Thanks Neil and Mike. Just waiting on the delivery of parts for my upgrade.

OK. Since posting this, there have been over 80 views. Thank you all for your interest. No replies, though.
However, being of a positive frame of mind, that's no negative advice, at least.
Given the probable increase in reliability, the more robust container and the better upgrade path in the future to more functionality, I have decided to take the plunge and buy the Classic Upgrade Service.
Except that PAW is currently out of stock!
I'll ask PAW direct when I can expect availability, but I thought that it might help others to know what we have decided, after reviewing the options.

I bought the Classic just over a year ago - and have just renewed our licence - on behalf of a group owned aircraft. Apart from random difficulties in getting it to first link with SkyDemon, running on my iPad mini (I have learnt to not start the engine until I am fully set up) it has performed faultlessly.
Apart from adding, generally, to my awareness of other aircraft in the vicinity, I have personally made a precautionary, but significant, change in height, or direction, as a direct result of a PAW alert, perhaps six times in the last year. Neither I, nor my flying buddy at the time saw the aircraft out of the window every time, but we always saw the the registration and I have no doubt that the warnings were real.
So, I'm a satisfied user and, though there is more competition in the market, I still believe that PAW is the best all round solution, hence my licence renewal. The one negative is, well, the Classic kit does look a bit "Heath Robinson".
Enter Rosetta. Much neater and more professional looking. If I take advantage of the discount, due to when I bought the Classic, it will cost me £138.33 +VAT. About a third off. Thank you PAW.
But, I get an upgraded processor, the Pi 3B, a "tested" (new?) Rosetta Bridge and a new aerial. Plus the box.
Will I see any actual improved performance for my 166 quid - faster identification of other aircraft, or whatever - or is Rosetta mostly about improving looks and robustness? The group only operates one aircraft and the PAW remains Velcroed to the coaming, so we don't need installation flexibility.
I'm a believer, but before I spend more of the group's capital, I'd be grateful for some advice.

Thank you Lee. Yes, my sloppy descriptive use of English. Will do.

I have had two instances recently when flying into one particular airfield - Turweston - when, on landing, the controller has reported that PAW has been indicating a registration of G-__MM, as against the correct one of G-__EL.
I have checked the settings on our setup and only the aircraft's own correct registration (as well as its HEX code) are properly listed. I have also tested it with another PAW set up on the ground and both pick up the correct identification of each other's aircraft.
Now, it is logical to say that the airfield's own installation must, somehow, be at fault, but they are adamant this this is the only instance that they have seen.
Has anyone else had any such experience?

Sorry. I attached the file twice, by mistake. They are exactly the same.

Thank you for this.
Whilst its not difficult to find this, if you know where to look, might it be an idea to add those couple of instructions lines to the bottom of the download page, so that people could see what the upgrade consists of? Might just solve some people's queries, rather than them having to search the forum.
For anyone's interest, I attach a PDF of the upgrade history, as downloaded, formatted and saved, as instructed above.

Technical Support / Re: Possible interference to compass by pilotAware
« on: August 07, 2018, 12:09:32 pm »
Some feedback for anyone's interest.

Yesterday, I removed the small magnet from inside the base of the aerial.
It is very small indeed but, moving it around above the coaming, gave me anything up to a 45 degree variation in compass heading.
Following that, one of my other group members did a navigation detail with a student, i.e. no reliance on Skydemon etc, and they found no compass issues.
So, that seems to be that.

Aagh! We have a plastic top to our coaming and both the box and the aerial are held in place by Velcro. I didn't look to see if there was a magnet in the base.

Very probably the culprit. Pretty basic stuff!

Many thanks, Ancien.

I can's seem to find any details of what the 20180520 Classic software update contained. Is there a link that someone could kindly show me, please?

Technical Support / Possible interference to compass by pilotAware
« on: August 03, 2018, 02:20:38 pm »
We are running a Classic PilotAware installed on a group owned PA-22. It is situated on the far right of the coaming and powered by the recommended Anker power pack.
All works fine - and has, without doubt, forewarned us of a potential conflict several times since installation in February - but we have begun to notice our standard compass wandering (situated directly in front of the P1 position, on the left, on top of the coaming.
The aircraft had its annual, which included a compass swing, in March 18.
Has anyone suspected that PilotAware has influenced their compass. PAW maybe completely innocent and it is an old aeroplane, but I would be interested to hear of any issue and, maybe, solutions.
We could install it on the back shelf, which will be very effective on a fabric covered aeroplane, on catching someone sneaking up behind us, but that would be much less useful, I would think for head on conflicts.
Many thanks, in advance, for any comments.

Is there a list published anywhere of current OGN-R ground stations a) fully operational, b) pending and c) mooted/intended?

Thank you.

Technical Support / Powered up unit - correct lights visable
« on: February 24, 2018, 01:22:11 pm »
I'm a very new user of PAW. So, a basic question, I'm afraid.
But, first, a friend and I gave it its first proper air test yesterday and were very impressed. Still not sure why it didn't pick up a very smart Bonanza coming fast in the opposite direction, quite close and at our altitude, which surely must have had something switched on, but PAW picked up everything else of interest that we could see out of the windows and quite a few that we didn't until after a suitable delay.
Lights. Clarification of the latest Operating Manual, please. (I'm operating the latest software release) Testing the unit at home today - in West London, directly under the Heathrow flight path, clear view of the sky, everything fully loaded and connected to my iPad mini. I'm getting a solid red power light, a steady single flashing red light, top right by the aerial, but a solid green light to the left of that one; not a flashing one, four times.
If I go into the home page, I am showing all greens, 5 satts, etc. i.e. all normal.
Is the four flashing lights condition only when the system is booting up and connecting with the GPS/iPad etc, or am I looking at a potential problem? I am not clear from the manual.
Thank you in advance

Technical Support / Re: After software download - select 'install'?

Please see my posts on updating software of yesterday. I have just used the USB method, as recommended. I think much easier that via your router.
