Hi Peter,
Thanks for the info, I will change my wiring over the weekend, I like the idea of making use of the polyfuse. It is certainly a very well thought out product.
Your help has been much appreciated.
Julian

I wasnt totally sure about the points marked 5V and GND In and if they were to power the whole unit or not so used the header pins that I was sure about (used on other Pi's) - if these pads route via some protection I may well re-wire it. Thanks for the info.

Thanks everyone. The micro usb connector was the issue (very out of shape), I thought I had repaired it but it was still occasionally intermittent. Plan B was to hard wire a usb lead onto the bridge - fed in via a grommet. The first USB lead I sacrificed was not good enough and reported voltage errors so tried another - much better 5v wire but no 0v wire other than the screen so pig-tailed off that. So far looks much better - not intermittent and no volts errors that I was regularly seeing, I wait to see what happens next time I fly. If anyone else does this, the wires in usb leads are very poor pvc, I pig-tailed ptfe wire to try and avoid melted insulation and short circuits. Raspberry Pi's are brilliant (if you can get them), if only they had a more robust power connector.

Technical Support / Intermittent Rosetta MicroUSB Power Socket
« on: January 04, 2023, 08:54:18 pm »
Hello,
I look to be suffering from a intermittent micro USB Power Socket on my Rosetta. What suggestions are there for alternative means of connecting power (I use an Anker Powerbank). It certainly doesn't feel good and if I wiggle things the Pi appears to go off/on - it is the socket on the Rosetta/Pi not the power lead at fault. I was thinking of adding a better style of power socket and soldering to the 40 pin header on the Pi (or the pins on the micro usb socket - but the header is easier!) Has anyone done this? Any advice? Reverse protection diode & thermal fuse?
Thanks,
Julian

Hello,
I received my iGRID USB module today - upgraded firmware in my Rosetta, plugged in the module and powered it up. iGRID connected to my hotspot OK. The Rosetta reported no GPS and it started to get hot around the USB sockets (with that subtle electronics getting hot smell!) - the Rosetta also reported a volts error. Turned off, removed the iGRID module and the Rosetta found GPS and appeared to work OK (detecting traffic, connecting to skydemon). I am using an ANKER powerpack with a very short (15cm lead). It is almost as if the Rosetta USB sockets cant provide enough power to feed another USB devices.
I dare not plug it back in, dont want to risk blowing up the Rosetta.
Anyone else with a similar issue?
Thanks,
Julian

This is all rather odd - I am assuming now that I have set something wrong somewhere.
From last Sunday ktrax has seen me but nothing on FR24.
Any thoughts anyone? What does "possible duplicate" mean?

Julian,
If you go to the OGN forum and put FR24 in the the search box there is quite a bit of information there, one thing I noticed is that if you use your ICAO id then FR24 filter it out and you won’t be shown.
Hi Ben - Can you clarify this about ICAO code please? thanks, Julian

Thanks - on the OGN Device registration I have selected ICAO and entered the hex Device ID, is this correct?

I continue to be impressed with PAW running with Skydemon, well done all involved!

I have been within range of OGN Uplink sites in the general Sywell area and have registered on the OGN database, this looks to have worked as I have an entry on http://ktrax.kisstech.ch/cgi-bin/flarm-txrange.cgi?command=who (although I dont know "what possible duplicate" means), if this OGN registration has worked should I also be visible on FR24 (I have a business account via my FR24 receiver/feed) as I have yet to appear there?

Thanks,
Julian

Hi Lee,
Now I know it is possible I will order the new Pi, I didnt want to do this without checking first.
Many thanks,
Julian

General Discussion / License situation if I upgrade my Pi
« on: February 19, 2017, 09:03:23 pm »
Hi,
I have a self built PAW with the original PiB+ but with one of the new Bridge units. I am looking at upgrading to a Pi 2B. Will I require a replacement license or is the license linked to the Bridge?
Thanks,
Julian

Hi David, I will be after a Bridge at some point as I made an ADSB unit. Will you be selling the antenna or do you recommend one from elsewhere with the appropriate connector?
Great work team!

I may have missed something but what is the situation for those of us who built ADSB only units? Do we just buy the new Bridge? Does this come with an antenna or does this need sourcing elsewhere? Great work Lee and team!

Well that looks to work! First SD card gave "error resizing" error but second one just worked - reception of commercial aircraft give ranges far more than i will ever need, with an indoor antenna over 20nm. Remarkable.
