Technical Support / Garmin GPS AT575 with Pilotaware
« on: July 21, 2023, 05:53:47 pm »
I have a redundant Garmin GPS AT575 unit on my aircraft, can i use this to supply gps data for my PA?
Is it a matter of converting the coax connector to USB, or is there more to it than that?

Technical Support / 987 Mhz antenna instead of 869.5Mhz
« on: November 29, 2022, 05:50:59 pm »
The 869.5 Mhz external antenna is not available from pilotaware shop at present.
I have an 987Mhz, could this be close enough to be used? What would be the effect on efficiency and could it cause damage?
Thanks
Pete

I have a redundant external ELT(121.5 mhz) antenna hidden in the fin forward fairing and am trying to tidy up my PA installation.

Could I use this for 1090 mhz reception or would the losses be too great?  .....in which case I could cut it to the correct length, but would prefer not to if possible.

Thanks for any advice!

Technical Support / Anyone using Nexus 7 Gen 1 with SD (&PA)
« on: February 05, 2019, 03:24:16 pm »
Just upgraded SD(3.11.2) on the above, now I get screen freeze, but only when connected to PA.
Anyone else using same?
OK when reverting to 3.11.1  :(

Technical Support / audio output to king KMA24
« on: October 13, 2018, 05:44:07 pm »
I want to connect my pilotaware audio output to my KMA audio panel, which has 500ohm input impedance.
I believe the 2B has a much lower output impedance which i presume is why it is very quiet.
Looking for advice as to how to deal with this please? can I use a transformer or do I need an amplifier? recommendations please!
Thanks

General Discussion / ADSB out &PAW
« on: May 08, 2018, 05:00:59 pm »
I'm fortunate to have Approved ADSB  out(Trig&gtn under stc) so presumably I don't need PAW out, as all PAW users can see ADSB out.
The advantage of this would be that the large PAW aerial would no longer be required?
Can I do this by removing it and using PAW in "ground station RX" mode?
And if I can, I have a redundant ELT aerial(enclosed in rear fin coaming) which could be used for receive, I realise technically it's far to long but would it suffice? it could be shortened, or could I screen most of it?
Any thoughts gratefully received

Technical Support / Audio levels -Solved
« on: November 24, 2016, 02:49:37 pm »
Just noticed that the audio is very quiet when airborne, had to increase to 10 to hear but too loud on the ground, seems to switch to different level of output when airborne, anyone else had this?PAW audio feeding directly into light speed Zulu 2
Also noticed occasional transient increases while taxying

Technical Support / Mode-CS (Beta)
« on: November 06, 2016, 04:06:48 pm »
Hi,I have mode S txpdr with ADSB out.

PAW is set to "Mode-CS (Beta)" with the correct Hex -ID.

I noted the other day intermittent an  "red circle"(SD) warnings with no ID, at or near my level. Nothing seen(!) so presume this must be me. I know this is beta, just wondering if this is "normal" at present?

Thanks

Technical Support / mode s rings query
« on: July 28, 2016, 11:36:32 am »
Where is the documentation on what the mode s rings signify? can't seem to find anything.
FWIW I don't like them ...primarily because the Alt diff is now barely visible...surely this is the most important item!

How are the updates promulgated?
I recall something about being notified but so far have just stumbled upon them by browsing the forum.
Thanks

Tried to update software via LAN to my router(192.168.0.1).  Then connected via WiFi but no interface on 192.168.1.1.
So reconnected via LAN and opened 192.168.0.100,found interface, said update found so updated it.
Now WiFi interface found on 192.168.0.100
Seems to work, does it matter?Have I messed it up!?

Times for connect/ become visible via wifi seem to vary between 1 to 4 mins(4 being the usual)
Any thoughts.. using Anker battery power?
Also what is the TRX interface?..its red! logging shows repetative fails.
Thanks
Pete

update: connecting to a monitor shows cycling flashing screen with no boot up, if some of the usb devices are removed then it boots...is this a power problem from a not new battery?

General Discussion / Hex ID filtering
« on: May 17, 2016, 05:39:22 pm »
Been playing with my newly arrived "kit" today!

Presume the Hex-ID on the config page is to filter out your own aircraft.

However at my airfield I found several unknown Hex codes on the traffic page and displaying on my SkyDemon aircraft symbol.

Looking at the traffic page I believe they are ground vehicles as I recall that they are equipped with transponders.(reverse hex code lookups showed "unknown").

So is there any way of filtering out these known hex codes, i.e. I like to be able to enter more than one code into Hex-ID?

Otherwise seems very good!
Thanks
Pete
