Title: Updating from Release 20191008
Post by: Admin on November 09, 2019, 02:15:04 pm
Some stations are stuck on release 20191008, in order to fix this issue and perform a full reinstall of the latest release, please run the following command after logging into your OGNR station

$ curl -s https://pilotaware.lode.co.uk/ogn_install.sh | bash

This will take around 20-30 Minutes to complete, afterwards, please log in and run the configure script
$ cd rtlsdr-ogn
$ ./PilotAware-OGN.config.sh

Your previous settings will remain unchanged, but please pay special attention to
- Entering an email address

To ensure good security, always change the default pi password from the initial setting of 12345678

Thame/PWThame just updated OK. I didn't recall the 'Enabling Remote Maintenance access ' bit from when I rebuilt it the other day so did the update anyway.

Can you tell me if Enstone/PWEnstone also needs doing?

Hi Ian
Yes Enstone is on 20191008, so requires this update, not sure if somebody tried to do something, because I see the following entries in our DB

57 PWEnstone  v20191008
95 PWPWEnsto  v20191104

Maybe the OGN station was temporarily set as the name PWEnstone (causing the OGN-R to be PWPWEnsto) ?

Looks like EGSL is stuck too. I should be up there next week

I’ll get onto Enstone next weekend.

As for the attempted update. I must confess to having a brain fart while rebuilding PWThame. I put all of Enstone details into the config, and only after checking it functions did I spot my mistake and correct it. Perhaps it was that?

Cheers
Ian

PS Thought no one had noticed ☺️

I must be doing something wrong. I Putty'd into my station and input the line "curl -s https://pilotaware.lode.co.uk/ogn_install.sh | bash" after the $ and got the following reply
-bash: -s: command not found
-bash: cur: command not found

Help!!!

Hi Peter. so there is no confusion the exact text to type is as follows

Code: [Select]
curl -s https://pilotaware.lode.co.uk/ogn_install.sh | bash
The '$' was indicating the command line prompt, were you typing the '$' by any chance ?
unless you built your OS yourself and it does not have curl installed ?

if you issue the following command, what do you get

Code: [Select]
which curl

OK it worked that time, it didn't take 20 to 30 mins though. BUT it went back to the command prompt and then aborted my connection and now I can't get back in with Putty.

Thanks for the help, yes it appears to be working now but I cant get into the flarm data on 8080 or 8081. Pilot Aware now shows 20191111 for the version. I'll see what happens tomorrow, after a reboot tonight. Spot the gliders etc show the receiver as up and working.

It's not working at all now. Looks like I'll have to do a new install. Does the file stored at latest.zip have the 20191111 release?

Yes it does, how did you determine it was not working?

When you ran the PilotAware-OGN.config.sh did it complete ok ?

No it didn't complete and I couldn't log in with Putty. Also the station was red on spot the glider. I'm doing a fill reload now so will let you know what happens.

Update
Now working after a full reload with release 20191111. now showing as on line in Spot the gliders, OGN tracker and Glider radar.

Mine also went off-line when I tried it. I think it might have overwritten the Wifi configuration.  :o

I'll try and sort it out next time I'm back in Guildford.

Can't remember how I put in the static IP address but I think it sort of standard.

Hi All,
Have noticed that my system has not updated, so tried to access to update.....probably a simple answer is the OGN login “pi” and the password what I changed it too on install ? It now does not recognise my original password and came up with incorrect login? Or does the new updates it does automatically receive before the last update change the password?
I tried to update using the download on to a new SD card but on upload it keeps stopping at 21mb and crashing?

Any help gratefully received!

Neil

Hi Neil,

Yes, the default OGN login is still ‘pi’ and Yes, earlier updates could have reset the password. Have you tried the ‘default’ password 12345678 ?

If that doesn’t work you do need to do a fresh install. No idea why your new upload is crashing at 21Mb though, sorry. Possibly corrupted during download / transfer or a faulty card? If so, you need to do a Full Overwrite reformat of the card and try again or try another card. (Make sure it’s formatted as FAT32.) Hope this helps.

Regards

Peter

Hi Peter
I meant to mention, when you had an issue earlier - was it related to the station you werre running a WiFi link ?

of course this would have been lost with a full install
I am going to try to merge PaulS WiFi additions, and save status, so that a reinstall would maintain this

Thx
Lee

Morecambe is hard wired to a switch so no WiFi issues, the new one that will eventually be EGNL is WiFi as no land line is available.

PWKingstone successfully updated late last night. The previous discussion regarding default passwords was very useful in avoiding a predictable “gotcha”.

PW Shobdon next on the list, either for myself or Tom.

Thx,

Chris

PWEgerton updated.

I have a USB keyboard and a recycled monitor attached to the OGN-R RP. You can buy an HDMI to VGA adaptor for pence.

It's easier to do the update with as you can then see when the update finishes and the reboot happens as you are not kicked off your remote connection.
