General Discussion / PAW with uAvionix Skyecho 2
« on: September 29, 2019, 12:00:12 am »
I’ve been a very happy PAW user for a few years now, however I have changed aircraft and now I have no transponder at all. I’ve reconfigured my trusty PAW as per the instructions, as I am no longer Mode S and ADSB out.  However I feel ‘naked’ as my new airframe has no ADSB position output; Apart from other PAW users, no one can see me out there, so I am looking for the simplest solution to get me seen.  That looks to be a SkyEcho 2.

I wonder, what are the settings that one should make to PAW on the config screen, if a SkyEcho 2 is installed in the same airframe (without a transponder)?

OGN-R PilotAware / Memory corruption or SDR aerial fault?
« on: June 24, 2019, 06:22:46 pm »
Hi
I’ve noticed that glider reception was pretty non existent since I upgraded the OGN at EGKL. PAW does however work.

We had a period of outage as the network link was down to the site and now that’s all up and I upgraded to the latest OGN code, (changed from Deanland to EGKL as should have been originally) and it’s been running, but a bit deaf on Flarm.

I’m pretty sure I noticed some results on the Flarm SDR and aerial test when I put the upgrade in a few weeks back.......but maybe I didn’t....

Today running the calibration .sh as I had some spare time I noticed the following - not enough data collected, and sometimes I am getting odd memory errors during the test:

What’s the opinion of the gurus on here - the SDR is on ID0, detected (it’s on a USB extension cable to the SDR thats up on the mast, just under the colinear) and plugged into top left USB alongside the RJ45.

My thoughts are the colinear has karked it....as the SDR is being seen.  But what are these memory corruption statements when it does the test?
Advice appreciated.

General Discussion / PAW in action - experiences
« on: December 12, 2016, 12:19:21 pm »
Flying this weekend again with PAW and I have to say, the Mode C / S works a treat.
However the most valuable addition is the audio feed out of the pi.

Three Audio alerts this weekend:

aircraft 1 - +200 ft somewhere out there, looking about -  finally found it as it passed us above and to the left at about 200ft above.. (commenced a target attack on them with guns naturally  ;) )
Aircraft 2 - -200 and then -100 as I was descending - eyes on stalks - eeek observed head on to us, avoiding action turn to right, no indication the other aircraft noticed us at all. This would have been a head on if we hadnt seen them.
Aircraft 3 another mode C -100 below us - traffic sighted

Last week another example of Mode S/ADSB out detection was an aircraft joining the circuit non radio to the airfield (defective TX) and being able to see its right base join ahead of us, PAW also highlighted the TX wasnt working as I called the aircraft with no response.

PAW certainly is invaluable, the addition of audio alerts allows normal scan with various alerts through the headphones, presentation on my Skydemon display provides in many circumstances valuable enhanced situational awareness.

Just some good news stories.  :)

I personally can not await the release of the FLARM integration, flying from an airfield close to a gliding site.

General Discussion / Website Update Please
« on: December 12, 2016, 11:58:49 am »
The Pilotaware.com website is somewhat out of date currently, on release info.

http://www.pilotaware.com/software-update/
Shows incorrectly the old august version as latest 20160820

This link http://www.pilotaware.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/160901-Latest-software-.pdf
Shows 20160820 again.

Can this be updated?  It doesnt present a good image to prospective adopters, I would rather they invest in the products rather than get put off,  by out of date instructions and websites.  ;D

General Discussion / ARF update
« on: November 22, 2015, 04:33:58 pm »
Hi
I've got a working setup, but as per many others I am awaiting the ARF testing outcome until I buy that bit.

I wonder is there any update?

Thanks!
