Hi Steve

I guess with SafeSky it’s a case of you “get what you pay for”

At the airstrip at the moment.

Can view him on the OGN
Can view him on the SafeSky App
Cannot view him on the Atom station radar

I too I’m thinking it’s for SafeSky to resolve. But meantime it’s frustrating not being able to spot his tiny microlight.

We see all the others including Flarm and Fanet+

Technical Support / Position data not shared

Hi Guys

Every aircraft at EGCA airstrip has conspicuity of some kind that is captured our Atom station PWEGCA and relayed to all. Sadly the pilot using SafeSky has become invisible in the last few weeks.

I have had Simon’s permission to forward his email trail to this group. Essentially after emails and telephone calls to SafeSky he is at a point whereby SafeSky don’t know why the information isn’t interfacing into the OGN and thus the Atom connected network. His aircraft has a tiny profile. Would be great to see him on PAW.

Many thanks

Bob

PS He is on a tight budget, as are many SkySafe users, so buying a PAW is a stretch for him.

Hi Bob I last flew 20.7.24 @ 14.49 - 15.03 staying local to the atom station @ pwegca and the nearby cellular mast. Nobody on the ground viewing my aircraft via the atom station or those in the air could see my aircraft on their conspicuity device. As you know you used to see my aircraft when relaid through your atom station for the benefit of all . SafeSky have now spent hours trying to fix the problem. Do you know anybody at pilot aware that could help.
G-MZGA hex code 403D19, desperate to be seen, thanks.

Hi Tristan

I flew again yesterday and had the same problem. A club member checked again as before and had no signal on PAW or OGN. I’m using the same device as previously that worked and gave a good signal, thanks Si.

Hello Simon,

   Thanks for your message.

We just did a round check with the OGN team, everything should be working as normal.

Note that only SafeSky AIRBORNE traffic is shared with OGN, if you are testing from the ground, your position will appear in SafeSky live, but not on OGN.

Then the last link is OGN to PilotAware. They are normally reading from OGN to filter and publish SafeSky traffic. I am not currently able to validate this link.

   Please keep me posted :-)

   Fly Safe,

Tristan

Hi, a fellow pilot noticed that my positional data was not being given out to pilot aware station at our airfield, upon checking my device we noticed that my position was given out to SafeSky but nothing else. I have provided you with ogn data that doesn’t show my position and neither does our paw station at the airfield, thanks.

The excellent track file Pilotaware playback is not functional after upload of a file. Have successfully used the object previously. Does it perhaps need a reboot ? https://playback.pilotaware.com/playback/

Technical Support / Re: Weather latency
« on: June 03, 2024, 06:58:59 pm »
Hi Lee. Thankyou!

Hi Graham. Yes, the weather arrives via the cellular network & the Rosetta dongle (iGRID WiFi Connectivity Module). The dongle is the best £15 you are likely to ever spend. Negligible impact on my roaming charge, active all the time. Worked surprisingly well at 6000 feet. Can’t really comment on higher levels. All our flying was under VFR. Caution in Macedonia the cellular reception for all our flights UK telephones was haphazard both in the air and on the ground.

Hope you find the information useful.

Technical Support / Weather latency SOLVED
« on: May 30, 2024, 09:15:16 am »
Just back from a super trip flying around the Balkans. A Europa Club trip. Nine aircraft: Croatia, Albania, Macedonia, Hungary. All fabulous. The Pilotaware Rosettas worked well. The PAW weather feature really proved itself. I could make informed decisions to avoid the active thunderstorm in the region. So reliable did it prove that I would like to know more about the “radar” latency. In the cockpit the weather “radar” exactly matched what my eyes were telling me was likely on the horizon. I realise that as you get closer to the cells  the latency becomes increasingly significant factor. My perception was that the “radar” appeared to give a result similar to real time! In the Balkan region the forecasts had foretold thunderstorms with a 30% or 40% probability each day. Having this extra tool in the arsenal helped us make the most informed choice. Question: From the viewpoint of the Pilotaware team. What is the latency of the weather information. Question: Does the latency of the information change depending on the region you fly in because the refresh rate is greater?

Fly safe :)

Technical Support / Vector analysis keeps getting better and more detailed?
« on: February 21, 2024, 11:57:14 am »
Every year I measure to check improvement or degradation over a period of time. Normally this has been in respect of antenna position. I’m really happy with the results for my aircraft as you can see.

In the Pilotaware Vector training information and video the more recent enhancement of the ability to see RX Direction (Bases or Rosetta) potentially enables further fine tuning to be made. Though again, I think I’m doing well on that point too.

Using the Vector analysis tool I can breakdown the reception of signals. Several aircraft at our airfield rely on Fanet + and one SkySafe cellular. Clearly I receive data from the Fanet + via an uplift from the data captured by the airfield’s Atom Station and relayed through P3i. And in the case of the SkySafe cellular through the cloud and relayed by the Atom Station or direct via the cellular network using my phone and the Pilotaware WiFi module dongle.

My question is. Is it possible to breakout these derived inputs in the same way you isolate CAP 1391 and PAW inputs and thence display on the Vector analysis?

@ Lee. Amazingly rapid roll out. Three days from request to implementation. Tell me any other platform that could do that so efficiently. Answer;

Nobody does it better than the Pilotaware team!

Hi Peter

Here is the actual source data for the Nano microlight that displayed on the glider network, but not displayed contemporaneously on my Atom. Hope it helps understanding. Thanks for your great work too. It would be amazing if these rather basic SafeSky conspicuity devices could be seen by PAW equipped aircraft. Fingers crossed that Lee can work his magic.

Regards

Bob

Thanks Lee.  Your statement relating to signal reception understood.

So, to this point my understanding had been that when a SkySafe device is in communication with the cellular network it’s data was ultimately relayed to the glider OGN network. Consequently my assumption was the SkySafe data would de facto also be seen on on the ATOM station display receiving OGN from broadband. Furthermore be uploaded through the network and then the ATOM station or cellular to the Rosetta. Correct?

Or does a Pilotaware Rosetta never see SkySafe data because it isn’t shared?

Thanks for all you do. What a superb product our PAW Rosetta is. Just back from ten days touring Scandinavia. The weather display was extremely helpful!

I should add the Vector analysis on his SafeSky Device ID 64038E didn’t reveal anything
