Alan, thank you for explaining that the documentation is now only available online, and that no downloadable version will be forthcoming.  Let us hope that the Update via USB option will be documented there, under Manual Update, but distinguishing between that and the full install.

Thanks, I will give that a go.

I can't use the updater app because it won't run on anything pre iOS 15.

Might it be possible to include the update via USB instructions directly in the 20220101 Operating Instructions, please?

I want to upgrade to 20220101 using a USB memory stick.  The URL https://pilotaware.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/180529-Software-upgrade-by-Flash-Memorystick..
pdf in the 20200906 manual no longer leads to the instructions. The Knowlege Base does not contain details for update via USB.  Please fix the link, or post the instructions. Also, where can I find the full Operating Instructions PDF for 20220101?

My first impression is good.  I have a couple of suggestions, on the Introduction tab, the graphics for the aircraft are a bit too small, especially the only important type (3-axis microlight ).  And maybe the list of "What you need to get started" should be a bit less alarming for non-tech types, with more emphasis on the pre-built unit, with a pointer to the fact that DIY is possible.

The underlying RF chipset used in the Bridge does have support for antenna diversity, although the module currently used doesn't itself support it.

You can't really just hook up two antenna directly, as you would need to disconnect one when the bridge transmits.

JC, that is very interesting. Please could you elaborate as to why it is not possible to TX to two antennae. Is it phasing?

Thanks Lee, that's very encouraging. I was under the misapprehension that the transmissions were tied to the bridge transceiver in some way, it's good to know that in principle an SDR could be used. I don't have the skills either, and I am resisting the urge to gain them   I would rather be flying.

Ouch.  My home made PAW has nuts on the SMA connector, either side of the plastic end piece, lock-nut fashion, to try to protect the soldered connection with the PCB.  Is the shop-bought PAW built like this?

I am idly curious as well. I was initially attracted to PAW as an open project, using an off the shelf transceiver with a published interface, and a published message protocol.  However, with the demise of the ARF, is there any point in publishing the P3i message protocol? Is there any means of accessing the message stream so that we can use it?  Or will the specification and interface to the new bridge transceiver be made public?  Without these things, is PAW any more open than FLARM?

I set mine to 'BASE' followed by postcode. 'GROUND-NN4' looked too much like a G- registration at a quick glance.

Hi Kevin,

My limited experience matches yours. With two Skyrangers, PAWs mounted on the coamings, kit antennae directly attached, contact would be lost at around 2 km or less in a stern chase. There was no problem if the antennae could 'see' each other, but we were no more than 11 km apart.  Both of us got about 70 pings from another PAW equipped aircraft 60 km distant, pretty we'll on the nose, so it's all about antenna location. ISTM that we need two external antennae, one above and one below the airframe.

I have also experienced the spurious > 100 km pings, which hamper track file analysis.

I have sent a PM with the link.  The parser is in C, with a nod towards C++, and is already written the hard way.  Thanks for the pointer to strtok_r(), my code is not defensive in places, and could do with better parsing.  Enough geeking.

The trouble is, I can't make a very objective report.  I heard a racket, and pulled the plug without even looking at the display.  Good point about the files though, I will take a closer look.
