Hi Ian,

I haven't had any problems formatting cards. I have a total of 3 that have been reformatted a few times with the s/w copied to them.

Of the 3 cards, 2 are Kingston and 1 is Sandisk.

My machine is a Dell with built-in reader/writer.

Don't know if it makes a difference on the source.

My version was the free download from Microsoft as a Windows 8.1 user.

Hi Paul,

I'm no PAW expert but...

Does the WiFi dongle use the recommended chipset RT5370?

Like the one available here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231483794170?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

The SD card adapter should have a little slider on it that allows the card to be toggled between read/write.
If its the SD Formatter software telling you that it is write protected...don't believe it! I have found that re-inserting the card sorts that out. Remember to use the context menu to 'eject' the card if that is the case. Oops saw you are using a Mac...my experience is limited to Windows 10, but maybe, just maybe this might help!

Cheers,
Colin

Hi Paul,

Not sure what your setup is, ie ARF breakout boards etc.

If it's any help, what I did...

Holding off  fitting the ARF as per Lee's advice but fitted the Hobbytronics Baro as follows:

It doesn't come with any connectors, I got some of these and broke to size: http://cpc.farnell.com/multicomp/mc34743/header-1-row-vert-24way/dp/CN14499?ost=CN14499&selectedCategoryId=

You can get various sizes I opted for the 24 way. Unfortunately the minimum you can buy is a pack of 10. I do have other uses for the remainder so I didn't mind. I didn't search ebay so you could get them there I dare say.

Next I used 10cm Female to Female jumper wires to connect the Baro to the GPIO pins. I got these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331134442188?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&var=540346391389&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I put some insulating tape around any parts of the Baro board that were in danger of touching any metal on the RPi and just tucked into the box.

This flexibility allows me, when the time, comes to either mount it on a breakout board with an ARF or leave as is.

Hope this makes sense.

Cheers,
Colin

Hi Richard,

Are you extracting directly on to the SD Card?

If so, try extracting to a folder on your PC then copy the files across to the SD card.

I am a Windows 10 user, to date not had any problems.

I have successfully formatted and loaded 2 Kingston 8GB cards and 1 Sandisk 16GB card on a Dell with on board card reader/writer.

I'm sure I follow the instructions on Lee's 0.3 document...I may have taken shortcuts whilst doing so!

If requested, I will try the process tomorrow and document exactly how I do it, though I'm pretty sure I mostly follow the manual.

Hi Lee,

After reading the above last night, I thought I'd try the latest Pi 2 with the bits from my Pi B+.

Unfortunately, I was unable to get as far as Tom. Couldn't get the iPad to even 'see' the PAW hotspot!

I'll give it a try when I get home with a Nexus 7.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for the response. You're right I don't have the transceiver installed. Everything else looks as it did with the previous version.

Thanks,
Colin

Managed to load and run 20151107 all seems ok on SD.

Did get a lot of SER-TRX communication attempts with the last log message saying: SER-TRX: Configuration Failed.

Don't recall seeing that before...but then I usually only attach a monitor when updating the S/W.

My one took ages to get a lock on my window sill, when it eventually did, I managed to pick up 9 satellites!

Hi Lee,
In one of your posts on this thread, you mention a 'G-Mouse'. I was wondering if you could recommend a make, model, supplier for the device that  you have used that has looked promising?

Thanks,
Colin

General Discussion / RPi Hardware

Hi All,

First off, many thanks to Lee and others who have made this great project happen.

I was wondering if the latest board 'Raspberry Pi 2 Model B' could be used for the project or is 'Raspberry Pi B+' mandatory?

Many thanks for any feedback.

Cheers,
Colin
