Technical Support / Re: Low Power RTL-SDR v2
« on: June 08, 2018, 12:30:51 pm »
This was quoted by Keith Vinning on the Rosetta DIY upgrade under latest news, see below  ;)

To get all Rosetta units up to a common standard, you will need to undertake an SD card reformat and a full manual software installation.

So I have taken this as being the bridge is being replaced a full reinstall is required.

If this is not the case I am happy to format my SD card and do a fresh install with the latest software, although I done this with the last release version 20180129 as this had an update for the kernel.

Kind Regards

Allan

Hi Paul

I just noticed that, if you purchase via Amazon link they look different, you also get two, but it does say on the website USA purchase.  8) 8)

If you purchase directly from their website and pay $16.95 like I did, you do get the Low Power RTL-SDR v2 (PCB black in colour), once connected to the PA it's listed as Stratux LowPowerV2, but as Lee has said above, after a full reinstall of the latest software this will change to PilotAware.

I've not tried this yet as I'm waiting for the rosetta upgrade to start, as I believe when you change the bridges over you are required to do a full reinstall, I just didn't want to do it twice.  ;D ;D

Strange thing is, I've just looked over some pictures a friend had sent me of his new rosetta, including the inside, and the RTL-SDR board looks like its blue in colour, is this the older v1 board???  ??? ???

Hi Lee

Yes I'm running the latest software   ::)

I could do a full reinstall, but if this needs to be done when the new bridges become available for the Rosetta upgrade, I'll rather wait till then.

Unless this only need to be done once, and when the new bridge become available its just a swap over  :D :D

if it truly is the v2 - then none at all.
We simply reload the EEPROM with the PilotAware name, rather than stratux

Thanks Lee for clearing that up, yes its a true v2 direct from the manufacturer  ;D

I believe many other users have done the same by buying direct from the above website.

Are you able to PM the software and how to rename the EEPROM to PilotAware, also would this be the same name for the additional one required for WX.

Morning All

Just purchased one of these Low Power RTL-SDR v2 from this site https://www.rtl-sdr.com/buy-rtl-sdr-dvb-t-dongles/

I received this yesterday and installed into my PA and its listed as Stratux LowPowerV2, all works fine see ADSB traffic from 300 miles away.

I've been looking at some of the screenshots for the new Rosetta, where people have had issues and I see the new RTL-SDR being listed as PilotAware SDR, so I was wondering what the differences are.

Kind Regards

I've changed mine to PilotAware- ***** this bit being my aircraft registration..

This works perfectly if you only fly one machine  ;) ;)

I know a mate had trouble with a Pi 1.2 initially but I've now clarified it was purely a software issue before the new version came out. Might as well get the slightly newer one now I know it is supported.

Cheers.

Who might that be  ;) ;)

Trust me it will work with the new board v1.2, I've been running my PAW on this new board since the end of December... If I remember correctly, if not it was certainly early January, thanks to Lee   ;D ;D

I also would like a scrub bar of some kind  8), as it's rather tedious after an hours flying to check what happened in the last 10 minutes, and if you missed it because your making a cuppa you have to do it all again  ;D ;D

Great work by the way, keep up the good work

Evening Roger

You've got exactly the same problem as I had, I also have a Bose A20 headset, with Bluetooth.

I can confirm using either a Bluetooth TX as shown in this thread or even the ground loop isolator, this will fix your problem. I spent many days trying to resolve this, thought it was a wiring issue, even spoke to the manufacturer for my radio.

I'm currently using the ground loop isolator for my PAW and then I use the Bluetooth side on my headset for my iPad, giving me warnings from SD and also making calls via my mobile  ;) :)

Kind regards

General Discussion / Re: Reducing PAW Audio Chattiness. Is it possible ?
« on: February 20, 2017, 01:36:11 pm »
It would help on the ground after landing. Actually that's the time I'd say it would be most useful. Changing the software has got to be way easier than modifying hardware. One still potentially has a visual alert even with no voice alert. I see little value in voice alerts whilst waiting to line up because other aircraft on the ground will likely be closer (mode c/s) and anyway we all know in which direction to look before lining up. Also, the definitive 'voice alert' for aircraft on final is when they call 'finals' isn't it ?

My vote is still for a setting in the PAW config since it won't mess up the guys who want the alerts all the time, which could be the default.

I second this..  :) :) If this is possible, I could even test this too, if your able to make this change within the software. :)

Hi Allan
Great news
Can you post a link to the ground loop isolator for others.
Thx
Lee

This is the one I got http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mpow-Ground-Loop-Noise-Isolator-Car-Audio-System-Home-Stereo-With-3-5mm-Cable-UK-/152353458215?hash=item2378f94827:g:yEsAAOSwXSJXPVsY although delivery time was rather slow  ;D

Hi Lee
I'm also seeing myself with Mode S/C either 100ft above or below. I'm using your latest version that you have updated for RB Pi2 v1.2. Hopefully you will have a fix shortly, this is the first flight since upgrading my hardware.

Just for info I have a Trig TT21 Transponder with ADSB out with is getting my GPS from my MGL Explorer lite

Latest update, after some weeks waiting for my ground loop isolator, which by the way supposed to have been delivered from the UK within 2 days.  ;D ;D

Tested this on my aircraft today and it also fixed the problem.... what a result.

Also done some nice flying too  ;) ;)

So at the end of this, anyone with the same issue then you have two options

Ground loop isolator or a Bluetooth transmitter

Both will work fine  8) 8)
