Either it's http or it's https and the certificate has expired. Looks like an expired certificate in this case...

Either way, unless you are spending money or putting passwords into it, it's probably browsers being slightly over nannying...

I emailed James a week or so ago but received no reply. James is probably really busy and I am very grateful for all his free work on the playback feature. Is there anyway PilotAware can help out? Any thoughts?

The response from this link is:

This site can’t provide a secure connection
playback.pilotaware.com sent an invalid response.

Is there a problem with the site ? Shame, as it is a useful tool.

Hi Bob,

That's weird - I was using the tools to check ground station playbacks this morning, and PAW track playbacks from lunchtime until about half an hour ago and the playback tools were working fine.

Can't get back in now though :(. I will make some enquiries.

Peter

Hi Peter,

I may have "liked" too soon ! This is wierd, the link works on my Android Tablet and Phone, but not on Chrome on my Windows 10 PC. I have tried clearing the cache to no avail, and also tried Microsoft Edge and Avast Browser with the same result. The full error messageon all three browsers is:

This site can’t provide a secure connection
playback.pilotaware.com sent an invalid response.
Try running Windows Network Diagnostics.
ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR

Cheers
Bob

Are you trying to get to the site with https in the front of it?

Try:

https://playback.pilotaware.com/playback/

You do not have the rights to access the directory above...

Your tablet and phone may be autocompleting...

Please note my FlySto recommendation - see another post. I have not made a traffic comparison with PilotAware but FlySto has a lot, maybe all mode-s, and has the novel advantage of a view of the traffic through the windshield, plus the terrain also and even has the ‘sun’ position if appropriate based on time of day of the flight.

I would put money on that 'feature' never having been requested of the Pilot Aware developers  ;D

Big yellow thing outside the window.......why do I need an app for that?

Hi again Bob,

Very strange, I was using it yesterday and again just now - on Chrome on my Windows 10 laptop. I just typed in ' playback.pilotaware.com/playback/ ' to the URL box and hit 'Enter' and the browser went straight to the site (Chrome automatically added https:// to the front of the URL).

I've just tried to speak to the guys who look after the PilotAware servers but neither of them are responding. I will try again later.

Regards

Peter

Hi Peter,

I think I may have found the cause. It appears that Malwarebytes that I use on my PCs is the problem.  If I enter the IP address in the MB exceptions (not the URL as first requested), then Playback runs OK. I can't say that there is no problem with the site, but I have found MB to be over protective with other sites ( I.e. the Matronics Forum).

This started as I wanted to compare Playback to Flysto.net Early indications are that Playback appears to shows more traffic, as flysto only appears to show ADSB traffic. So far, I have been using the kml files from Skydemon, but I would like to use the PAW trk files.

It's been interesting trying to find a way to convert the PAW trk files into kml, as required by flysto. I'm trying to use the technique suggested by Richard Hine in this thread

http://forum.pilotaware.com/index.php/topic,1574.msg17338.html#msg17338

but as I'm not familiar with Perl, I'm finding it challenging  at the moment

Cheers BobD

It appears the Playback program is having problems again.
After chosing a file, and uploading it, it sticks at 100%, and doesn't run the track replay.

We are upgrading our servers to add more capacity
So machines are up and down at the moment

Thx

Hi BobD

in SkyDemon find the log file you want and open it.
Now choose 'Explore in Google Earth'
this gives you the option to save the file, so save it
this is a .kml file
Now all you have to do is upload it to FlySto

Thanks SGS66, but the problem with that approach is that Flysto only displays traffic transmitting ADSB. the PAW Track files include much more traffic information. What would be nice is for someone with better PERL skills than I possess to expand on the excellent work Richard Hines has started here

http://forum.pilotaware.com/index.php/topic,1574.msg17338.html#msg17338

and create a KML file with all the traffic captured by PAW, so it can be imported into Goggle Earth or Flysto to give a fuller picture.

It's been a while but I have uploaded .trk files to GPS Visualizer:

https://www.gpsvisualizer.com (https://www.gpsvisualizer.com)

Can't remember if they showed traffic...

I would not be surprised if FlySto is getting mode s traffic also, as the near miss I had two years ago was with an old PA28-140 and I’d be surprised if it was sporting ADSB. I have the reg and details from FlySto as all I uploaded was my old SkyDemon .kml file to check on the close encounter.

Hi Steve, I had tried that site (and just tried again), but i couldn't get it to work with a PAW .trk file, it returns "No valid GPS Data detected", whichever output option is chosen.

Sadly https://playback.pilotaware.com/playback/ is still not getting past the upload phase, to display the track, on any of my devices......

Yes, I checked it out last night, and have emailed the developer.

It has worked with .trk files in the past as stored emails verified.

I'll keep you posted.

I'm just bumping this in the hope that the Playback option will be repaired soon.
