I have installed all the HW and SW and when loading the RPi I get a login prompt which they say I should ignore. I tried to connect from my iPad 192.168.1.1 but that is the IP address of my home router. I looked in the router list of units connected and I can't see the RPi. I'm sure I have the right WiFi dongle http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252432669588?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT , it has Chipset: RT5370. What else is there to check? Assistance please!

Are you connected to the PilotAware hotspot ?
Firstly you need to connect to the Wireless Hotspot - PilotAware-xxxxxxxxxxxx
then, you can connect to the IP address http://192.168.1.1 which is an address served by PilotAware
(not your home router which is on a different Wireless/Wired network)
Thx

I can't see the PilotWare on my iPad as a unit coming in.
There are lines in the log which might give a clue:
Error for wireless request "Set Tx Power" (8B26)
Set failed on device wlan0: Operation not permitted
### WiFi ssid= PilotAware-B827EBFF4066
etc ...

hcccs,
I take it this is a 'home-build' not a purchased Classic Kit?

Yes, but it should work just the same.

This seems to indicate the WiFi dongle is not a true RT5370, as this indicates it is not supporting the Power Level attribute.
We saw a few of these fake RT5370 from China - or could be an early revision with the same USB-ID
Can you post a screenshot of the home screen
Thx

Absolutely!! - No criticism intended - most of mine are home-built. Its just that knowing it is home-built will help us focus on more likely issues (such as the WiFi potentially having the wrong chipset) which we might otherwise disregard with the Classic Kits as the components are of known provenance and all pre-tested before dispatch. This will hopefully help us to resolve things more quickly for you. As Lee is on the ball (as usual) I will step back and let him deal with things.
Best Regards

I ran update, upgrade and autremove and then a lsusb and on one line it says
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 0bda:8176 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8188CUS 802.11n WLAN Adapter
It seems to me that this WiFi dongle is not the right one, or ...?

Yes this is not an RT5370 I'm afraid, I think the USB ID for an RT5370 is
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 148f:5370 Ralink Technology Corp. RT5370 Wireless Adaptor
This was the main reason for creating the PilotAware Classic, in order to procure all the correct devices in advance.
Thx

I think the Stratux uses the RTL8188CUS if you ever build one of those for flying in the US. :)
