Hi from Denmark
We will begin testing with weather radar directly to i.e skydemon.
Noo electric already supply the dongle for the 10xx mhz
Can i add a noo electric dongle recieving 978mhz to the pilotaware, and will it work ?, alternativly substitute the 10xx dongle with the 978 to recieve weather ?
Pleased to hear
All the best from Denmark

Yes, any RTL SDR dongle should do it, except if they're somehow filtered.

Thanks Paul
Can i run the 10xx and the 978 MHz at the same time so that i both get proximity and weather ?
Brg

Hi Peter S,
Providing you are running the latest Public Release Software (which is Version 20180520), if you plug in a second SDR dongle, the software will automatically detect it and tune it to 978MHz.

Yes, but bear in mind the software you're using for your mapping. You can choose to connect the tablet with either PilotAware/Flarm, or GDL90. The PilotAware/Flarm protocol doesn't send weather to the tablet as it's not part of the protocol.
If you choose GDL90, it sends the weather to the tablet. However, the GDL90 protocol doesn't include bearingless traffic.

One addition
.... unless you are using EasyVFR, which under the GDL90 protocol, handles
Traffic (including Bearingless) and Weather
Thx

Hello,
I have SkyMap an Rosetta with Flarm-In
SkyMap can MNEA and GDL90
by Rosetta Flarm-In MNEA 19200 baud
If now a second SDR 978
Connected to the Rosetta.
Does the Rosetta send by wifi.....
1. Traffic NMEA PAW
2. Traffic NMEA 1090
3. Traffic NMEA Flarm
4. Weather GDL90
Is that correct ?
I am flying to Denmark in June.
Denmark have weather 978 ???
thx

Hi All
OK, just to clarify
If you connect over Wifi, you get the following from these connection types
Flarm:
Positioned Traffic, Bearingless Traffic, GPS(NMEA Messages)
PilotAware:
Positioned Traffic, Bearingless Traffic, GPS(NMEA Messages)
GDL90:
Positioned Traffic, Bearingless Traffic, GPS(NMEA Messages), Weather
The problem is with GDL90, we have "re-purposed" some of the features of the (unused) NACp fields to indicate that the traffic is bearingless. Only EasyVFR will read this data and process this data to shoe a bearingless target.
thx

Ah, I must have missed this bit! ;D
So is this addition to GDL90 official or something worked out between yourself and EasyVFR? Having implemented it on the PAW side, any chance at all of convincing Tim D to implement it in Sky Demon? I know that he doesn't think much of Bearingless but he's got it all in place for the Flarm protocol anyway.

Yes I proposed a solution to Rob at EasyVFR, whereby we overloaded some unused values in the NACp parameter value
Having implemented it on the PAW side, any chance at all of convincing Tim D to implement it in Sky Demon?
I have tried, I think Tim is open to providing an interface via GDL90, but he was not keen with overloading the use of the NACp parameter - we may need to revisit this at some point.
I know that he doesn't think much of Bearingless but he's got it all in place for the Flarm protocol anyway.
Yes, I think Tim is not really an advocate of Bearingless targets, but he is a pragmatist and appreciates his customers find it useful
Thx
