Title: software install
Post by: rg on August 17, 2016, 08:15:40 pm
Happily running on a PiB+ .  A new Pi2 just arrived today.  Formatted SD card again and put software on it.  During boot on the Pi2 it gets stuck at the following line

2.2717251 ---[ end Kernel panic [ not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

Anyone have any idea whats going on?

Formatting error, you may need to format with 'FULL (Overwrite)'

thx

Tried that several times.  It seems dragging the software out of the zip file straight onto the card worked but everytime I used an  unzipped versions I had the problem.  ???

Well I spoke a bit soon.  Finally got the software to install.  Pi2 is plugged into the mains at the moment and connected to a monitor.  I can  see it boots up to the pi login prompt and I could see and connect to the paw wifi.

As soon as safari connected to 192.168.1.1 the pi rebooted and is now stuck in a loop

Rg
Is this a home build or a classic ?

I am suspecting either the sd card, or the wifi dongle

Aha, just reread, rebooted you say, could this be power
What is your supply and cable ?

I have a wifi dongle from the pihut, which when connected starts drawing 700mA !!!!

Thx

Its home built.  But everything was working OK on the B+.  Seems to be working again now.

I think that may well fail again, sounds like the SD Card may have a corruption :-(

Actually I think it was a power issue.  I just looked at the plug and it only outputs 5v 1a and it was a long cable.  It was fine when I swapped onto a short cable, or swapped the plug.  Just rather stupidly assumed I'd get enough juice out of any usb plug.
