Paw does not have ADSB out, only in

This is the worst thread I have ever seen. Instead of using ridiculous analogies, can we either revert to a technical and or economical solid discussion?

Kind regards,
Patrick

Thanks Peter. I flew again today and put the PAW unit stuck on the forward part of P2 side window near the cowling (C182), and it worked well, so I guess it’s really a question, as you suspected, of antenna positioning. Finding a good spot which has good view of sky (for GPS), ground (for ATOM) and around you (for traffic!) isn’t easy. That spot seems to work ok.
Cheers

Hi there can you describe exactly where you positioned the antenna for maximum range? Or possibly post a photo. I'm still trying to position the antenna in my c172.

Cheers
Patrick

Your welcome to be my guest in this thread, but I think you wanted to post this somewhere else :)

I agree the glasfibre is the best solution. I have it on order and will post the results. I might even slave the led from the Flarm booster, which is powered by the Rosetta. So I know if that is working the Rosetta is on and working + the led is easier accessible.

Thanks

Technical Support / Re: iOS14 / SkyDemon connection issues
« on: September 28, 2020, 06:01:33 pm »
Just my two cents:

ipad mini 5 with iOS 14.0 and SD 3.14.3 connected to paw via udp pilotaware, however ground station and traffic was not visible.

Update to SD 3.14.4 solved the problem, even with iOS 14.0.
An update to 14.2 had no changes. So all working fine here and SD update did the trick for me.
I did not try Flarm, gdl or any other connection type.

Kind regards
Patrick

yes I use an iPad mini 5.

Good idea. I don't really use the 192.168.1.1 paw interface, instead I am constantly on the SD moving map displaying traffic and warnings there.
So I would prefer a hands off solution. But your idea is good for root cause analysis.

Hi Bob,

a standard Rosetta-only set up might not need a visible status LED. However I am using a PAW Rosetta+Flarmbat+2 Flarmbooster.

Your thinking: No SD Position = Rosetta not working has its limitations here. E.g. the GPS is coming from the Flarmbat and could be a cause.
So that aside, if you have any ideas to contribute to the solution, that is well appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Patrick

I cannot say for sure, because my experience with the original antenna is very low. And for PAW air to air traffic I have no experience, since there is hardly any paw equipped traffic in Germany. Hopefully that will change in future.

I can say that ground station reception has improved due to the fact that the horizontal antenna covers the areas left and right of the cowling + thru and down the side windows. Everything else in my c172 is metal and obviously reduces signal strength immensely.

Kind regards,
Patrick

Technical Support / Add External LED's

Hi there,

short question: is there a way to add external led's to a Rosetta? I use it in a contained box and would like to see if it functioning correctly / or minimum if it is still on.

Normally the GPIO is used, but I guess it's blocked by the bridge, or isn't it?

Kind regards,
Patrick

Agreed, that measurement was unfortunately misplaced.

I hope the vent on the side and at the bottom will help (it will hang under the coaming, so it will be free).
What is the max acceptable temp? And what happens if exceeded? Throttle down?
Otherwise I might need to open it up or print another case.

Yes they do. He made a special PAW antenna on the exact frequency and I'm using it. You can see on one of attached pictures.
