General Discussion / Re: Transmit power and range

The link in the one I posted above is the connector which solders onto the end of the ARF where the pigtail connector currently is....this then plugs into the supplied antennae from the Ciesco....just means mouthing it so the end is in the plastic case.....so removing the pigtail wire connector completely

Not all is lost if thats the case...I guess these will solder in place of the pigtail connector......then a redesign of the ARF placement if using a slice or pod

So on the prototype you had the aerial soldered directly to the ARF board....or via an SMA connector on the board.

I'm using Slice Of Pod, ARF and Adafruit Barometer MPL3115A2.
Very easy to wire up.....one side of the Slice Of Pod has the ARF and the other the Barometer

Great article in Light Aviation Lee.....That explains it properly to those that aren't quite sure how the system works yet.....

I was told today by wirelessthings that they were intending on stopping the production of slice of pod....I had the last 10 but I told them under the circumstances they my want to reconsider that as using these boards makes the construction a little simpler in my opinion and neater. So call them and register a vote if you want the board and I think they'll put it back into production.

Web configuration then user choice would be great. I'm in favour of aircraft reg over hex code.

Just another thought.....If there was a known error from the sensor to a referenced QNH.....then maybe a way of entering in an offset.....I'm not sure how accurate the little beasts are !!

Thats great Lee.......At least it gives us some idea of whats going on for accuracy... ;D ;D

Lee
Think the latest release is a marked improvement yet again on reliability with the addition of the rewritten collision aware app too
Wondered if you would consider writing on the web interface the output from the barometric sensor if included, as a value, just so that we can confirm the QNH is something that it's supposed to be.
Keep up the great work

General Discussion / Re: Wifi dropping out
« on: September 27, 2015, 09:42:59 pm »
I think I have found the cause to be nearby routers when testing on the ground swamping the signal that are on the same channel as the raspberry pi wifi dongle. When testing away from any nearby interference and from a distance from the the Pi to the iPad of about a foot, it doesn't seem to dropout. I have asked if the wifi channel number can be selectable by like many questions I've asked I don't seem to get any response.

General Discussion / Barometric Pressure and FL levels
« on: September 27, 2015, 09:29:24 am »
Ok so I am a little lost with the figure being displayed next to the traffic aircraft on the SkyDemon screen.....I used Pilotaware for the first time in the air around Southend Airport (EGMC) yesterday .....we flew overhead the airport at 1700 feet on QNH 1026, set on our aircraft's altimeter......my Pilotaware has the barometric module fitted, we were trying to see if the figures made any sense as an EasyJet was taking off and was soon at the same height as us.....Initially there was no ADSB information coming from the EasyJet which is understandable as it was right underneath us.....but the first useful indicator was when it was at a very similar height to us......but what I'm not sure is when it was at the same height as us, what should SkyDemon have displayed......should it be 0 feet because its the difference  between us.....or will it be something different because I am pressure corrected with the internal barometric module updating the Pi and they are on 1013.......I am confused to say the least.......Is there a way of displaying the Barometric Module on the web interface to see if it is giving an accurate QNH.
Consequently what  should the figure be if it was another Pilotaware aircraft with or without a barometric sensor at the same height
Hope this makes some sort of sense

Thanks for all your great work Lee......Everybody is so impressed with this project and your commitment to it....I now have so many people wanting me to make the units I can't keep up !!

Kind regards

Brinsley

I am having exactly the same issue with it dropping out when next to routers on the same frequency which happen to be over at the airport.....In fact when I'm at the flying club their router is so powerful it prevents me from even trying to connect to the pi hotspot even when its 40 meters away.....at home I have no issues !! Is there anyway to change the wifi channel number out of curiosity on the software

General Discussion / Wifi dropping out
« on: September 23, 2015, 11:29:31 pm »
Have had the unit up and running a few times but then I keep having a small issue with the wifi dropping out and then not reconnecting after several reboots until the wifi dongle calls down. Want to replace it with another wifi dongle but when I insert this it won't pair with the new licence code that you have supplied for the new module. I have entered the code many times but do I have to reformat the sd card and start again as it appears not to be writting the new licence code to the pi. Also where do I increase the power output of the wifi module
Thanks for all your help.
