Title: PilotAware Map
Post by: ianfallon on October 12, 2015, 09:40:02 am
Hi all,

I've created an open Google Map. Feel free to add yourselves to it (to the existing map layer) using your user name from here.
The idea is really just to see if there are other PilotAware users nearby you can contact (via PM on here) to help with testing units against each other. It's not a list of actively running units.

Cracking idea Ian. I'm in and, so far, am by far the most northern outpost of the empire.

Good Idea, But I may be a little slow here How do you add yourself? with your Forum Name?
Title: Re: PilotAware Map
Post by: brinzlee on October 12, 2015, 12:18:20 pm
On the map under the search bar there is a little tear drop which when hovered over says "Add Marker".....click on this, then the location where you are on the map and it should appear...then fill in the details of your forum name from here....and jobs done !!

Yea add a pin to the map roughly where you are with your forum name to the PilotAware Owners layer.

I've added a second map layer to which we could add live running units but it's probably too much faff for everyone to keep accurate so probably best to coordinate running / testing between yourselves.
If you do add this this one, include your hex code your PAW is using and ensure it's up and running for people flying over to detect.

Put myself on at Sleap.

Awfully lonely over here, by the look of it.

I'll have to start persuading people to start building PAWs over this way, or start a production line for them!

Looks like we have picked up some intruders on the map.

Point 52 (twice)
Parkinson Eric & Sons (!)

Also, possibly:
Point 33
Point 37

We also keep getting empty layers being created - I have deleted several so far.

It seems that anyone can edit anything on the map, which is a bit of a concern. Do we have any policy for identifying and deleting these intruders?

Point 52 is me.  EricC located Poulton-le-Fylde Lancs.     No idea about the others unless it came from my
google maps.    Sorry for the mix up.     EricC

Added.  Not happy about adding contact details directly on Google maps for reasons already discussed.  How about adding club / home airfield (e.g. SW Flying School @ EGBW)
Title: Re: PilotAware Map

Hi David, Just put your Pin location close to home if that is were the PA unit is running from. Mine is on a major roundabout a few minutes away. Once you are using it in an aircraft then the airfield would be a better location. What text you put in the comments in entirely up to you.

The exact position doesn't matter btw - it's just to show roughly where people are so people close to each other can get together if they want to  :)

Another one to add to the few north of the border.  Flying flexwing out of East Fortune.  ADSB with GPS only at the moment.  J. Curtiss shield and Baro on the way and still considering sending for ARF as another club member has the full kit but not put together yet.
Potential for further testing on the ARF range etc.  ???

Here is a bump for the map. There must be loads of working units out there now. It would be good if as many of us as possible were on the map?

Rumour has it that my two neighbouring airfields have units but I haven't had any contacts on SD as yet. Loads of others

Rob /All,

I have added  a separate map 'layer' to Ian's map for PAW OGN-R stations to make them easier to see amongst the throng of PAW users.

See..... https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zVI6qIGFGOBI.k8XS-lFctmQ4&usp=sharing

OGN-R station 'owners / installers' please  feel free to add your OGN-R stations to this layer, preferably using the standard format I have set up. Any probs please get in touch.

I have added a detailed set of tips/instructions here...  http://forum.pilotaware.com/index.php/topic,1075.msg12847.html#msg12847

Hi All,
This map looks well out of date in some respects ie there has been a PAW ground station at Bembridge for 6 months at least and there is nothing at Lee on Solent contrary to this map.
There is a Glider ground station west of Brighton at Southwick (not on the map) and I am gently on the case to persuade the owner to  upgrade to PAW.
