OGN-R PilotAware / Re: OGN STATION TO VRS

Hi if you add a new receiver with the settings:

Format: Basestation

Address: IP address of the PAW

Port: 30003

Location: (add the location, if you have one configured under Receiver Locations).

That should do it.

I had the same issue.

But looking at the stats it looks like out had been fixed.

The first letters are the type of signal received:
O=Flarm
P=PilotAware
M=MLAT (provided by 360radar)
A=ADSB
a=Cap1391

The final letters are if received locally or remotely.
l=received locally
r=received remotely

There are possible combinations:
e.g.
OPA = aircraft is transmitting Flarm, PilotAware and ADSB.
PM = PilotAware and the Mode S is MLATd.
etc

A thought that I have been pondering for a few weeks.

An aircraft had a SE2 and also transmitted mode S.

If a PAW detected the mode S as bearingless but does not detect the CAP1391 and therefore requested info from a ground station would either:
a. The MLAT position be broadcast,
b. The Cap1391 derived position be broadcast.
or
c. The request be ignored as the target has a Cap1391 device that the PAW should be able to receive.

General Discussion / PilotAware screen recordings
« on: February 28, 2021, 12:17:06 pm »
Hi,

Here are a couple of screen recordings that I made on the 24th December, this was more the trial run to see if the screen recording method worked on the tablets. I discovered that the screen recording, using AZ Screen Recorder keeps the recording in Landscape if it starts in Landscape even if the screen is in Portrait.

The sky was quiet whilst I was flying with just a few other aircraft showing up, the whole flight from take-off to shutdown at the pumps is here, but the majority of the activity is in the first half, although some may show up whilst I was in circuit towards the end.

Whilst I was chilling around the hanger and as the local circuit was busier, I made another recording (within range of the Tatenhill OGN-R station). The first half of this video has a lot of ADS-B capable aircraft on it, the second half is mostly Mode-S retransmission. I was aware of another rental aircraft that was doing circuits that has a Mode S transponder fitted but did not show up.

The PilotAware is located centrally at the top of the windscreen and the Sky Echo is vertically on the right side of the windscreen.

The assertion in the first part of the article that ADSB is mandatory across the entirety of the USA in all aircraft is inaccurate.

ADS-B Out equipment is required to operate in the airspace defined in 14 CFR 91.225 [https://www.faa.gov/nextgen/programs/adsb/faq/#g10]. If you never fly into ADS-B-designated airspace, then there is no requirement to equip.

Basically around class A/B/C controlled airspace and class E above 10,000ft, although this is a bit of over simplification. You don't even need ADSB to fly IFR in the US as long as its outside the above rules airspace.

Sorry about the delay, here is the location of our mount:

At the top of the screen, just behind the sun visors.

Hi,

We have ours mounted at the top of the front windshield, although it tends to be in the aircraft permanently.  We have a wire tucked into the plastic around the windshield, and then into the lighter socket, although I prefer to run it off a battery so I can set up Skydemon before turning the master on.

I am down at the airfield on Saturday and can get some pictures then.

Hi Keith,

I upgraded my aerials earlier in the week.

I am suffering from them being in the loft at the moment as coverage out to the west is a bit weak (about 8-10km range) but I can see both FLARM and PAW in the Barton circuit which is 38-42km out to the north west.

I will see about getting them moved outside onto the roof, hopefully then I should be able to provide coverage from the south end of the Manchester Low Level corridor.

Hi all,

I have recently setup a new site in Congleton, to cover the gap over Cheshire.

At the moment I am just using the original Antenna provided for the PAW mounted internal to the attic. When I have worked out the best way, I will update with better antennas.
