Title: New version of PAW
Post by: PeterG on May 09, 2019, 01:02:50 pm
Just a polite query, but is there a date yet for the launch of the next version of PAW?

There has been some mention of the Beta test. Has that been going well and what enhancements can we expect?

We are aiming for the end of the month.

This will require a full ZIP install due to updates in the OS required.
We are looking to potentially enlist a partner to provide pre-formatted SD cards, for users who do not wish to undertake the reformatting themselves

Thx

Lee,
A new SD card sounds a good method to me

Are you going to provide a backup solution to keep all aircraft profiles and PAW settings etc?

This would be really helpful for a full format!

Even if you can list which files need to be transferred as I can attach the SD card to my Linux virtual machines and pull the files - I’ve done that before with track files to transfer between devices! :-)

Thanks
Rob

Cannot provide an automated solution, but ig you can read the disk

/root/cache
/root/servers/PilotAware.cfg

Thx

I’ve been trying to flight test the pre-release today, but unfortunately the weather had other ideas  :(  :'(  Hopefully other testers will have had more luck. Definitely worth waiting for though.

Will existing users of PA receive email notification when Software update available? Personally, I’d prefer to receive updated SD card!

Andy,

AFAIK, details are still being finalised, but last time it took ages for the bulk e-mail announcement to reach all users, so I suggest keeping a lookout for an announcement on here - presumably in the ‘News’ section at the top of the Forum Home Page, plus more detailed information/instructions in the Licensing & Downloads Section of the Forum.

Regards

Peter

Will be nice to have an updated version but I will state here and now that the present version has been very stable on my RPi3.
I think I'll hang back a day or two to be sure it all works.....which I'm sure it will!
Thanks your efforts.
Regards
Gerry

Erm, wasn't the new version due out yesterday? I can see no mention of it, in the forum or on https://pilotaware.lode.co.uk/
as @Mig29fuk, I'll let early adopters establish any issues before switching over...

Lee,

Can you confirm that connecting a tablet app i.e. SkyDemon has to be done by selecting ‘GDL90’ as the protocol (as per the trial software) and not ‘PilotAware’?

Thanks

The instructions recommend an 8GB SD card now

Yes, it will fit on 4gb.
The reason for the recommendation is that in the next release we are looking at adding a full web server, this will probably not have space to upgrade on a 4gb card
Thx

Hi Graham,
You can connect using
Flarm
Pilotaware
Gdl90

All are applicable
Thx

In the testing phase of the new version, all good so far. Well done Lee.

Feedback when connecting to SD via pilotaware protocol first message received is this.....never had the lost message before

On SkyDemon
GPS Lost
6 found

Is there a way to make the BT discovery a little more user friendly.....is it not possible to read an ascii label rather than the I presume mac code.....very confusing when you are setting up at home and a million devices populate all with mac codes....

Keep up the good work.....

Brinsley

Hi Brinsley
This is normal, this was a fix for Android. Messages are throttled back until the connection is guaranteed to be established
Thx
