Title: USB port for future software upgrades
Post by: davep on August 22, 2016, 08:32:42 am
I welcome the additional option of upgrading software using a USB pen.
I would like to mount the PilotAware behind the instrument panel and therefore prefer to have a USB extension permanently connected and accessible to be able to connect a USB stick for upgrades. At the moment I can't do this as all four USB are in use (4th connected to transponder).
The GPS dongle is accessible on top of the glare shield using an extension lead. Could I replace the GPS with the USB pen for software upgrades?

Hi Dave
Yes you can. If you are using all 4 then why not attach the Adsb dongle via a usb extension lead. Then you can easily get to this even if the PilotAware is buried deep behind the dashboard.
When testing I removed the Adsb dongle as my memory stick was too wide to fit by the side. This worked Ok with the Adsb dongle removed.
More and more folks are I doing a more permanent installation and this works fine in my experience

Thanks Keith.

That opens up more options to install the system discretely but still accessible for maintenance.

The ADSB, GPS and USB/RS232 dongles are hot swappable
The WiFi dongle is NOT.

Thx
