Technical Support / Re: Opening the Rosetta Case

Ah ha! That is exactly what I needed, thank you!!

Although I’ll admit I initially hadn’t noticed I wasn’t logged in so your reply looked very strange (guests can’t see pictures)!

Good call on the micro USB too, hopefully I’d have noticed before ordering the bits.

Technical Support / Opening the Rosetta Case

Because I’m always moving between club aircraft I’d mounted my Rosetta onto the RAM mount that holds my phone with some Velcro.
All very good, but it leaves the USB-C plug pressing against the window and it looks like I’ve damaged the connector over time. At the moment, if I waggle the plug the PAW will shut off which is certainly not ideal as it’s been happening in flight too.
It looks like I’ll need to replace the connector but I can’t see how the main Rosetta case comes apart to get at the Pi? I don’t want to snap anything so thought I’d ask on here.
Thanks

Didn't know there were trial sites 'up' from Gloucester?

Good point, it’s actually Compton Abbas I was thinking of - no idea why Gloucester popped into my head!

Thanks Ian,
I’m planning on flying down to Gloucester and the route takes me near the trial sites, hence looking at giving it a try.
I’ll keep an eye on the PAW shop for the appropriate bits.

Technical Support / UAT Weather
« on: August 24, 2018, 05:52:35 pm »
I’ve been browsing around the forum looking at ways of receiving the uAvionox/SkyDemon UAT weather trial transmissions. Can’t find anything definitive so could someone confirm deny my thinking:

1. My ‘out of the box’ Rosetta can receive UAT wx already, it just doesn’t display in SkyDemon as the ‘PilotAware’ protocol doesn’t support it.

2. If I change the connection protocol to GDL90 then UAT Wx will magically appear in SD (if in range).

3. When running in GDL90 I lose bearing-less targets in SkyDemon.

If all the above is true, then could I also connect say my iPhone using ‘PilotAware’ to see bearing-less targets but also simultaneously connect my iPad using GDL90 and see the weather?

If (as I suspect) I’m totally wrong and need another dongle, another antenna or a splitter then can someone point me to the actual bits I’d need to purchase please? I don’t mind a bit of soldering but I’m not 100% on what kit I’d need to make this work.

Thanks

The club has two Tecnams, a 152 and a 172 but I’m mainly flying the Tecnams. Have the Rosetta on one of the suction mounts recommended above by Robbydooo stuck to the window behind the seat. Was a bit concerned about blanking as it’s well under the wing but seems fine, I guess flying a plastic plane helps!
The little speaker works really well but I’m investigating an Aux input connection.

Thanks for the help everyone

Just an old pair of DCs for me so neither.
I bought a little speaker that plugs directly into the 3.5mm jack instead (there’s no cable, the little speaker is hard mounted onto the plug). At full volume I can hear it fine but I fly a fairly quiet aircraft (Tecnam).

That’s great, cheers. I’ve ordered the suction mount.

Used PAW for the first time on Tuesday - really impressed. Had it bodged onto my iPhone Ram mount with some Velcro. Not ideal as the antennas were canted about 45 degrees to fit - still seemed to work fine though.

Next project is a speaker (no ability to link into the intercom on share-o-planes).

Technical Support / Rosetta Mount

Just bought a Rosetta and am thinking about ways to mount it in the various club aircraft I fly. I’m looking at a suction cup mounting but was just wondering what fits the mount on the bottom? It’s the four holes with the brass threaded bit in between. I was told it’s a GoPro mount but the ones I’ve seen online look very different.
Thanks
