Hello,

since the current position is essential for PAW working correctly, have a look at this posting:

http://forum.pilotaware.com/index.php/topic,118.msg1703.html#msg1703

I successfully run following setup for testing PAW connected to EasyVFR at home:
- my PC is connected to PAW W-LAN with a W-LAN USB-stick
- additionally it's connect via LAN to the internet to compare PAW and FlightRadar (not needed, but nice to have)
- EasySim runs on the PC and is bound to PAW's IP-address using UDP port 2001
- EasySim's initial position is set to my current location

With this you don't need a GPS attached to PAW. The NMEA sentences from EasySim are routed over PAW to your navigation software and so you get a valid position.
This setup should be fine for other nav software as well.

Yes, that's correct.
For EasyVFR you need the latest beta version, unfortunately I don't have it.

Have fun

I have developed a piece of software which is capable to feed NMEA/GPS sentences over UDP, TCP and serial ports. It generates NMEA output based on your keystrokes (setting speed, altitude and direction). It's available for download at:
http://www.pocketfms.com/Downloads/Program/EasySim_V041.zip A manual is included.

Since PilotAware can listen on UDP port 2001 for NMEA/GPS sentences you can use this tool to test PilotAware without being in the air or driving with you car. For sake of arbitrary speed and altitude of this tool I successfully chased an airliner which was received by the DVBT dongle to trigger a traffic alert.

Let me know if any enhancements are needed to optimize the output for testing PilotAware.
