someone else trying out the unit (in which case I would like to fly again with them to see it in action) or a phantom contact. Anyone on here got any idea what it was that I saw?

General Discussion / Re: SkyDemon for PC - vertical separation settings

That worked thanks. It took a few goes as the menus are a little fiddly on a 7" tablet and the PC version gives you no indication that it is/has loading settings, but I'm now watching the EasyJet flight to Aberdeen flying overhead.  :)

Thanks Lee, I did search, but can't have been as thorough as I should have been. I will look again.

General Discussion / SkyDemon for PC - vertical separation settings
« on: November 01, 2015, 10:54:58 am »
Hi, after a couple of false starts I have Pilot Aware running and I'm very impressed and wish to evangelise at my local strut about it.

I'm using SkyDemon for PC on a 7" Windows 8.1 tablet (HP Stream 7, $99!). No GPS or anything on the tablet itself and the PAW makes it very usable, particularly as the screen is bright enough to read in bright daylight. I'm sitting watching it showing our local Microlight instructor buzz round the local area squawking 7000 as they go.

So my question is that on my iPad version of SkyDemon I can set the vertical separation limits under "Settings> Navigation Options > Other Traffic > Show Within Vertically" and see all the scheduled traffic. Does anyone know where I can find this option within the PC version so that I can demonstrate this at my local strut meeting tomorrow night when there is no GA flying?
