I’m currently noticing that 1090 dongle is not working , ie displaying red Unavailable RX=0(+0)
I understand it is known for thes dongles to fail. Can you advise of a source and part no for a replacement dongle ?
One option would be a flightaware dongle. But perhaps it’s an overkill
Suggestions appreciated. Thanks

Is this a PAW Classic or a Rosetta?
Replacement RTLSDR dongles for the Classic are available from PilotAware -see Products / Accessories on www.pilotaware.com
The standard Rosetta dongle has recently changed from the Stratux low power one to the NooElec NESDR Nano 2 - not currently listed on the PilotAware site, but available from Amazon.
I wouldn’t advise using a flightaware dongle in a PilotAware due to high current draw.

Thank you for that information.
I have a Rosetta. so obtain a new one.

The dongles that PilotAware supplies are suitable for Rosetta or classic

Hello Keith,
I have a PAW classic with an old rtl sdr dongle that is not working I think. I get the error message 1090 unavailable.
1. Which dongle i can use as replacement?
2. Do I need to install any drivers or software, or will it work straight away?
Hoping to hear from you.

Hi Olivier,
Sorry to hear you are having problems with your 1090 reception on your PAW Classic. Unfortunately replacement SDR dongles aren’t currently listed in the shop on the pilotaware.com website, but if you drop an e-mail to support@pilotaware.com they should be able to help you.
Best Regards

A friend of mine has the same problem, "1090 unavailable".
I have his Rosetta in my hands for testing and repairs, I will try installing a different SDR grabbed from another Rosetta.

Ok, it is not the SRD, but is the software corruption. I tried with another SD card from another Rosetta and everything is working fine.
Now I try formatting a different SD and reinstall the software

Hi Mariko,
Hope you got it sorted, and thanks for the ‘reminder’ that not all ‘1090 Unavailable’ reports are due to a defective SDR - though to be fair, software on the microSD card becoming corrupted usually presents as a wider range of symptoms than simply ‘1090 Unavailable’. Certainly one to commit to memory for me though.
Good catch!

I can confirm it was a microSD issue.
With a new installation on another SD the problem was solved.
The only symptom was the "1090 unavailable". Neither the log report any error

Hi Mariko,
Glad to hear your friend’s Rosetta is working again. I also dealt with two at the weekend - one of which was a defective SDR and a broken extension cable on the P3i side (on an early PAW Classic), the other was corrupted software / microSD card. Both units now working normally again.
